Apparatus for adjusting the rate of separation of particles suspended or silted up in a liquid. The present invention relates to apparatus for adjusting the speed of separating particles suspended or silted up in a liquid. While with known apparatus of this type the separation of suspended or silted particles in liquids takes place at different speeds, the object of the invention apparatus has the purpose of bringing about the most uniform, comparable and adjustable speed possible for separating such parts.
This apparatus is intended in particular for medical purposes, namely to adjust the rate of separation of blood samples, for example; however, it can also be used to adjust the speed of the separation of other types of parts suspended or silted up in a liquid, where gravity acts as the separation force. The apparatus according to the invention has a frame with a retaining device for tubes in which the separation of particles suspended in liquids or silted up is to be carried out.
The retaining device is designed in such a way that the tubes all assume an equally inclined position in a common vertical plane. The retaining device can be adjustable relative to the frame in order to adjust the angle of inclination of the tubes and thus to be able to change the speed of separation. Furthermore, the retaining device can be set up in such a way that tubes with a flattened cross-sectional shape, that is to say deviating from the circular shape, can be accommodated in the same. The same can then be equipped with a setting device offset with a scale to directly indicate the inclination angle of the tubes.
The accompanying drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. Fig. 1 is the front view of the same, Fig. 2 is a plan view and Fig. 3 is an end view, seen from the left side of Fig. 1, with individual parts that would have the clarity can affect, are omitted; Fig. 4 shows an individual part and Fig. 5 shows a tube on a larger scale.
At one end (right) of the base plate 1, a traverse 2 is attached and at its other end a set screw 4 angeord net, while at the two ends of the Tr verse 2 set screws 3 are also provided; By means of these three adjusting screws, the base plate 1 can be set in the precisely horizontal position. At the top of the base plate, a bar 5 is attached in the longitudinal direction, which carries a fixed holding plate 6 above; this latter is provided on the front with inclined incisions 7 at equal distances from each other, which as an intermediate storage for glass tubes 8 the NEN.
On the bar 5, two ver vertical stand 9 are also attached, which carry on their remote end two plates 10 and 11, between which one of the lower retaining plate 6 similarly designed fixed holding plate 12 is clamped; the slope of their incisions 13 is that of the A sections 7 of the plate 6 opposite ge directed. At the upper end of the stand 9, a plate 14 is also attached, which is provided with a longitudinal groove 15 on the underside. The base plate 1 with the bar 5, the stand 9 and the plate 14 forms a frame for the retaining device formed by the plates 6 and 12.
On the base plate 1 is by means of Ba jonettverschlüsse 16 a plate 17 under half of the retaining plate 6 removable be fastened, which is based on the front of the bar 5; its front edge protrudes a little over that of the plate 6. On this plate 17 rubber sets 18 are fastened at equal mutual distances vonein other, the number of which corresponds to that of the incisions 7 and 13 in the retaining plates 6 and 12; these rubber attachments form sealing devices for the tubes B supported on them.
A lace 19 is attached to the uppermost plate 14, the tip of which is exactly opposite a fixed point 20 attached to the bar 5 when the base plate 1 is set exactly in the horizontal position by means of the adjusting screws 3 and 4. To control the correct position of the base plate 1, a level can also be seen, for example.
In order to make blood samples with the apparatus described, for example, after blood has been sucked into the individual tubes, the upper end of the tube is covered with a finger to prevent the contents from leaking. Each tube is first inserted individually into one of the incisions 7 of the lower retaining plate 6 and at the same time pressed against the rubber extension 18 corresponding to this incision, whereupon the finger can be removed from the upper end of the tube. The tube in question is now also swiveled into the matching incision 13 of the upper retaining plate 12 and inserted with its upper end into the longitudinal groove 15 of the plate 14.
In this way, all the tubes used are retained and, as a result of the same mutual spacing of the incisions 7 and 13 in the retaining plates 6 and 12 offset from one another, have the same inclination. In the example shown, the angle of inclination of the tubes is 45. At the same time, however, all tubes are in a common vertical plane.
The tubes 8 can have both circular ring-shaped, as well as oval cross-sectional shape, for example, wherein the longer axis can be directed either parallel or perpendicular to the direction of inclination.
Examinations carried out have shown that the degree of speed of separation depends on the size of the passage cross-section, the length and the angle of inclination of the tubes, whereby the vertical distance d-e (Fix.
5) of the liquid level from an imaginary horizontal plane laid through the lower opening of the tubes and the vertical distance fg of the upper and lower side of an inclined tube are decisive, in the sense that the speed of separation is increased when the height de the Liquid column in a tube is increased, whereas the speed is reduced when the distance fg increases. Partly the length of a tube and partly the angle of inclination determine the dimension d - e.
Partly the angle of inclination of the tube and partly the length of the axis of the cross-sectional shape of a tube perpendicular to the plane of inclination have a determining effect on the dimension 1-g, while the axis of the cross-sectional shape parallel to the inclined nose does not seem to have any influence on the speed of separation.
It is precisely for this reason that the cross-sectional shape of the tubes can deviate from the circular one, whereby the advantage can be achieved that the volume of the tubes can be changed within certain limits while maintaining the speed of the separation.
The retaining plate 6 can be arranged on the bar 5 and the plate 12 between the plates 10 and 11 can be displaced. Furthermore, the vertical distance of the plates 10 and 1.1 from the top plate 14 can be changed, for example, by placing more on the offset pins of the stand 9. or fewer rings are pushed. Both measures allow a change in the angle of inclination of the tubes B. The passage cross-section and the length of the tubes are expediently chosen so that the desired rate of separation can easily be achieved in each individual case by changing the angle of inclination of the tubes.
In order to indicate this directly, a scale can be attached to the adjustment device of the Festhaltevor direction, for example.
