Process for the production of a continuous strip of corrugated cardboard with longitudinal grooves, installation for implementing this process and strip of corrugated cardboard with longitudinal grooves obtained by this process. The subject of the invention is a method of manufacturing a continuous strip of corrugated cardboard with longitudinal grooves.
This manufacturing process is characterized in that a strip of corrugated cardboard consisting of a strip is cut into elements -of uniform length. transverse grooves and a flat strip glued thereon in such a way that a corrugated selvage protrudes beyond the longitudinal edges of the flat strip, that these elements are aligned to form a continuous corrugated cardboard strip with longitudinal grooves and that these elements are brought together by interlocking the corrugated edge of each element in the undulations of the edge of its adjacent element.
The invention further comprises an installation for implementing this process. It is characterized in that it comprises, in series with a machine for the manufacture of a corrugated cardboard strip comprising a strip with dirty transverse grooves and a flat strip glued thereon such that a corrugated edge. protrudes from one of the longitudinal edges of the flat strip, a knife for cutting said strip of corrugated cardboard into elements of uniform length, a magazine for receiving these elements, a feeder device for extracting the elements from the magazine in the direction of the grooves, and im say positive to fit the wavy edge of each element in the undulations of its adjacent element.
The invention further comprises; a continuous strip of corrugated cardboard with longitudinal grooves, obtained by the above process and characterized in that it is formed of adjoining rectangular elements each consisting of a flat sheet glued to a corrugated sheet in such a way that corrugated edge exceeds the transverse edge of the flat sheet, said elements being assembled longitudinally by interlocking the edge of each element in the corrugations of the transverse edge of its adjacent element.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the installation which the invention comprises and of corrugated cardboard elements obtained during an implementation of the method which is the subject of of invention.

Figs. 3 and 4 are sections taken along lines 3-3 and 4-4 of fig. 2 respec tively.
Fig. 5 shows said form of execution of the installation which the invention comprises.
Fig. 6 shows on a larger scale part of FIG. 5. FIG. 7 shows in perspective a detail of said embodiment.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of part of FIG. 7.
In referring to fig. 1 to 4, according to a particular implementation of the method forming the object of the invention, a corrugated cardboard strip B is produced comprising a corrugated strip with transverse grooves and a flat strip bonded to the latter. The transverse corrugations c of this corrugated cardboard strip form -mie marginal edge d, the edge d 'of this edge protruding from one of the edges e of the flat cardboard f, over an appropriate distance.
Then, we cut this strip into elements B1, B, etc. of constant length Z and we assemble these elements Bl, B. ,, etc. end to end.
In fig. 1, the elements Bl, Bü are shown separated them -Luis from the others, but in reality these elements partially overlap, so that the marginal edge is dulated d of each element, such that B., </ U > is boxed under the corrugations of the adjacent edge g of the neighboring element Bl, so that the edges e and g of the flat boards f come into contact with each other.
In this way, a strip of corrugated cardboard with longitudinal grooves is obtained. rigid and the plane face of which is continuous over its entire length.
By virtue of the overlap of the undulations @: of the two elements, not only is the rigidity of the strip not affected by the discontinuity of the elements B, but this overlap even provides a reinforcement.
The illustrated embodiment of the installation that comprises the invention consists of a conventional TB construction machine for making a strip of corrugated cardboard with transverse grooves, followed by a knife, a magazine, a feeder device and a device for fitting the corrugated edge of each element into the corrugations of its adjacent element.
As can be seen schematically in FIG. 5, this machine comprises a roll of cardboard 1B feeding a pair of corrugated rolls 2B, 3B, cooperating with a gluing device 4B and a pressing cylinder 5B, serving to glue on the corrugated strip c the flat strip of cardboard f coming from a roller 6B to constitute the so-called single-sided strip B. Devices (not shown) are placed in front of the splines to moisten the paper as is known.
As explained above, the strip c is wider than the strip f, so as to constitute on one side of the strip B a wavy edge d.
This strip B then passes through a conveyor belt 11 followed by a knife with rotating blades 12, which cuts it into elements B1, B., etc., then through an accelerator conveyor 13 whose linear speed is greater than that of the transporter 11, in order to increase the interval between the supply of successive elements B., B., to the following devices. A device 7.4 for rotating said elements B1, Bz by 90 and an ejector conveyor 15 brings the elements into a magazine 16,
above a feeder device 17. This joins the elements end to end, producing the overlap of the selvedge cl of one element with the undulations of the following element (see fig. 1), as will be described in more detail below. A so-called single-sided corrugated cardboard strip C is thus obtained. with longitudinal grooves, rigid over its entire length.
It will be noted that the grooves of the band B are perpendicular and the grooves of the band C parallel to the plane of FIG. 5, which requires either to have the TB machine perpendicular to the plane of FIG. 5, the output of the band C being parallel to this plane, or to have the machine TB in the plane of FIG. 5, but by interposing somewhere on the path of the elements B a positive device rotating these elements by 90.
The rotation of 90 of the elements B is obtained with the aid of the device shown in FIG. 6. At the output of the conveyor-accelerator 13 is a selector 19, that is to say a shelf oscillating around a horizontal axis in synchronism with the supply of elements B, so as to introduce these in one or the other of the two sections 20 and 21 constituting the device 14.
Section 20 comprises two feed rollers 22 and a turntable 23 above which a transport belt 24 moves, and section 21 comprises three feed rollers 25 and a plate 26 surmounted by a belt. transport 27. The plates 23 and 26 are driven by a native alter movement of vertical translation and a discontinuous movement of rotation. At the outlet of the device 14 is disposed the ejector conveyor 15 which supplies the magazine 16.
When the selector 19 occupies the position shown in solid lines, it guides the element B delivered by the conveyor 13 on the plate 23. The element B being placed on this plate, the latter turns 90, then rises. by bringing the element B into contact with the carrier conveyor 20, which directs it between the belts 28 and 29 of the ejector 15. During this time, the selector 19 has come to the position shown in dotted lines and has guided the element B on the plate 26, which turns 90 and then rises bringing the element B in contact with the conveyor 27, which directs it between the belts 30 and 31 of the ejector 15. In the meantime, the plate 23 has returned to its initial position to receive a new element B, and so on.
If necessary, the device 14 could comprise more than two plates, the selector having a corresponding number of positions. It could also be simple, in which case the selector would be useless.
The feeder device 17 shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 comprises, below the store 16, a fixed table (not shown) in the recesses of which move ehaines 32, 33 driven by a translational movement.
These chains carry, at distances corresponding to the length of the elements B, reduced to the length of the planned overlap, that is to say to the width d of the selvedge, rules 34 projecting from a slight thickness less than that of an element B.
In front of the feeder device, that is to say on the side of the outlet of the elements B, are fixed two adjustable pins 35, leaving between their lower end and the table of the feeder device only a slightly greater thickness. to that of an element B.
The elements B being stacked on the table of the feeder device, the selvedge d towards the rear, each rule 34, in its translational movement, drives the lower element B. It drives only this one, the others being held by adjustable pins 35.
The next element is driven in turn, while the first element is still in the feeder device over a length equal to the overlap d of two elements. This movement continues without interruption.
At the outlet of the feeder device is placed a rubberized roller 36, adjustable in height and whose plane is disposed obliquely with respect to the direction of advance of the elements B at the outlet of the feeder device, this roller being intended to come into contact with the elements B whenever the interlocking of the undulations of two successive elements has not been obtained on the first try. They then cause a slight. lateral sliding of the upper element until the corrugations present themselves correctly for the interlocking. .
