Process for the preparation of 4-phenylethyl-dibydroresorcinol. According to the process of the main patent, rosorcinol can be converted into dibydroresorcinol with an approximately quantitative yield by acting on a solution prepared from resorcinol and at least one equivalent of a basic compound in the presence of a hydrogen catalyst.)
t and the hydrogenation product acidifies.
It has now been found that this process is also particularly suitable for converting 4-alkyl- and 4-Ar-all, ylresorcinen into the corresponding cyclohexanediones. Metals of group B. of the periodic table can be used as catalysts.
This way is to represent the 4-Alhyl- respectively. Aralkyl derivatives are particularly valuable, the 4-alkyl derivatives of which are determined according to the generally applicable method of Clempensen (reports of the German Chemical Society 46 [1913] s.
1837), while the synthetic processes known up to now mainly lead to those cyclohexaiidione derivatives which have the substituents in the 5-position (Liebigs Annalen der Chemie vol. 294, 1897) s . 255-56).
According to the method of German patent 57L972, pheriols can also be catalytically hydrogenated in the form of their alkali metal salts, but 6 hydrogen atoms are taken up and alkali-insoluble cyclohexanols are formed. If, in addition to the pbenolic hydroxyl, there is a second substituent in the nucleus, the formation of the trans isomeric hexahydro- phenols is favored.
In the hydrogenation of the alkyl resorcinols in the presence of strongly alkali-reacting compounds, alkali-soluble cyclohexanediones are formed, the reaction being completely terminated after the uptake of only two hydrogen atoms. In addition, the required temperature is at least 100 lower than in the mentioned patent.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of 4-phenyl-ätlryl-dihydroresorciri, which is characterized in that a solution prepared from 2,4-dioxydiphenylethane and at least one equivalent of a strongly basic compound is present in the presence of a catalyst Lets hydrogen act and acidifies the hydrogenation product.
4-Phenyläthyldihydroresorcin forms colorless crystals with a melting point of 126 0, is difficult in water, is easily soluble in sodium carbonate solution and in organic solvents. The calcium salt is sparingly soluble in water. The new connection is very responsive. It serves as an intermediate for the production of pharmaceutical preparations Example: 214 parts by weight of 2,9 @ -Dioxy-dipheiiyläthau (4-Phei) ylätbylresorcin) and 40 parts by weight of sodium hydrogen are dissolved in 700 parts by weight of water.
After adding 5 parts by weight of nickel catalyst, which has been produced from a mixture of equal parts of nickel carbonate and kieselguhr by treating finite hydrogen at 500 ° for 7 hours, it is hydrogenated in a pressure vessel with hydrogen at 15 atmospheres at 800 As soon as the uptake of hydrogen has ended, the still hot solution is filtered off from the catalyst and precipitated with dilute acid. The yield is 950 ° of theory.
