Description

Process for the production of granules of homogeneous consistency from powdery substances
The subject of the invention is a process for the production of homogeneous granules from powdered substances such. B.

Alkaline earth hydroxide, alkaline earth carbonate, alkaline earth phosphate.

It is known that alkaline earth hydroxide can be brought into a spherical shape by adding water by bringing the hydrated lime together with sprayed water in a rotating drum or, better still, in several rotating drums connected in series. Here you can also granulate finely divided coal. However, this process has the disadvantage that the granulate is not obtained in a homogeneous form, but instead builds up in the shape of a cervical shell after the rolling process and the grains formed are unsatisfactory in terms of strength, especially during firing.

This is due to the fact that the granulate produced in this way consists of eyes, whose physical and chemical properties are different from one another. A major part of the known process is also that it does not permit the production of chlorinated materials of uniform grain size in a continuous process. Rather, balls of different diameters are formed. As a result, granules consisting of spheres of practically the same size can only be obtained by separating the undersized grain and returning it to the process again and again.

It is also already known to produce granulates from powdery substances in mixers that work on the countercurrent principle.

Here it is possible to achieve a homogeneous structure of the grains; however, the granulate obtained is consistently small and of fluctuating grain sizes. Here, too, it is necessary to separate the undersized grains and return them to the process in order to obtain products whose grains are more or less uniform in size.

The subject of the invention is a process which allows the production of granules, that is to say moldings with preferably nut size, with a homogeneous structure in a continuous process, with the achievement of products of desired uniform grain sizes.

According to the invention, the procedure is such that the powdery starting material to be granulated is first adjusted to a minimum moisture content of 7 / o, based on the dry material, and then subjected to the granulation process in a granulating drum.

Hydrated lime, such as the dry gasification of carbide, is processed, for example, in such a way that at least as much water is incorporated into the starting material that a compound with the composition Ca (OH) 2-H2O is formed. This corresponds to a fire resistance content of around 20 to 22%, based on dry lime hydra. t.

The invention is based on the finding that in the solidification process that takes place during the formation of granules from hydrate, in addition to surface forces, the formation of the aforementioned hydrate compound is significantly involved and a structurally homogeneous structure is not achieved if material is used in the granulation process that has the does not contain the aforementioned moisture content of 20 to 22 / o, based on dry hydrated lime.

For other powdery substances to be subjected to granulation, it is also necessary, as has been found, to initially set the powdery material to a certain minimum moisture content in a first working stage, the level of which can be determined by preliminary tests.

When using limestone, phosphate, fluorspar, magnesite, dolomite and the like in flour form, it was found that, in order to achieve homogeneous granules, the flour must be adjusted to a minimum moisture content before the granulation process, which in the case of application dune zone limestone , Phosphate or fluorspar is between 7 and 12 / o and depends on the respective composition of the powdery starting material.

Since heat cloning takes place during this binding process, it is advisable, at least at the beginning of the granulation process, to keep the initial moisture content of the material a few percent above the minimum values mentioned above.

The granulation of the material, which has been adjusted to a certain minimum moisture content, is expediently carried out in a standing drum, closed at the bottom, which to a certain extent represents a pot and which has a cylindrical or slightly conical shape. The granulating drum is arranged in an inclined position. The inclination range of the drum can be between 8 and a maximum of 50. The optimal range of inclination is generally between about 10 and 35. The diameter of the drum pot can generally be about 1 to 4 m (depending on the required output) and the length about 1 to 3 m.

The length of the drum is advantageously dimensioned in such a way that the bottom surface is covered with material up to a maximum of 2/3 of the surface at the inclination of the drum selected according to the desired grain size. The inner wall of the granulating drum is expediently lined with a material that, such as. B. VaA steel material, prevents unwanted approaches. Instead, a stripping device can also be provided in the bare upper part of the granulating drum. The number of revolutions of the drum can generally be adjusted so that the speed of rotation is about 0.4 to 1.5 m / sec, preferably 0.6 to 1.0 m / sec.

The wu granulating fine material is introduced in uneven layers on the inner wall or on the bottom of the rotary drum.

When using granulating drums of the type described above, it is possible to produce granules of practically the same grain size and homogeneous Beseliaffkeit with excellent strength properties in a running operation, which is not possible when using the previously common lying, open on both sides, too slightly inclined rotating drums after the end of the drum was.

When working with the drums described, small-grain granules initially form preferably on the drum base, which then continuously increase in size and thereby become harder and firmer.

Surprisingly, the balls that have reached the desired final size always float at the top and leave the granulating drum at the discharge end located at the top.

As already mentioned, additives can also be incorporated into the granules. As such, u. a. carbonaceous substances, such as B. ground coke or gas flame coal or baekende coal, also substances that provide a coking residue when burning, such. B. sulphite waste liquor or residues of petroleum distillation would be considered.

Additives are advantageously used, through which bitume, z. B. about 2 to 5 / o and more bitumen, are introduced into the granulate. Substances with a flat crystalline surface, such as B. Limestone powder, into consideration, which have the ability to favor the Kraekung of the carbonising Koh lenwasserstoffe with the formation of lustrous carbon when burning the granules. Finally, substances can also be added which, such as B. Fluorcaleium, are able to bring about or promote a sintering process during later heating.

Additions of the type mentioned above can be granulated individually or in groups. In general, it is advisable to add supplements such as B. Coal, to be mixed evenly with the flour before granulation.

The degree of fineness of the substances to be granulated is also important for obtaining grains with good strength properties. In general, it has proven to be two-fold that the majority of the material to be granulated has the degree of fineness of a powder that can be passed through a sieve with a mesh size of 0.060 to 0.088 mm. The remaining portion can then be coarser, even coarse-grained. It has u. a. has shown that it is possible to granulate up to 50 / o anthracite in grain size V in hydrated lime flour to achieve perfect products.

An important embodiment of the process relates to the production of structurally homogeneous granules which, however, have a different previous composition over the cross-section of the grain, e.g. B. contains a high proportion of carbon in the interior of the grains, while the outer jacket is practically free of carbon or vice versa. Such a tablet-like structure can be achieved by equipping the drum pot serving as a granulating device with two material inlets, one of which extends into the lower part of the drum pot, while the other ends closer to the discharge point of the drum. This second feed introduces the material that is intended for the formation of the edge zone (shell zone) of the granulate grain.

Due to the above-mentioned tablet-like structure, granulates with widely differing conductivity can be produced with otherwise the same concentration, e.g. B. of carbon, based on the total grain. This structure means great advantages both for the implementation of reduction processes in electric furnaces or sehacht furnaces as well as for the burning of the granulate itself. For these purposes it is often advantageous to clean the raw materials and the coal used before the granulation, that is, to separate off harmful impurities to subject what is known per se, such as sieving, sifting or special procedures, such as B. the convertol process for coal can be done.

The invention has u. a. Well proven for processing hydrated lime.

Here one is not dependent on the product of dry gasification. You can also work with wet lime and lime dust. Instead of water, milk of lime from carbide wet gasification can be used. If lime dust is also processed, it is advantageous to cool the granulating drum to temperatures below 70, for example. On the other hand, it is advisable to heat the material during the granulation, to be precise enough to remove the moisture that is above the minimum moisture mentioned above. For example, when using water as the granulating liquid, temperatures of up to about 100 can be heated.

This has a favorable effect on the stability of the granulate. If sulphite waste liquor is also used, a particularly favorable increase in the stability of the granulate is achieved through heating and drying.

Such granules made from hydrated lime can, as has been determined, be stored outdoors for a long time without a cover. The excellent stability of the granulate is retained. Even when it rains, the water content does not rise in a disruptive manner above the desired minimum moisture content. The granulate produced in this way is suitable for further processing, e.g. B. on quicklime, carbide and the like, particularly suitable. The strength of the granulate for hydrated lime is, for example, 10 to 15 kg / granulate grain (fragmentation pressure per granulate grain of 15 mm 0).

From dusty and / or lamb-like residues of hydrated lime and / or quicklime, you can produce non-corrosive, storable hydrated lime granules that no longer show the otherwise so annoying dust when scattered.

The invention is explained below using the attached drawing, for example:
Hydrated lime, which comes from dry gasification, for example, arrives from a bunker 1 via a cellular wheel 2 on a belt weigher 3 and from here is introduced into a mixer 5 after the amount of water dosed with the aid of a flow meter 4 has been added.

From here, the material is baked into the granulation pot 8 via a Schneeke 6. If you want to produce a tablet-like granulate, the core zone of which should consist of hydrated lime alone and the shell zone of a mixture of hydrated lime and fluorspar, the material intended for the shell zone is introduced through a shorter tendon 7. The finished granulate runs off the upper end of the drum 9. The drum is driven by a regulating gear 10.

The invention represents an improved production method for important intermediate products which are particularly suitable for further processing on quicklime, carbide and the like.
