Description

Process for the preparation of a therapeutically valuable derivative of veratrum acid. It has been found that the previously unknown Veratrumsäurediäthylamid have valuable therapeutic properties. The subject of the present invention is a process for the preparation of veratrum acid diethylamide, which is characterized in that diethylamine is allowed to act on the halides of veratrums acid.

Veratrumsäurediäthylamid is a viscous, colorless, slightly bitter-tasting oil, which boils at 201 to 205 under a pressure of 12 mm. It is miscible with water in all proportions. It is easily soluble in alcohol and ether. Petroleum ether does not dissolve much.

The Veratrumsäurediethylamid should be used as a drug.

Example; 40.1 parts of veratrolyl chloride are dissolved in 400 parts of absolute ether and poured into a solution of 29 parts of diethylamine in 100 parts of absolute ether. Diethylamine chlorohydrate precipitates and is separated off after a few hours. After the ether has evaporated, the remaining oil is distilled in vacuo.

For further purification, the distillate is dissolved in a little water, precipitated by adding potash, taken up in ether and, after drying over potash, distilled again in vacuo, the veratrum acid diethylamide passing over under a pressure of 12 mm at 20-1205 .
