The invention relates to a mechanism for operating an oscillating door, for example for a hangar, boat shed, garage, store, etc., this mechanism being characterized in that it comprises levers articulated on the upright. of the door and arranged to act, under the action of springs on the lower part of the door, the upper part of which moves on rolling tracks extending in a horizontal direction, the arrangement being such that the upper part of the door, during the opening movement or,
closing of the latter, moves along said raceways, while the door itself pivots around its upper part, to occupy a horizontal position when it is open and a vertical position when it is closed.
The mechanism according to the invention is preferably established so that during the opening movement of the door, the latter oscillates about a horizontal axis located at its upper part, which; simultaneously, is brought to. move backward and inward along said raceways.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a door equipped with an operating mechanism; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the door, and FIG. 3 is a detail view on a larger scale.
The door shown in fi-. 1 comprises two panels 1, 2, joined by means -de angle irons 3 and 4, to prevent its deformation, particularly when the door is raised horizontally.
The door is provided on each side, at its upper end, with rollers 5 which roll on rails 6, preferably slightly tilted backwards and downwards, so as to facilitate the opening of said door. The rails 6 are suspended towards: the rear, by means of supports 7, from a beam 8, tan say that the front ends of these rails are fixed to the vertical uprights 9 - of the door frame. The rails 6 can also be suspended at suitable points on the ceiling or on the roof of the space to be closed.
As can be seen, the door hangs vertically over the front of the opening that it must close.
Supports 10 fixed to the uprights 9 of the door frame serve to articulate the Il viers whose lower ends are mounted so as to be able to turn on the door at 12. Springs 1.3 are attached. the upper ends of the levers 11 and the lower ends -de these springs are fixed at 14 to said amounts 9 @du frame. The parts of the levers to which the springs are attached have holes 15 so that the tension of these springs can be adjusted.
The springs 13 are arranged with respect to the levers and to the articulations of the latter, so that the tension of the spring is exerted in the extreme positions of the door, in one direction, forming an angle with the line passing through the articulations -of the levers, the arrangement being such that the ten siGn of the spring tends to keep the door in place both in its open position and in its closed position.
A tie rod, 16 made in the form of a rope, cable or rod is attached to the door in order to allow it to be pulled in order to facilitate it to assume its closed position.
The rollers 5 are mounted on the door as shown in fig. 3, in order to -allow the -longitudinal displacement of the shaft 17, so that the rollers 5 always remain engaged on the .chemin .de rolling 6 despite the irregularities -which may come from the warping, of the wood - door or any other cause. As indicated, the ar ber 17 carries lugs 18 which limit its movement in one direction, this shaft 17 engaging with play in a sleeve 19 carried by a recessed support 20 fixed to the door.
To lock the door when it is closed, locking rods 21 are secured. In: articulated guides 22 and the internal hoppers -ex of these rods are connected to a rotating plate 28 which, when it is rotated in one direction, pushes the rods back by engaging their ends in the plate holes attached to the door frames, while when the rotating plate -is turned in an opposite direction, it disengages the rods 21 from the holes in the worm plates rusting. The rotary plate 23 is provided with handles 24 allowing it to be turned.
The plate 23 also has a groove 25 for engaging the bolt of a latch 26.
In order to prevent the entry of dust and other similar bodies into the space enclosed by the door, the latter has on its side -top and on its lateral sides -the mortises 27, while the corresponding mortises 28 have been made. in the sleepers 9 -from the door.
The operation of this door is as follows. We will assume that the door occupies the position shown in fi-. 1 and that the rusting worm stems 21 have been released. By means of a handle 29 located at the bottom of the door, the latter is pulled outwards, making it assume the position shown in FIG. 2. The result of this movement is that the rollers 5 mounted at the upper end of the door roll on the rails 6 towards the interior of the building, while the levers 11 assume a position which defers the line of action. -springs 13 beyond the line passing through the joints of these levers.
As soon as the springs have passed dead center, they exert a traction on the levers and complete the opening of the door, the upper end of which advances into the interior of the building, until the door occupies the high a horizontal position. When the door has taken this position, the levers 11 are substantially in a vertical position and the traction exerted by the springs is sufficient to hold them in this position and keep the door open.
To close the door, pulling downward and outward is exerted on the tie rod 16 to rotate the levers II against the resistance opposed by the springs 13 which are stretched during this operation.
