Equipment for jump wave protection in electrical systems. In the past, attempts have been made to protect transformers and machines against jump waves, that is, against overvoltage stress on neighboring coils and windings through upstream choke coils. These reactors were built into the cable run. It has now been shown that such a protective arrangement is not effective or even harmful if the choke coils do not have a sufficient inductance.
This phenomenon is due to the fact that the reactors with the input capacity of the transformers BEZW. Machines form an oscillating circuit, which can rather get into resonance and thereby increase the stress on the winding to be protected instead of reducing it. The inductance of the choke coils would have to be selected to be very large in order to achieve the desired effect, but this is associated with considerable costs.
The present invention avoids these disadvantages and achieves the desired reduction in the stress on jumping waves. This is based on the fact that dangerous surge waves in systems are only generated by flashovers in the vicinity of transformers or machines. The same can occur either through flashovers of lines to earth or in the case of direct lightning strikes in masts by flashovers from the mast to the cable. The voltage changes in the lines caused by these flashovers are very rapid and the corresponding jump waves are very steep.
The invention now relates to devices for flattening jump waves occurring within a part of the plant to be protected, so as to reduce the stress in the windings. The reduction in the steepness of these jump waves in plants with parallel to the one to be protected. According to the invention, a spark gap arranged as part of the system is brought about by the fact that a choke coil is connected in series with the spark gap and is dimensioned such that the jump wave that occurs flattens out when the spark gap occurs. becomes.
In switchgear, which are provided with one or more coarse protection spark gaps, so-called coordination spark gaps, it is possible to always let the flashovers take place via choke coils by connecting to the coordination spark gap, which is known to have a smaller flashover voltage than all other parts of the system, such a reactor is switched in series. These spark gaps to be equipped with inductors are provided both between the individual conductors and between them and earth.
Unavoidable flashovers then only occur indirectly at the coordination spark gaps lying in series with inductors.
The different effect of the earlier and the newly proposed arrangement is that in the former, a choke coil in the cable run with the input capacitance of the transformers or machines forms an oscillatory system, which increases the stress on the winding to be protected when it resonates with the steeply striking jump wave. If, however, a flashover according to the invention occurs via a choke coil, the process is aperiodic. If this discharge takes place slowly enough, the protective winding can no longer vibrate.
With the proposed arrangement, the stress on the windings to be protected, in contrast to the known ones, cannot be increased, but only decreased, if the inductance of the choke coil is small.
The choke coils, which are connected in series with the coordination spark gap, do not have to be dimensioned for the operating current like those connected in the cable run, but only have the desired inductivity and can carry the brief lightning currents. They therefore become considerably cheaper than those, which is another advantage of the present invention.
For the purpose of damping the surge waves, it is advantageous to design the spark gap in series with the choke as a surge arrester, which can contain, for example, a quenching spark gap and a voltage-dependent resistor of known properties.
