Glow discharge tube for signaling purposes. The previously known glow lamps and glow lamp circuits such. B. in switching centers, have the part after that the sensitivity of the glow lamps fluctuates within wide limits. There are many reasons for this fluctuation; Some of these fluctuations are due to changes in the tube itself, and some are due to the fact that external influences act on the tube. Among the latter, the photoelectric influence of daylight should be emphasized.
It has also been found that when the gas discharge tube is used for optical signal transmission outdoors, it is not possible to correctly identify whether the lamp has ignited or not in strong sunlight.
To remedy the deficiencies described above, the cathode surface of the glow discharge tube according to the invention is arranged at such an angle to the foreign light entering through a diaphragm that the reflected light falls on the blackened inner wall of the tube. Figs. 1 and 2 show an exemplary embodiment of the invention. In the discharge vessel 1, the electrodes are mounted on a pinch foot 2. The cathode 3 has the shape of a cone jacket BEZW. of a truncated cone with an acute angle up to 90.
The surface 4 of the cathode is covered with an electropositive substance, for example potassium, sodium, rubidium, cesium, barium, strontium or the like to reduce the cathode case. The anode 5, which also acts as a diaphragm, is formed out as a circular ring. The feed 6 to the anode 5 takes place through a glass tube 7 fused into the foot, which method 3 is passed through an opening of the Ka. The cylindrical part of the vessel is blackened.
In order to ensure that light that actually strikes the neon lamp from outside is completely absorbed inside and not reflected, which would severely impair the visibility of the discharge, special conditions for the dimensioning of the cathode and anode must be observed. These conditions are shown in FIG.
If the diameter of the circular anode is chosen to be the same as the diameter of the cut surface of the double cone at the location of the aperture, the following two basic possibilities exist for the impact of light rays Case I. A ray that with the axis of symmetry gB forms an angle α C 45 0, will in any case not reach the outside, but rather is reflected to the side and absorbed in the black envelope of the cylindrical part of the discharge vessel.
Case II. A beam II incident at an angle greater than 45 ° will no longer hit the cathode at all, but will be absorbed directly when it hits the blackened glass wall TV.
In order to prevent the photoelectric influence of the radiation penetrating from the outside, in the exemplary embodiment the front part of the housing wall of the glow tube itself is made into a filter by coloring or by coating a colored varnish, which absorbs the photoelectric active radiation and only that with the tube Generated long-wave radiation can escape from the tube. The filter color is chosen so that wavelengths below 550 pss have transparency 0 and wavelengths above 550 pss have transparency 1. Instead of coloring the balloon, you can of course also put a special filter in front of the glow tube.
A support for the filter effect can also be achieved in that in the tube itself little light, electrically effective radiation is generated. It is therefore advantageous to use gases whose maximum light emission is above the range of 550 ssu. For this reason, the vessel is filled with neon, for example.
To neutralize wall charges which influence the ignition voltage, it has proven to be useful to add 3-30% helium to the gas filling.
