Process for the preparation of a di-chloroacetyl-o, o'-dimethogy-dipbenyl ether. It is known that the action of acetyl chloride or benzoyl chloride on diphenyl ether (B. 38,2492) produces phenoxyacetophenone or phenoxybenzophenone.
It has now been found that, under special conditions, surprisingly, the co-halogenated phenoxyacetophenones or their substitution products can also be produced by the action of halogenated acyl balogenides.
The formation of these compounds is all the more surprising as, according to the cited reference, for example, acetyl chloride and diphenyl ether can only be used to produce phenoxyacetophenone, while when halogenated acyl chlorides are used, diacylated diphenyl ethers are preferably formed and only if very special conditions are met the monoacylated compounds are formed.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a dichloroacetyl-o, o'-dimethoxy-diphenyl ether of the formula:
EMI0001.0027
characterized in that chloroacetyl chloride is allowed to act on o, o'-dimethoxydiphenyl ether. The reaction product forms colorless prisms that melt at 15411 C, are insoluble in water and soluble in hot organic solvents such as benzene and alcohol.
The compound, irr which the * co-chlorine atoms can be exchanged for ammonia or amines, should serve as an intermediate product for the production of therapeutically active substances.
Example: To a mixture of 12 grams of aluminum chloride with 10 grams of o, o'-dimetboxy-diphenyl ether, 10 grams of chloroacetyl chloride are added dropwise at room temperature, the reaction product is broken down with ice and the precipitating product is crystallized Product made from benzene.
The connection is a dichloroacetylated o, o'-dimethoxy-diphenyl ether. It crystallizes in the form of colorless prisms with a melting point of 154, is insoluble in H2O, soluble in hot organic solvents such as benzene and alcohol.
