Liquid pump. The object of the invention is a single-acting liquid pump, comprising a pump body and a piston moving therein.
It is characterized by means serving to collect the liquid which leaks between the pump body and the piston and to return it to the suction of the pump, so that it does not come out of the latter.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically two embodiments of the pump. Figs. 1 and 2 are longitudinal sections of the two embodiments.
The first embodiment (fig. 1) comprises the pump body ca as well as the piston b moving in the first and not comprising special sealing members, such as pressed leathers, but only annular grooves e, forming a chicane.
The rod d of the piston b is hollow and is connected, at one of its ends, @ to a liquid reservoir not shown, at the other, to a chamber e formed in b; in the latter is housed a suction valve f-9 whose body f is applied to a seat g; the stroke of the body f is limited to the left by an ankle h. There is still a discharge valve, not shown.
The pump body a is closed at its right end by a bottom i, in which an opening j is formed with a diameter larger than that of the rod d. This opening j, in turn, is closed by a washer k made of a flexible material, leather for example, the hole of which has a diameter corresponding to that of this rod; the washer k is held bare in place by a metal plate l secured to the bottom i by screws m, once ka has been threaded onto d. < / I> Holes n connect the chamber o to the right of the piston inside the rod d.
When using the pump shown, the liquid which leaks between the pump body a and the piston b is collected in the chamber o and returns through the holes n thereof in the rod d forming an aspiration pipe. The pressure in this chamber o is low; therefore, it is not necessary for the washer to be strongly applied to the rod d to prevent leakage along it, so that the resulting friction is small.
Thanks to the measures adopted, there is no loss of liquid, since the one that leaks returns to the suction; this is very advantageous in many cases, for example when the liquid has a certain value, when it is harmful, when it becomes dirty.
The rod d can be massive and the suction can be done through an opening in the chamber o; in this case, the latter, interposed between the suction and the part of the pump body a., in which the discharge takes place, is necessarily crossed by the liquid going to this part of the pump body.
In the second embodiment, the udder b and the rod d are massive. The suction q and discharge r valves are placed on the body a; the first leads to a suction line s.
The chamber o, collecting the liquid which leaks between the body a and the piston b, is connected by a pipe t to the suction pipe s. This liquid is thus returned to the suction.
