Abstract

When a backrest (12) of a seat (10) is pivoted, the centre of gravity of the person sitting or reclining in the seat (10) is changed. This results in the risk of the seat (10) together with its supporting frame tipping over when the inclination of the backrest (12) is changed. According to the invention, it is envisaged that when the backrest (12) of the seat (10) is pivoted, the seat surface (11) and preferably also the backrest (12) can be displaced on a horizontal path with respect to the supporting frame. This enables the change in the centre of gravity which occurs in a horizontal direction when a person is transferred from a sitting position into a reclining position or vice versa to be compensated for. As a result, the centre of gravity of the person does not change, at least in a horizontal direction, if the backrest (12) is adjusted. The risk of tipping over when the backrest (12) of the seat (10) is pivoted up or down is thereby avoided. It is furthermore envisaged, according to the invention, to couple the seat (10) releasably to the supporting frame. The supporting frame can be a wheeled carriage, chair frame or the like for children or disabled people, in particular for young disabled people.
