Abstract
A portable facility to provide a retail facility that includes internal secure storage for materials requiring secure storage. The facility provides for an internally located vault that does not directly contact any interior wall of the facility, or the roof or the floor. The vault includes locking mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access to the interior of the vault.
Description
PORTABLE RETAIL STRUCTURE WITH SECURE INTERNALIZED STORAGE
Field of the Invention The invention is in the field of portable retail sale facilities with internal secure storage, in particular for use in the storage and dispensing of controlled substances.
Background The secure storage and dispensing of substances that pose a risk to human health, or which are considered controlled substances for various medical and regulatory reasons (e.g., prescription drugs, cannabis products) is an ongoing concern and problem.
Traditionally these substances have been stored and dispensed in pharmacies which are typically permanent structures. In some cases there are needs to be able to provide portable means of delivering controlled substances such as in rural or underserved areas, in times of public emergency and the like.
Summary of the Invention In one embodiment, the invention of the present disclosure comprises a portable structure configured for use as a retail Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 space for dispensing of controlled substances and for the secure storage of such substances to prevent unauthorized access.
In one aspect, an embodiment comprises a portable, modular structure that within it include a secure storage vault in which materials can be safely stored. In one embodiment, the vault is configured such that it does not share any outside surface with an outside wall of the modular structure.
In yet other embodiments, the invention comprises security systems to prevent unauthorized access to stored materials in the vault, as well as unauthorized access to the modular structure itself.
Figures Fig. 1 depicts a top view of an embodiment of a floor plan for a portable retail space with secure internal storage according to the present disclosure.
Fig. 2 depicts a side view of an embodiment of a portable retail space with secure internal storage according to the present disclosure.

2 Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 Detailed Description of the Invention The present disclosure provides for a portable, or modular, retail facility that includes within it a secure storage space in which materials can be placed to limit unauthorized access.
In one embodiment, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a modular retail facility 1 comprises an enclosure the enclosure including a floor 200, roof 201, end walls 100, and side walls 101. The facility will also have openings for entry and exit into the interior of the enclosed space. In some cases, there can be a single opening that serves both as entry and exit, in other embodiments, the facility can have opening designated to be used as a separate entrance 20 and exit 21 as shown in. Fig. 1.
The interior of the structure can be configured in a number of ways. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the enclosure includes unsecured storage areas 40, a room for staff use (e.g. lunch or break room) 50, which can include a table and chairs for the convenience of those working in the facility. Other conveniences can include designated space for mechanical systems (e.g., heating and air conditioning equipment) 60, and washroom facilities 70. The various spaces within the interior of the enclosure may also include interior doors 120 to separate the various spaces from adjacent spaces. Optionally, the structure

The various spaces within the interior of the enclosure may also include interior doors 120 to separate the various spaces from adjacent spaces. Optionally, the structure
3 Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 may also include windows 102 to admit natural light and/or for aesthetic reasons. Windows may also serve as emergency exits in cases where the normal entry and exit doors are blocked or otherwise inoperable or inaccessible.
In terms of the use of the structure, there can be a designated retail space 90 that is accessible to customers and employees.
The retail space may be configured in various ways know in the art of retail space design, and may include one or more display counters 91, one or more wall product displays 92, and one or more floor standing product display cases 93. The number, location, size and shape of these product display systems will be dependent on the nature of the products being sold;
considerations related to whether specialized storage (e.g.
refrigeration; protection from light) is required; other consideration related to the specific nature of the product(s) being handled. The precise layout of the retail space is not considered to be limiting to the scope of the invention.
Of particular novelty is the inclusion of a secure storage vault 80. As seen from Fig. 1, the vault is positioned so that it does not share an external surface 81 with either an end wall 100 or side wall 101 of the facility. As shown in Fig., it is also apparent that the vault 80 does not share any external surface

As shown in Fig., it is also apparent that the vault 80 does not share any external surface
4 Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 with either the floor 200 or roof 201 of the facility. Thus, the vault is effectively suspended in space within the interior of the facility.
The vault can be structured in a variety of ways, including an additional interior wall 82. The materials of the exterior surface 81 and interior wall 82 can be fashioned from a variety of materials, typically those that will be difficult to compromise, and which will be resistant to conditions such as fire in order to protect any materials stored within the vault interior 83. The vault will also include a means to access the interior of the vault, typically some form of a vault door 84, or other like opening. The vault door 84 will normally include some a mechanism to prevent unauthorized access. This can include locking a locking mechanism, which may be attached to the door such as is done with simple latch and padlock systems, or which may be integral to the door, i.e. built into the structure of the door itself.
The locking mechanism can comprise a purely mechanical mechanism operating the lock in which case the locking mechanism is operated by a key or by manipulation of a mechanism such as those found in mechanical combination locks, which may include rotatable dials, push buttons and the like. In some embodiments, Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 the locking mechanism may comprise a combination electromechanical device in which the mechanical portion of the lock that allows the door to be open or secured, includes electronic components for its operation. In these cases, a "key" might comprise fob including an RFID device to permit opening of the locking mechanism electronically. Alternatively, in electromechanical configurations the locking mechanism may include a keypad for entering of a code comprised of numbers letters or other symbols. An electronic lock may be programmable so that a variety of unique combinations can be assigned to different users to enable one to know who has accessed the vault at any particular time, or to keep a record of who has been accessing the vault and when it has been accessed. or as described above, an electronic system might be accessible using a fob containing an RFID device. It may also be possible to have a locking mechanism operable in response to a fingerprint, retinal scan or using face recognition or combinations thereof for enhanced security.
To enhance the security of the facility, it may also comprise additional security systems. In addition to locking mechanisms on the exit and entry doors to prevent access when the facility is unattended, the facility may include motion sensors, alarm systems that detect if doors or windows are opened, or when Date Recue/Date Received 2021-02-15 attempts are made to compromise the external structure of the facility, including the end walls, side walls, roof or floor.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that many more modifications besides those already described are possible without departing from the inventive concepts herein. For example, it will be realized that the optimal dimensions for the various parts of the invention, materials, shape, form, manner of assembly, and operation or use will be apparent to those of skill in the art. The inventive subject matter, therefore, is not to be restricted except in the scope of any claims as may be directed to the disclosure presented herein.
Moreover, in interpreting both the specification and the claims, all terms should be interpreted in the broadest possible manner consistent with the context. In particular, the terms "comprises" and "comprising" should be interpreted as referring to elements, components, or steps in a non-exclusive manner, indicating that the referenced elements, components, or steps may be present, or utilized, or combined with other elements, components, or steps that are not expressly referenced. All suitable modifications and equivalents that may be resorted to are thereby considered to be within the scope of the present invention.
