Process for the production of a drive belt made of plastic and drive belt produced by this process. Practice has shown that plastic drive belts can be used in a wide range, as they are resistant to oil, water, chemicals, etc. The plastic drive belts known on the market are: made of monofilament bands, that is, they consist of one piece, which has the width and thickness required for the intended use.
These drive belts all have the disadvantage that material defects and weaknesses, because they can spread unhindered by a homogeneous cross-section, cause damage to the entire belt or a large part of it from each nucleus point. Rapid destruction can occur, for example. Tensile and bending stresses are caused, which are expressed in longitudinal and transverse cracks (tendency to splice).
The present invention has set itself the task of eliminating the disadvantages of previously known plastic drive belts. It relates to a method for producing a plastic drive belt, which is characterized by the fact that at least two strips made of plastic, at least one of which is a fabric strip consisting of plastic threads, are flat-sided with one another using pressure and heat.
The invention also relates to a plastic drive belt produced by this method, which in turn is characterized in that it consists of at least two tapes pressed together with the application of heat, at least one of which is a plastic fabric tape.
Naturally, the overall cross-section of a floating emulsion produced in this way is made up of many individual cross-sections according to the various fabric threads, which is of great importance as any splicing phenomena remain localized and do not spread over the entire cross-section.
To produce such a drive belt, one can proceed, for example, as follows: On a belt belt of a certain length, for example a wide and 1 mm thick.
Plastic, such as poly amide, polyvinyl chloride or the like, a fabric tape of the same length and width, the threads of which are made of the same material, are placed on the flat side, after the flat sides of the two tapes facing one another with a solvent such as formic acid , have been coated.
The two strips are then placed in a belt press equipped with a heating device and pressed together in this using heat. As a result, there is a fusion of the surface parts of the two bands and consequently an inseparable union of the latter. instead of. The belt tape pressed in this way is then provided with a friction or adhesive coating on one or both sides, which can be sprayed on, for example.
Rubber-latex, for example, is suitable as covering material: erdal. After this treatment, the belt band is cut lengthwise into, for example, 5 bands 6 cm wide. Thanks to the circumstance; The fact that the surface parts of the tape layers are fused together means that the individual tapes do not fray at their longitudinal edges when they are cut.
The two ends of the cut drive belts are then sharpened in a wedge shape, for example on a grinding wheel, and connected to one another in a manner similar to that shown above by a fusing operation to form an endless belt.
Instead of only two bands, about three bands could also be pressed together in the manner described above, with the outer bands being fabric bands or, if desired, only the middle band. But it could also be all tapes tissue tapes.
In any case, several plastic bands, at least one of which is a band made of plastic threads, are combined with one another in the manner described, using pressure and heat. Of course, you can also start from belts that have the desired belt width.
For the series production of drive belts of the type described above, however, the working method, according to which wider bands are then pressed together to form a belt that is then to be cut in the longitudinal direction, is more rational.
The warp and weft threads of the fabric tapes used are expediently different in terms of their cross section. For example, the warp threads, ie the longitudinal elements, can have a rectangular cross section and the weft threads, ie the transverse elements, have a round, preferably smaller, cross section.
The warp and weft threads could optionally be in cross section, but also quite angular.
