Abstract

In the addition of a secondary seal to a beverage can, with the objective to allow air in as the beverage is dispensed, it is known that, when positioned accordingly, its activation will enable the smooth pouring of the given liquid. In this invention, a secondary seal is added to the design of beverage cans. The seal may be positioned in several areas on the can whereby it is to remain functional. The secondary seal is to be pressed from and attached to (respectively) both the lid and the tab of the can in such a way that when the tab is pulled the rupture of the secondary seal results.

Description

SPECIFICATION
This invention relates to a manually operated secondary seal, made of sheet material, for the purpose of enabling a beverage can to be poured more smoothly and have a more rapid rate of discharge.
It is a requirement of a beverage can tab to open a scored mouthpiece for the purpose of allowing a beverage to be dispensed. The presence of only one seal, however, is ineffective for the reason that when the beverage is poured there is not sufficient space for air to enter the can to replace the liquid and maintain constant pressure. This is the reason that cans 'chug' as they are poured from resulting in messy spills and poor drainage capacities.
They are unsatisfactory to drink from for these reasons.
I have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by providing a secondary seal or score lined opening. It is to be pressed from the can lid and riveted to the tab. The seal is to be located on the most elevated side of the can lid, in a way that pose's the least compensation to the can's function (e.g. so that it is unlikely to become plugged with the contents of the container or be obstructive when opening). This seal would enable airflow into the can increasing liquid flow from the container. It is a cheap to produce gimmick with a function, in turn extremely attractive to potential investors. Preliminary experiments prove that, with an air intake, conventional cans poor and drain with a rate that is exponentially relative to the area of the secondary opening.

DRAWINGS
In these drawings which illustrate embodiments of the invention, Figure 1: is an aerial view and visual explanation showing the approximate location of the secondary seal.
Figure 2: is a section of line III-III of Figure 1 to present a profile of the given seal.
Figure 3: is an illustration to present the basic function of the added seal.
The invention "A" illustrated within the circles of interest comprises seal "1" of the same body of rivet "2". Seal "1" lies flush with can lid "Y"
and is the main feature to the innovation. Invention "A" is scoredlpressed from and is an entity of can lid "Y" (before breakage of seal) fastened to and operated by tab "X". Score line is located at the junction line of "1" and "Y". In Figure 3 "r' represents the inward flow of air to fill the volume "V"
(within can) left by draining fluid "II" as explained in Claim 1 where "V" is relative to the flow of "II".
The embodiment of the invention "A" may vary in size, shape and location in accordance to the requirements of varying beverages and can designs whereas the same function is served. These drawing in no way imply the invention of a seal or riveting process but enclose the intellectual innovation of a additional opening with the purpose explained in Claim 1.

Claims (4)

1. The addition of a secondary seal scored/pressed from the sheet material of a beverage can for the purpose of allowing airflow into the can to replace volume left by draining fluid.
2. The beverage can addition as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said addition is fastened to the pull tab or similar device.
3. The beverage can addition as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said seal is produced with varying size and shape in accordance to desired intake/discharge capabilities of the product.
4. The beverage can addition as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the engineered design of said seal is such that the seal ruptures at desired pressure according to the structural resistance and issues of (Claim 2, Claim 3, Claim 4) of the materials used in the fabrication of the embodiments.
