Abstract
This invention relates to detachably securing many styles of blinds and window fashions to a rail that when the rail is attached to adapter brackets will be strong enough to secure the window fashions over a span of window where there is no mullion or where the owner of the windows has decided that the window fashions be hung other than at the top of the window sash or the wall or the ceiling thus creating the possibility of sagging of the window fashions because of lack of proper support.
Description
DESCRIPTION
Title: Rail and Adapter Bracket for hanging window fashions Technical field: Window fashion industry Background information and prior art: none available for public use This invention relates to a metal rail and adapter bracket that will allow for the hanging of window fashions onto windows that do not have a mullion or where the owner of the windows want placement of the window fashions hung at a level below the top of the window sash or ceiling.
Design of the metal rail and adapter bracket are not new but use of the metal rail and adapter bracket is new.
In the field of the window drapery and blind profession many different problems arise because of configuration of windows and ways to dress them. One of these problems arises when applying a window drapery or blind treatment to a window where there is no mullion made of wood or metal that structurally joins two window units, (this window design commonly known as direct set window) or placement of window fashions is desired other then at the top sash of the window or the ceiling. This design relates to a metal support rail and adapter brackets for the window fashion industry.
item 1 & 2 form the rail with 3,4 & 5 being fastener holes, #3 being an optional elongated aperture that will allow latitude in fastener placement, the manufacturer will decide whether to have this or the standard countersunk fastener holes.
Item 7 & 8 being the flat edges of the rail and # 6, 6a, 6b being the flat edges of the optional welded bracket Item 9 & 10 is the adapter bracket items 11 & 12 are the countersunk fastener holes Item 13 being an optional shouldered rivet in the optional welded bracket Item 14, 15, 16 related to various commercial brackets , these drawings representing the variety of commercial brackets rather than specific brackets The adapter bracket is mounted on the inside jamb of the window. The adapter bracket is mounted by placing the leg on the jamb of the window opening with the top parallel to the top of the window sash at the height designated by the homeowner and the interior face toward the opposite jamb.

The adapter bracket is mounted by placing the leg on the jamb of the window opening with the top parallel to the top of the window sash at the height designated by the homeowner and the interior face toward the opposite jamb.
Utilizing countersunk fastener holes 11, 12, the adapter bracket 9, 10 is fastened to the window jamb.. Using common fasteners, the heads are recessed into countersunk fastener holes of adapter bracket 11 & 12. It is conceived that pre-punched holes can be formed along the length of the adapter bracket to increase the grip of the adapter bracket to the window jamb. The rail 1, 2 may then be fastened to the adapter bracket using common fasteners.
There may be a variety of methods in attaching the rail to the adapter bracket, another method may be to have a shouldered rivet or protrusion extending from the adapter bracket that is engageable with an aligned slot in the rail or the shouldered rivet or protrusion may extend from the rail and be engageable with an aligned slot in the adapter bracket.
Adapter brackets are identical in all respects - except that, as illustrated, they are reverse images of each other, one being adapted to fit a window jamb in the left-hand side of the window and the other being adapted to the right hand side of the window.
Description of one adapter bracket accordingly serves to describe the pair. The adapter bracket may be fashioned from any sturdy metal material that will be capable of supporting the weight of the window fashion.
With the installation of the adapter bracket first in a level position that will ensure that the installation of the rail will likewise be level. .
The rail may be fashioned from metal alloy that would be lightweight yet very strong. The choice of materials available in the industry will be left up to the manufacturer. The length of the rail will be determined by the width of the window opening. The strength of the rail will be determined by the length and weight of the window fashion that is to be hung.
To attach the rail to the adapter bracket there will be pre-drilled countersunk openings in the rail that would correspond to the openings in the adapter bracket to facilitate the common fasteners to attach the two part assembly securely to each other.
The back of the rail and adapter bracket are substantially smooth and flat, which, characteristic permits the apparatus to be mounted flush against a window jamb or other mounting media. The character of the rail also permits the satisfactory mounting of the apparatus to window jambs or other media that have a slight curvature or minute surface irregularities.
It is very important that the adapter bracket not be attached in any way that will nullify the window manufacturer's warranties.

To accommodate the many variations in the window fashion industry, the rail will have custom spaced countersunk drilled holes to accommodate the installation brackets that are included with blinds and window fashions according to the industries mounting requirements. These installation brackets that are designed by the window fashion industry all accommodate common fasteners to mount the window fashions to the rail.
Another option for the manufacturer of this rail and adapter bracket is that count pre-mount brackets for specific blinds or window treatments in custom orders.
Although the invention has been described with reference to these preferred embodiments, other embodiments can achieve the same results. Since various modifications can be made in our invention as hereinabove described, and many apparently widely different embodiments of same made within the spirit and scope of the claims without departing from such spirit and scope, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense.

Claims (3)
1. an adapter bracket made of metal alloy with two leg portions (one on each side) joined at a right angles. Both of these legs shall have either several countersunk regular fastener holes, or countersunk elongated holes, to allow variable spacing or an aligned slot in the adapter bracket that is engageable with a shouldered rivet, or protrusion, extending from the rail to accommodate security of load capacity.
2. The rail consists of a strong resilient metal alloy which is generally L -shaped in cross section and will include a flat horizontal leg and a vertical leg. These legs may be stamped at one operation from metal stock. This unit member may be bent into two side walls, the latter being bent and terminating in outwardly disposed parallel flanges or formed by joining the side edges of the flat horizontal leg and the side edges of the vertical and where these two surfaces meet, running a weld bead that extends continuously along the side edges. This rail will have several countersunk circular mounting holes or countersunk elongated holes on one or both side walls depending on manufacture to allow variable spacing and also flexibility in regard to accommodate a variety of window fashions and security of load capacity where it will be attached to the accompanying adapter bracket.
3. An optional triangular shape that may be permanently fixed on both ends of the rail that would optionally have a shouldered rivet or protrusion extending from the triangular shape that would be engageable with an aligned slot in the adapter bracket to accommodate security of load capacity.
