Electric starting device on vehicles with internal combustion engines. The invention relates to an elec trical starting device on Kraftfahrzeu conditions with internal combustion engines and in which, in addition to an electrical power source, other mechanical power sources such. B. Compressed air for braking purposes are available. The purpose of the invention is to create the cheapest possible starting device for vehicles equipped in this way.
The electric starters have the disadvantage that the force required to engage the pinion is so great that electromagnets of considerable size are required for electromagnetic engagement. Above all, the long travel of the pinion has a very negative effect. In order to avoid this disadvantage, single-track systems have been developed in which only part of the pinion path is done by electromagnetic displacement and the rest by screwing. These constructions give a complicated construction in which the meshing of the pinion does not even take place safely under all circumstances.
With pure compressed air starting systems, a considerable supply of compressed air is necessary to crank the engine; on the other hand, because of the need for light, you cannot do without an electrical system. Vehicles that have a compressed air system only for braking purposes, this system would not be sufficient for starting; that means that you need an electrical system after all. A before partial solution of the problem is achieved according to the invention in that the engagement of the drive member is brought about by the non-electrical power source. It can be achieved by using an already existing power source, e.g. B.
a gas or liquid pressure, the starter system is significantly simplified and ver cheaper because the long stroke for the meshing of the pinion does not play a role as with the electromagnet.
The drawing shows three exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention. It shows Fig. 1 a part of the starting device partially in section, Fig. a second embodiment of the device, Fig. 3 is a third embodiment partially in section, Fig. 4 is the starting device attached to an internal combustion engine.
The electric starter motor shown in Fig. 1 a has a on the armature shaft l) displaceable pinion c, which is coupled to the shaft via an overrunning clutch d and by a fork lever e. which engages in a sleeve f of the pinion drive can be moved ver. To move the lever is a compressed air cylinder g with a piston la. intended. The piston is connected to the lever by a rod i.
On the rod, a contact bridge k is spring-mounted against a stop rri and interacts with a contact pair i attached to the compressed air cylinder. One of the contacts is connected to a battery o while the other is connected to the starter engine.
The compressed air cylinder had a supply line p which can be connected to a compressed air supply line r via a two-way valve q . The cock is designed so that in one position it connects the supply line p with the feed line r, while in the other position the supply line p is connected to the outside air. In your cylinder there is a compression spring s between the piston and the cylinder base, and an air outlet t is provided in the cylinder wall.
The compressed air feed line is connected to a compressed air tank u, which is fed by an air compressor v. The cock q can be operated by a Bowden cable iv from the dashboard of the vehicle who the.
A return spring -g is attached to the Bowden cable foot lever x, by means of which the tap, after the foot lever is released, is brought into the position in which the cylinder g is finely connected to the outside air. In addition to the cylinder g, other consumers are also connected to the compressed air tank u.
The device works in the following way: To start the internal combustion engine, the driver depresses the foot lever x. This moves the cock q so far that the line r is connected to the line p . The compressed air in the container u flows into the cylinder g and pushes. the piston h back against the pressure of the spring s in the cylinder. The piston swivels. while the lever e, which engages the pinion c in the motor ring gear, and closes. the starter switch k, ri. After starting the engine, the driver lets go of the foot lever, which brings the tap into the rest position shown, in which the cylinder is connected to the outside air via line p.
The spring s drives the piston back into its rest position, the pinion c being disengaged.
In the embodiment described, the vehicle is provided with an air compressor and a compressed air tank. Instead of this power source, others can also be used if they are provided in the vehicle. Liquid pressure, for example, can also be considered as such. The compressed air has the advantage that leakage losses during starting play a subordinate role if they are not too large, while leakage losses are not acceptable when using 01, because the supply of 01 is limited.
In the embodiment of FIG. 2, a plurality of pressure cylinders 11 are installed in the starter motor housing 10, and that these cylinders are cast on the bearing plate 12. Pistons 13 are located in the cylinders and act on a plate 15 connected to the pinion 14. In the present example it is assumed that the pistons are controlled by pressurized gas. On the piston respectively. the plate engages a spring 16, which is supported against a stop 17 and which has the purpose of bringing the pinion and the piston into the rest position shown after starting.
The cylinders are connected to one another by a line so that they are all fed with compressed gas at the same time. The plate 15 has a conical edge 18 which is used to actuate a switch 19 built into the bearing plate when the pinion is engaged. The switch 19 is connected to the excitation coil .20 of the main starter switch 21.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 3 differs from that according to FIG. 1 in that a compressed gas valve 30 is opened by the electromagnet 31 of the main starter switch 32. For this purpose the movable armature 33 of the elec tromagnet is connected to the valve 30 in such a way that the valve is opened when the switch is closed and the compressed gases can flow into the cylinder 35.
In order to avoid the main switch of the starter motor being closed before the starter pinion has meshed, a pawl 36 is provided in the path of the switch armature, which means that the armature 33 of the switch initially only controls the starter motor via a Wi the stand 37 can connect to the battery 38. The pawl has a cam 39 on which the engagement linkage 40 runs when the pinion is fully engaged. As soon as the pawl is raised, the armature 33 can move into its end position. To control the switch 32, 33, a switch 41 is seen before.
