TV set. It has already been proposed to provide in television reception apparatuses means allowing the adjustment of the amplitudes of the deviations of the beam producing the image, in order to obtain either a reproduction of the entire image, or an enlarged reproduction of a part. desired image. It goes without saying that for a given value of the mean intensity, the brightness of the image will be dimmed when the image is enlarged, while it would be desirable to maintain it or even increase it as the image is enlarged. as the magnification is increased.
For the observer, who during an enlargement of the image has the impression of approaching the scene, this weakening of the luminosity constitutes a disadvantage which moreover generally also has the effect that the image seems to have lost. contrast, that is to say that the degrees of clarity of the different parts vary only in a very small range.
The aim of the present invention is to eliminate said drawbacks. The device. television according to the invention is characterized by control means for varying the average intensity of the beam according to the degree of magnification. The apparatus may further comprise a means for varying the output amplitude of the sound signal circuit accompanying the image either to increase said output amplitude or to accentuate the low frequencies, this when the image is magnified.
In one embodiment of the invention, these control means comprise a device arranged to change the bias voltage applied to the modulator electrode of the cathode ray tube employed for image reproduction, while that in another embodiment, these means comprise a device arranged to modify the high voltage applied for example to the main anode of said tube. The latter form of brightness control, however, has the disadvantage of causing the aspect ratio to be reduced when the brightness is increased.
Said devices can be mechanically coupled with the means for adjusting the amplitudes of the deviations of the beam mentioned above, but it goes without saying that purely electrical methods could be used in place of a device with mechanical control. For example, one can derive from one of the deflection voltages a voltage controlling the gain of an amplifier or a bias voltage for the cathode ray tube, in such a way that it is proportional to the average amplitude of the. deviation voltage considered.
In the case where it is desired to increase the contrast of the enlarged image, this can be obtained by means of a device for adjusting the gain of an amplifier supplying the modulating voltages to the cathode ray tube, this device being coupled mechanically with said means for adjusting the amplitudes of the deviations of the beam.
