Non-skid rubber tires for vehicles and process for their manufacture. The present invention relates to a non-skid rubber tire for vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, which prevents the vehicles from skidding on slippery road surfaces.
For the production of such tires, it has already been proposed to embed hard bodies in the rubber. Such deposits, which have been incorporated into the vulcanization of the rubber compound, have generally not fulfilled the desired purpose and, moreover, caused the tread to wear out too quickly.
The inserts, which consist of hard bodies, migrate over time in the rubber mass as a result of the movement of the wheels. As a result, the inserts can also get to the tissue, rub against it and destroy it.
The present invention relates to a non-skid rubber tire which is provided with an embedded hard substance and does not have the disadvantages mentioned, which rather ensures increased fluidity of the tread material on the one hand and an even greater anti-slip resistance on the other due to its peculiar structure.
The invention is based on the knowledge that it is possible to incorporate a solid material into the rubber from which the rubber tires are made before vulcanization in such a way that after completion a movement of the hard bodies inward is definitely avoided. The order of the solid material in the rubber he follows in such a way that with the Ab use of the tread of the tires provided with this Be the hard embedding emerge, later fall out and thereby cause a rough tread with strong adhesion.
Such an embedding of the hard insert material succeeds; that fine grains of quartz are incorporated into the rubber in a uniform distribution, using a binder that anchors the quartz that has been added to the rubber in place so that any movement within the rubber after vulcanization is impossible . To achieve the desired effect, it is necessary to use quartz, the grain size of which does not exceed 1 mm.
The quartz grains must be incorporated into the rubber in an amount of 10 to 30%. If the specified limit is exceeded, the tread rubber becomes brittle; if it is not reached, it loses its anti-skid resistance.
The binding agent with which the quartz grains are coated ensures good anchoring so that the hard quartz grains do not destroy the rubber when the tires are used after vulcanization.
The preparation of the quartz grains for the production of non-skid rubber tires can be carried out as follows: Quartz, with a grain size of about 1 mm, is thoroughly cleaned, sieved, dried and then added to the binding agent. The binder can advantageously consist of a viscous, easily hardening mass of 150 parts by weight of black lead and 50 "glycerine. The entire mass is then dried at medium temperature.
The quartz that has now been prepared and provided with a glaze by the binding agent is then incorporated in an amount of 10 to 30% unvulcanized rubber, which can be done in the usual way during mastication on the rolling mill.
