(Fig. 7).

Device for measuring the performance of starters for internal combustion engines.
The invention relates to a device for measuring the power of starters for internal combustion engines, which is characterized in that it has an electromagnetic friction clutch with a disc non-rotatably connected to a shaft against this, on which a certain to establish the working connection with the shaft of a starter to be measured Ring gear is detachably arranged, which shaft drives a power generator connected to an electric tachometer, further that the magnet body carrying the magnet winding and forming part of the friction clutch is disposed on a sleeve with which a helical spring is in operative connection, such that after the frictional connection of a starter with the device,
switching on the magnet winding in a circuit with adjustable amperage and braking the starter to its nominal speed, the angle of rotation of the magnet body in relation to the housing of the device as a measure of the braking torque can be read on a scale, by which angle of rotation the performance of the starter can be determined.

The power measuring device has two supports serving as carriers of a cylindrical housing 12 on a base plate 11
13 (Fig. 1). There are also two parallel rails 14 which lie perpendicular to the vertical plane through the longitudinal axis of the housing 12 and are provided as guides for a frame which consists of two rails 15 which rest on the rails 14 and on the underside via two strips 16 are connected to each other. These strips 16 lie with their outer edges on those facing one another
Inner sides of the rails 14.
The one from the
Rails 15 and 16 existing frame can be moved in the direction of the vertical plane through the longitudinal axis of the housing 12 or away from this plane. It serves as a carrier of two supports 17, which are provided at their feet with two guide members 18 which rest on the inner sides of the rails 15 facing each other and can be moved along the latter individually and independently of each other. The supports 17 are used to put on a lassers to be measured, as is shown schematically in phantom in FIG.
There are known means, not shown, for fastening the starter on its sliding base, as well as clamping means for securing the supports on the frame and the latter on the base consisting of the rails as soon as the starter is in the desired position in relation to the Housing 12 or on the parts mentioned below arranged on the latter.
The cylindrical housing 12 surrounds a shaft 19 (FIG. 4) which, on its one end protruding beyond the housing, carries a disk 20, the latter being non-rotatable relative to the shaft 19. This disk 20 forms the armature of an electromagnetic clutch. The other remote shaft end carries the rotor of a power generator 22, which is connected to an electrical tachometer, not shown, under a hood 21 that can be lifted off. The shaft 19 is provided with two sleeves 23 which are accommodated within a sleeve 24. On the sleeve 24 two ball bearings 25 are arranged, which are inserted into the housing 12, the whole in such a way that both a rotation of the shaft 19 and a rotation of the sleeve 24 is possible, but the former is independent of the latter is.
The end of the sleeve 24 protruding beyond the housing 12 serves as a support for a body 26 with a splash and a magnetic winding 27 (FIG. 4). A ring 28 is drawn onto the flange of the body 26 and a disk 29 is drawn onto the latter, in whose side facing the disk 20 a circular brake lining 30 is partially embedded. The parts 26, 28 and 29 form the magnetic body of the electromagnetic coupling, the disc 20 being displaceable in the direction of the magnetic body and away from the latter.
This coupling is used to establish the work connection between the shaft 19 and the sleeve 24. A band 31 (FIG. 9) with a scale 31a is attached to the ring 28. Between the disk 20 and the closest sleeve 23 there is a helical spring 32 which tends to push the disk 20 with the shaft 19 to the left in FIG. 4 and thus to keep it at a certain minimum distance from the brake lining 30. A ring 33 made of an electrical insulating material is embedded in the visible surface of the flange of the body 26 and serves as a support for a slip ring 34.
One end of the magnetic swing 27 is connected to the slip ring 34, the other end to the body 26.
Next to the left-hand bearing 25 on the sleeve 24 there is a ring 35 connected to the latter with a notch 36 (FIG. 7). In addition to the ring 35, another ring 37 with a cam 38 (FIG. 6) lies loosely on the sleeve 24, which cam engages over the ring 35 and has a bore for receiving one end of a helical spring 39 (FIG. 4) .
Above the two rings 35 and 37 there is a segment 40 which is fastened to the inside of the housing 12 and acts as a stop. The rings 35 and 37 and the segment 40 are dimensioned such that the cam 36 can rotate under the segment 40, at a rotation of the sleeve 24 in a certain direction of rotation applies to the cam 38 of the ring 37 and rotates the latter over the sleeve 24. In contrast, the cam 38 of the ring 37 rests against one or the other end of the segment 40, which thus limits the angle of rotation of the ring 37.
In front of the right-hand ball bearing 25 in FIG. 4 there are also two analogous rings 35a and 37a and a segment 40a in the arrangement according to FIG. 5. The very helical spring 39 lies above a number of sleeves 41 which are arranged side by side and pushed onto the sleeve 24 with enough play to allow the diameter of the spring coils to be reduced when the spring is under tension.
The magnetic swing 27 is connected in parallel to a regulating resistor 42 (FIG. 10), which can be connected to a direct current source, for example to a storage battery, via a lens holder 43, so that when the switch is closed, a magnetizing current of variable intensity flows through the magnetic swing For the purpose of generating a variable magnetic force line field over the magnetic body and the Seheibe 20, so that the latter rests more or less strongly on the brake lining and thus a rotation of the magnet body with the sleeve 24 is caused,
which rotation the cup spring 39 opposes.
If the disc 20, as seen from the left in Fig. 4, is rotated clockwise and the magnetic swing 27 is switched on and thereby the operative connection between the disc 20 and the sleeve 24, via the brake lining 30, the disc 29, the ring 28 and the body 26 produced, the sleeve 24 causes a rotation of the rings 35 and 35a in the same direction of rotation. As a result, the cam 3G of the ring 35 tends to move away from the cam 38 on the ring 37, while the cam 36a of the ring 35a rests against the cam 38a of the ring 37a and rotates the latter in a clockwise direction.
As a result, the helical spring 39 is also rotated clockwise about its axis and the cam 38 is thus brought closer to the cam 36. After the ring 37 has been rotated through the angle a (FIG. 7), the cam 38 comes into contact with the segment 40 acting as a stop.
As the sleeve 24 continues to rotate, the Noeken 36 separates from the cam 38. Since the ring 35 as well as the ring 35a continues to rotate, the cam 38a is pushed further and the spring 39 is tensioned. curious; excited. Sleeve 24 stops rotating as soon as the counter-torque generated by the force of spring 39 has become equal to the torque with which sleeve 24 is rotated. The excitation current of the magnet 27 can be adjusted in such a way that the sleeve 24 comes to a standstill when the shaft 19 rotates at a speed which is in a certain fixed ratio to the nominal number of the starter.
If, on the other hand, the Seheibe 20, seen from the left in Fig. 4, rotates counterclockwise, and the Magnetwinder 27 is switched on, the I-sleeve 24 causes the rings 35 and 35a to rotate also in the counterclockwise direction.
The cam 36a of the ring 35a tends to move away from the cam 380. on the ring 37a, while the cam 36 of the ring 35 rests on the cam 38 of the ring 37 and trelit the latter counterclockwise. As a result, the very cage spring 39 is also rotated counterclockwise about its axis and the cam 38a thus follows the cam 36a until the cam 38a rests against the segment 40a. During the Wei th rotation of the sleeve 24, the cam 36a separates from the cam 38a.
Since the rings 35 and 35 continue to rotate, the cam 38 is pushed further and the spring 39 is tensioned until the sleeve 24 stops rotating when the counter-torque generated by the spring 39 has become equal to the torque that rotates the sleeve 24.
The performance of any starter can be measured using the device described as follows: Depending on the manufacturer, starters for internal combustion engines are built for different nominal speeds, which are known per se. The starter to be measured is fastened to its displaceable and lockable base and displaced until the gear wheel 44 on the starter shaft (shown in phantom in FIG. 1) meshes with a ring gear 45 attached to the disk 20.
The ring gear 45 is exchangeable and is expediently selected in such a way that there is a very specific known transmission ratio between the speed of the shaft 19 and that of the starter shaft.
The starter is then set in rotation and the electromagnetic friction clutch switched on. The magnetizing current of the magnetic coil 27 is regulated in such a way that the friction between the disc 20 and the brake lining 30 is sufficient to reduce the speed of the shaft 19 until the speed indicator connected to the generator 22 shows the nominal speed of the starter, its shaft Is in operative connection with the toothed ring 45 via the gear 44.
The determined angle of rotation of the magnet body in relation to the housing of the device is the measure of the braking torque, which can be read on the scale a 31 a. With the help of tables or graphical representations set up for use with the device, it is possible to determine the power of the starter corresponding to the reading of the braking torque at the given nominal speed of the latter, without having to do the math.
