Description

Rist Rotator BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
For several decades men have used a variety of methods to build grip and forearm strength. From handgrips and free weight exercises to squeezing tennis balls, they met with varying degrees of success. A wrist roller devise was used for the same purpose. It consisted of a wood dowel with a hole drilled through it at the center. Through this hole a rope was attached on one end. On the other end, free weights were attached. A person would hold their arm out horozontal to the floor and then, using an alternating gripping rotation, roll the free weights up to the wood dowel and back down again. Although this exercise was very good, it could not do much for the forearms as the shoulders got tired from holding the weight in front of the body.
Though the concept was good, it had a limiting factor. if this concept could be improved upon to eliminate this factor, the dream of a superior exercise apparatus designed to focus on the grip and forearm strength could become a reality.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The Rist Rotator is a stationary exercise machine designed to allow the body to remove the stress on the shoulders and focus the effort on the handgrip and forearms. A
limited forward and backward movement is used to rotate the bar attached to two pulleys. The weights are attached to the bar with nylon webbing. The Rist Rotator uses both arms working together, gripping and rotating the bar backward and forward, putting equal resistance on both arms.
The grip is never released until the repetitions are completed for each set. The smooth frictionless movement of the rotating bar on the pulleys, with its limited rotation, gives a true reading of the weight being handled as when one uses free weights. Because this is a solid, stationary machine with a rotating bar that stays in a fixed position; mare resistance weight can be handled allowing for a maximuim workout on the fc~,s and handgrip.
(2) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF TAE INVENTION
The Rist Rotator is a machine designed to strengthen the grip and forearms. It consists of a bar (1) that rotates on two pulleys (3) located 67 cm. (26.5 inches) apart and attached to metal tubing uprights (6) at a height of 152.5 cm. ( 60 inches). (Note:) Height can be adjusted. Nylon webbing (7), 3.5 cm. (1.5 inches) wide and 96.5 cm. {3$ inches) long, is attached to a metal tube (4), designedto hold free weights (5). The weight will vary according to the individual's strength.
The hands both grip the bar on the foam handgrips (2), and rotate the bar forward till the weights are three to six inches off the ground. The individual uses a forward /
backward wrist action without ever changing his grip position on the bar handgrips. Twenty to thirty repititions are used in the forward motion. The weights are then lowered to the ground and the bar is rotated in the opposite direction so that the weights are again three to six inches off the ground. A backward /
forward action in the opposite direction is used for twenty to thirty repititions . This makes one complete set working all the muscles in the forearm. At this point it is recommended that the forearm muscles be stretched for 30 seconds and then do another complete set .
Repeat this procedure for two to three sets, stretching after each complete set. The stretch becomes the rest ~riod between sets.
The rotating bar ( 1 ), uses two 3" metal washers spaced 1 sJS" apart. The webbing (7) is attached to a metal bolt ll4 " above the rotating bar, drilled through both washers and secured with a nut.
The other end of the webbing is attached by a 2 1/4" metal carbiner.
The uprights {6), are constructed of 2" x 2" metal tubing supported by two 26"
stabilizing legs ( 11 ), of the same construction.
A channeled flat plate (10), measuring (28 114" x 5 1/4") having cuxves sides for strength and rigidity, is attached to the top of the machine.
Another flat plate (8), without curved sides, measuring (40" x 6") is used as the base plate for
(3) stability. It is attached to the uprights, (6), arid the stabilizing legs (1 I). Metal stabilizers (9), are also attached to the outside of the uprights (6) and base legs ( 11 ), for stability and rigidity.
The handles (2), are 5 tl4" wide and made of tl4" thick wall, foam to ensure a soft touch yet non-slip surface.
Non skid plastic base feet ( 10), protect the bottom stabilizer leg ends ( 1 I
) and provide base friction to eliminate machine movement.
All parts are powdercoated white with black handgrips, pulleys, webbing and plastic ends.
The total weight of the machine is 60 pounds, excluding free weights.
