Semiautomatic advance guard of the workpiece for circular saws. The advancement of the piece of wood to be cut with a circular saw is generally done by hand. The worker advances the piece to be cut by pressing it with his hands, on the one hand, against the guide of the table and, on the other hand, against the table itself, to obtain a clean and straight cut. . However, the slightest mistake can have the effect of serious accidents, injuries, etc.
To overcome these drawbacks, the present invention relates to a protector with semi-automatic advancement of the workpiece for circular saws, comprising two wheels parallel to the plane of the saw blade, mounted idle on a shaft with adjustable support in all directions and arranged astride the front part of the blade passing the table, so that they rest on the piece of wood to be cut, one of the wheels being furthermore provided with a transmission in the The aim is to drive the part to be cut in a semi-automatic manner and thus to constitute effective protection against the dangers of accidents.
The attached drawing gives, by way of example, an embodiment of a similar protector.
Fig. 1 is an elevation thereof and FIG. 2 a plan view.
To facilitate understanding, the protector is attached to a circular saw 1, shown in the dotted drawing. Essential parts such as table 2, saw blade 3 and ruler 4 are drawn in solid lines.
The protector, mounted in the form shown on a support 5 fixed to the floor by lag screws 6, has the shape of a vertical barrel provided at its upper part with a frête 7, to be tightened by a lever bolt 8. In the barrel is engaged a column 9 with adjustable height, ending at the upper part by a hinge 10, in the form of a fork between the branches of which can be adjusted at variable inclination, by means of a lever bolt 8 ', 1' # i1 11 of a second support 12 in the bearing 13 of which passes perpendicularly to the axis of said support the shaft 14 carrying the wheels lb and 16.
The two wheels are braced to leave play for the saw blade 3. The wheel 16 is provided with a stepped pulley 17 controlled by a drive strap. Each wheel is lined in its groove with a rubber ring or leather cry, to ensure adhesion between the piece of wood 18 to be sawed and the table 2.
Once the piece to be sawn 18 is in place and the guide rule 4 adjusted, the protector is applied, fixing the column 9 at the desired height so that the knurls support the piece of wood 18 well. The inclination of the support 12 and the tension of the strap engaged in the stepped pulley 17 by means of the hinge 10 and the handle 8 ', and the protector is thus ready to operate. During the operation of the saw 3, the part 18 is always pressed on the table 2 and its advancement ensured of a semi-automatic n-groove by the wheels dragged by the strap acting on the pulley 17.
The worker can thus better monitor the sawing operation, without running the risk of getting his fingers caught by the blade 3, the knobs 15 and 16 preventing any interference with the hand of said blade.
It is also possible to place on the knurling wheels a cap, not shown in the drawing, the shape of which could be semi-cylindrical or in a cap, resting on the two stop rings 19 and 20 of the shaft 14. This cap provides at the same time a protection against splinters in the event of breakage of the saw blade.
