Process for the preparation of a disazo carbate. The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a disazo dye by condensation of cyanuric halide with amino compounds in a molecular ratio of 1 @:
3, and the process is characterized in that 1 mole of cyanuric halide is mixed with 1 mole of 2-aminonaphthalin-4,8-disulfonic acid and 2 moles of 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene-3'- carboxylic acid condensed.
The new dye forms a yellow-brown powder that dissolves in water with a yellow color and dyes the cellulose fiber in greenish yellow tones with very good neutral and alkaline etchability.
The cyanuric halide used is, for example, cyanuric bromide or, preferably, cyanuric chloride. The condensations are expediently carried out in an aqueous medium.
It is advisable to first carry out the condensation with the 2-aminonaphthalene 4,8-disulfonic acid. As is generally the case with condensations with cyanuric halides, both the pH value and the reaction temperature are expediently increased in each condensation stage compared to the previous one.
Example: 18.5 parts of cyanuric chloride finely suspended in water are mixed with a solution at 0 which contains 30.3 parts of 2-aminonaphthalene-4,8-disulfonic acid (dissolved as sodium salt) in 400 parts of water and 21 parts of sodium acetate dissolved and has a pH of 6.0 to 6.5. After a few minutes at 0, a clear solution is obtained; and free amine is no longer detectable.
Now a solution of 25.7 parts of 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene-3'-carboxylic acid and 28 parts of crystalline. Sodium acetate in 500 parts of water, which has been adjusted to a pH of at most 8.5 with dilute sodium hydroxide solution, is added, the mixture is heated to 30 to 35 with thorough stirring and stirred for a further 3 hours at this temperature. After the two solutions have been combined, the pH is about 5.5 and falls to a value between 4 and 5 in the course of the condensation.
It is now heated to 600 and the solution prepared from 25.7 parts of 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene-3'-carboxylic acid and 4 parts of sodium hydroxide in 500 parts of water (pH 8.4) was added and the mixture was stirred at 90 to 95 for 2 hours. The resulting ternary condensation product remains completely in solution, the final pg value with this procedure is about 5.5.
The solution is made slightly alkaline by adding sodium carbonate (pH about 8.0) and the condensation product is separated out and filtered by adding 10 parts of sodium chloride per 100 parts by volume of reaction mixture.
