Safety lock. (.'invention relates to a lock, iii-W, of the type of those comprising a -cy linder adjusted and capable of turning in a fixed sheath, and at least one group of two locking bolts arranged and guided trans versally in said cylinder, so (if they are engaged t, and tend to to keep themselves engaged.:
under the action of rap pel springs. in a notch of said sheath, to lock the cylinder by preventing it from rotating on itself, the locks being actuated and released from said notch by means of a profiled key that or introduced through an opening in the cylinder.
This lock is characterized, according to the invention, in that it comprises two series (the locking bolts arranged in parallel, on either side of the cylinder opening providing passage to the key, the locks of the 'one (said series and those of the other series forming groups with two parallel bolts, intended to cooperate with a key formed of two profiled key elements, rigidly assembled with each other, for example by rivets, of so that these elements cooperate exclusively,
the first with one of the blocking locks and the second with the other blocking lock of each group of locks.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.

Fig. 10 is a partial orthogonal projection of the fi-. 9.
Fig. It shows in front elevation, a group of two blocking bolts similar to the unlocked position, when the. key is assumed to be engaged in the lock.
The fi- ,. 12 shows in front elevation, a group of dissimilar locking bolts in the unlocked position, when the key is assumed to be engaged. In the lock.
In a fixed cylindrical sheath 13, mu nie. a closure plate 14 having a central opening 15, is fitted a rotating cylinder 16 comprising an inlet plate 17 and an end sleeve 18. These plate and sleeve are rigidly assembled with the cylinder 16 by means of two rods - rivets 19, so that -this aggregate 16, 17, 18 can rotate on itself in the sheath 13, that is to say around the axis of said cylinder, as long as the latter is not locked by locking bolts, and control, in a known manner, the bolt (not shown) of the lock,
by means of the end sleeve 18. Between this sleeve and the plate 14 is interposed a debate washer 20. To rotate the -cylinder 16, the plate 17 and the sleeve 18 in the sheath 13, a profiled-key is provided 21 which is introduced into the rotating cylinder 16 by a opening 22 of the inlet plate 17 provided with a collar 17 'which is fitted in a bore 13' of the front face of the sheath 13.
This bore and the flange 17 'each have a notch to form a notch 23 at a lug 24 of the key, so that the latter can not be inserted into the lock or be withdrawn therefrom, as long as said notches coincide. one with the other and that, therefore, the passage 23 is not free.- The coincidence of the two notches linking the passage to the lug 24 determines the initial angular position of the rotating cylinder 16, position where this last is locked in the duct by the. lock locks, when the key is removed from the lock.
If the key 21 is inserted into the lock and pushed fully, its lug 24 comes to be placed in an annular guide recess 25 of the sheath 13 and can move there freely when the key is rotated to actuate. the rotating cylinder 16. This annular release 25 retains the lug 24 and hence the key in the lock as long as the rotating cylinder is not returned to its initial angular position, where the lug 4 is located. placed opposite passage 23.
The rotating cylinder 16 comprises, in the example shown, five cylinder elements constituting as many cages. identical. 26. These cages are contiguously and rigidly assembled with each other by means of the rivet rods 19. They are all pierced, in the middle, with an opening 27 for the passage of the key. Each cage is formed of a plate 28 and a bridge 29 riveted together by feet 30; the cages are also assembled together by feet. In addition, the plates 28 and bridges 29 are pierced with two holes 31 for the passage of the rod-rivets 19.
In each cage is mounted transversely a group of two locking bolts 32, 33 arranged and movable parallel, on either side of the opening 27 of the cage intended for the passage of the key. Each lock is fitted in a guide 34 of the cage, has a longitudinal recess 35 and a lateral beak 36. A return spring 37 is housed in each of said recesses 35. This spring has an initial tension and is supported, on the one hand , on a fixed lug 38 which, coming from the plate 28, extends into the recess 35 and, on the other hand, on the bottom of this recess.
In the extension of each end of the bolts 32 and 33 is formed, in the fixed sheath 13, a groove 39, respectively 40, 41 -and 42. These grooves extend over the entire length of the rotating cylinder 13 el, form keepers for the blo cage locks while allowing. the latter to effect a back and forth movement in the lock.
The return springs 37 always tend to push the bolts 32 and 33 from top to bottom (fig, 1 and 3), so as to engage and keep them engaged in the keeps 40, respectively 42 to lock or block the rotating cylinder 16 in the fixed duct 13.
However, when the profiled key 21 is introduced into the lock, the jaws 36 of the locks cooperate with the profiled part of the key, which part communicates to the locks a back and forth movement as and when qtae the key advances in its passage. This anointing of the bolts is possible thanks to @@ îchcs 39, 40, 41 and 42 which provide passage -tux ends of the bolts.
However, the outline of the profiled part of the key is: established (the way that the locking bolts: 32, 33 of the lock are released from the keeps 39, 40, 41, 42 of the fixed sheath 13, c 'that is to say that none of them exceeds the periphery of the rotating cylinder 16, when the key has reached the bottom of the lock. From then on. this rotating cylinder is unlocked and it can be rotated in its sheath using the key to activate the lock bolt.
The key 21 is formed of two elements of ell, profiles rigidly coupled to each other, preferably by two adjacent blades 21 ', 21 ", profiled on one of their longitudinal edges and assembled together. with the other by rivets 43.
The locking bolts 32, 33 of the lock are therefore arranged in parallel in series of five, on either side of the opening of the cylinder 27, allowing passage to the key, the bolts of one of said series and those of the other series forming groups with two parallel bolts, each of these groups of bolts being mounted in a cage constituting the rotating cylinder, as described above, a position which emerges more particularly from the examination of fig. 1,? and 9 to 1.2.
It follows that the element (blade) key _'l '.coopère exclusively, by its. profi- Pc part, with the beak 36 of the lock 32, while the key element 21 "cooperates exclusively, by its profiled part, with the beak 36 of the worm 33 of each group of two locks.
To be able to remove the key from the lock, its lug 24 must be placed behind the passage. corresponding- 23 provided @i the plate 17 and the sheath 13, because, in this angular position of the lug and said rotating cylinder, the locking bolts are all strictly oriented towards the respective keeps 39, 40, 41 and 42 of the sheath,
so that it # , can move freely (the back and forth as the key is removed, and then engage as soon as the key is removed. 'they are no longer in contact with the profiled part of the latter, in the respective keeps 40 and 42 of the fixed sheath, under the action of their return spring 37, in order to block the turning cylinder and hence locking the lock.
In: case the key and the locks were not strictly compliant, the rotating cylinder 13 would remain blocked when the key -is: inserted in the lock, by the fact that at least one of the locking bolts would be kept in position lock. The key could be profiled on one or the other of its longitudinal edges or even on its two longitudinal edges, depending on the shape and arrangement of the locking bolts.
In the latter case, the constituent blades of the key would each be provided with a profiled longitudinal edge, the profiled edge of one of the blades being opposite to the profiled edge of the other blade, an arrangement which involves an arrangement of blocking locks according to which the two locks of one, several, or all the groups of locks would be forced, for example, to move, during the. locking stroke, in the opposite direction, one relative to the other, under the action of their respective return spring. The key, made up of two coupled elements (riveted, welded, etc.), offers the possibility of combining a large number of different locks.
Such a key is difficult to. imitate, because its two constituent elements must be judiciously matched with each other. On the other hand, the manufacture of profiled key elements is relatively economical, since these blades, having little thickness, can be obtained by stamping. The same is true of the locking bolts which, in steel and tempered, are only cutouts obtained economically using stamps.
