Abstract

In construction of gateposts it is common to place two posts, separately secured to the ground by earth, rocks, cement or grout. In this invention two steel gateposts are fixed vertically on a long horizontal steel member. There are two shorter horizontal steel members fixed at tight angles on both ends of this horizontal member to make a freestanding system. The system can then be placed in the desired location, without additional support, by burying the horizontal steel members in the roadbed.

Description

Soecificutions This invention relates to improvements to the method for securing gates and gateposts in order that they remain rigid and straight. Previous methods of securing gateposts into the ground have been more or less successful; however, there is room for improvement.
This invention addresses the following:
1. gate posts that sag with age or the weight of heavy gates;
2. the problem of precisely hanging, leveling and spacing gates between posts when the posts are placed in position independently ofeach other;
3. the potential of quick and convenient temporary installments. It is oi3en desirable to relocate gates on farms or to construct temporary enclosures for livestock. In other situations, such as oil field drilling sites, they could be used to deny vehicle access or livestock access to dangerous situations.

Claims (8)

1. The gate assembly consists of a straight length of pipe or square tubing adapted to be set into a roadway.
2. The pipe or tubing in claim one has two horizontal members welded on each end at right angles as stabilizing arms to create a freestanding base frame.
3. Gateposts are fixed rigidly and vertically to the said horizontal base frame in claim two.
4. Gateposts of claim three are stabilized by two short diagonal braces fixed to each post and to the horizontal base frame.
5. The said base frame of claim one and two may be adapted for transport by division into two separate entities joined by an inner sleeve coupling.
6. An opening is provided into the base frame of claim one and two, through the stabilizing arms, to allow the pipe to act as conduit for electrical or communication cables.
