Process for the production of clad sheets, plates and the like. The plating of sheets, plates and the like is often done in such a way that the base material consisting of iron or another base metal and the more noble metal, one or both sides of the plating supports their edges are encompassed and held together by a tightly enclosing frame with an approximately U-shaped cross section.
In order to prevent temperature loss, in particular of the cladding layers, on the way from the furnace to the rolling mill, it has already been proposed to place heat layers on the cladding layers and design and arrange the frame so that it also includes the protective layers.
When passing through the rolling mill, these protective covers were rolled along with the result that, although the cladding layers were welded to the iron blank, the thermal insulation layers were often also welded to the cladding package and only then removed again by pickling, planing or the like had to. This is time-consuming and costly, because once the heat protection plates have to be renewed again and again and plating sheets of greater strength must be used accordingly. The loss of material is therefore significant.
To avoid the aforementioned disadvantages, according to the invention, the plating layers of the workpiece package are covered with heat protection layers at the latest when it leaves the furnace, which are removed when the workpiece package is introduced into the rolling mill or the press or shortly before. With these protective conditions, Temperaturver losses of the work piece package, in particular the plating conditions on the way from the furnace to the rolling mill, are avoided or at least reduced to a minimum.
The penetration of oxidizing gases between the plating layer and the base material can be prevented, for example, by appropriately designing the edges of the heat protection layer, which cover the sides of the work piece package. If the package of workpieces is provided with the U-shaped surrounding frame, the heat protection cover expediently rests on the surrounding frame without being held in any way by the latter.
By placing the heat protection layer on the surrounding frame, an air cushion is created between the cladding layer and the heat protection layer, which prevents the two layers from welding together, so that the heat protection layer can be removed and reused without difficulty.
A further advantage of the removable support of the heat protection layer on the plating layer or on the surrounding frame is that the plating layer can be kept relatively thin since the heat protection layer does not go through the rolling mill or the like. The rollers are in direct contact with the plating surfaces.
