Filtration system with automatic cleaning.
The present invention relates to a filtration installation comprising at least one enclosure provided with a bed of filtering sand and the upper part of which is supplied with raw water, while the lower part, located under the bed of sand, is connected to an evacuation channel for filtered water, and in which the cleaning of the sand is caused automatically by the rise in the level of the raw water in the upper part of the enclosure, this cleaning being carried out by water filtered and compressed air delivered in counter-current through the sand bed, a siphon being provided to evacuate the washing water out of the upper part of the enclosure and to maintain the level of the water in the latter at a minimum level throughout the washing operation,
a device being provided ensuring throughout the duration of the washing operation a depression in said siphon, this device starting and stopping automatically at the start and at the end of the sand bed cleaning operation.
The installation, object of the invention, is characterized in that it is arranged so that the level of the water in the filtered water discharge channel is higher than the level of the water. in the upper part of the enclosure during washing, the latter level being determined by the level of the orifice of the suction branch of the siphon plunging into the upper part of the enclosure. so that filtered water from the discharge channel is automatically back-flowed through the sand during the cleaning operation.
The appended drawing represents, schematically, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan of the installation which comprises two juxtaposed filters.
Fig. 2 is a section along the line II-II.
With reference to fig. 1 and 2, the installation comprises two juxtaposed containers 100 and 101, containing filtering sand 2 resting on a permeable floor 4 provided, for example, with strainers 103 allowing water to pass through, but retaining the sand. Between the permeable floor 4 and the bottom of each container is formed a chamber 14 of filtered water, into which enters a collection pipe 17 as well as a pipe 25 for the supply of pressurized air.
The pipe 17 of each of the filters leads to a collector or discharge channel 104 of filtered water common to the two filters, and provided with a flow pipe 21 forming an overflow and ensuring a constant level of drainage. This collector is arranged with respect to the containers 100 and 101 so that the level 22 of the water it contains is always higher than the minimum level 105 provided in each container.
This minimum level is determined by an internal partition 106 creating in each container a chamber 107 open upwards and in which ends an arm 29 of a siphon 27 for evacuating muddy water, the other arm ending in a basin. 35 overflow from which a pipe 36 goes to the sewer.
The suction of the siphon ensures that the minimum level 105 is maintained during the washing periods.
The elbow 28 of the siphon 27 is arranged so as to correspond to the upper water level 108 provided in each container. When this level is reached, a float switch 33 causes in a known manner the actuation of an air compressor and a vacuum pump (not shown), the suction line of the latter leading to line 109. connected to the bend of the siphon 27 by an electrically controlled valve 110, the opening of which is caused by the contactor 33. This device causes the automatic priming of the siphon, when the upper water level is reached in one of the containers and a washing operation becomes necessary.
The pressurized air coming from the compressor is sent into the line 25 through a distribution valve 111 controlled electrically by the contactor 33 initiating the washing operation, the duration of which is set by a timer. This valve makes it possible to direct the air towards the chamber 14 of the container 100 or 101, in which the washing operation takes place.
The raw water arrives in these two receptacles by a pipe 1 controlled in each of them by a butterfly 112, actuated by a float 113, which opens the pipe, as soon as the water level in the pipe is reached. container reaches level 22 in the collector, and its closing during the washing operation, as soon as the water has fallen below this level.
It will be understood that as soon as the siphon 27 is primed, the level of the water in the container 100 or 101 drops to below the level 22 in the collector 104. At the same time as the priming of the siphon takes place. , compressed air is sent into the chamber 14 at a pressure such that as soon as the water level in the filter reaches the level 22 of the collector, it can cross the sand 2 in counter-current.
As soon as the water level in the container has dropped below level 22 in the collector 104, the water contained in the latter crosses the filter in countercurrent at the same time as the pressurized air 'and causes the washing the filter, the muddy water being evacuated as it goes through the siphon 27. The installation is arranged so that washing can never take place simultaneously in the two filters.
It is also possible to provide an installation such as that described, but without the collector 104.
In this case, between the two chambers 14 of the two containers 100 and 101, communication openings 114 are provided, as indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 2.
The single discharge pipe for the two receptacles is then connected to an drainage channel leading to the network. This channel is located at a level corresponding to at least level 22 of the collector 104.
In this case, during a washing operation in one of the filters, the washing water passes directly from the chamber 14 of the neighboring filter through the openings 114.
Provision can also be made for the chamber 14 and the collector 104 to be connected directly to one another. In this case, the tubing 17 does not exist.
It is clear that the installation could have only one filter or have more than two.
In the case of a single filter, it is necessary to provide a supply of washing water to the collector during the washing periods.
The filters of the same installation are not necessarily juxtaposed.
