Abstract
A blend mixture of organic composition for topical application to carpet, rug and upholstery serves as a disinfectant, germicide, fungicide, insecticide, deodorant, degreaser, while maintaining excellent cleaning ability in a one-step application is described. The liquid composition is topically applied to carpet, rug or upholstery by means of a dry fine wiping cloth or a sponge or the like. The composition comprises about, a) 1-5% by weight mineral oil, b) 10-60% by weight D'limonene, c) 5-20% by weight pine oil, d) 10-40% by weight mixed surfactants and e) 1-10% by weight co-solvent.

"Waterless Composition for Protecting, Disinfecting, Degre~sing, Deodorizing and Cleaning the Carpet, Rug and Upholstery"
Background of the Invention 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates generally to compositions for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning various articles such as carpet, rug and upholstety.
s 2. Description of the Prior Art Carpet, rug and upholstery cleaners' compositions are well known. Such compositions comprise sodium, potassium or lithium salts of alkylbenzene sulfonates and alkyl-(polyoxyethylene)-slllf~tes, triethanolamine, sulfates of higher fatty alcohols, sodium metasilicate, o sodium tripolyphosphate, petfumes and water. Although these compositions are e~llelllely effective and quite economical, they have serious failing. Some dele- ~enls, e.g. sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate and sodium alkyl-(polyoxyethylene)-sulfate, would leave a tacky residue behind. Accordingly, one could not walk on the carpet or tug, or not sit on an upholstered chair until this residue had completely dried so that the time necessary for the entire cleaning operation became impractically long.
When other detergents, e.g. sulfates of the higher fatty alcohols, are sprayed, either from a mechanical spraying device or from an aerosol mixture, an intolerable situation is produced, especially in confined unventilated ateas. The higher fatty alcohol detergent appalenlly acts as a 2 ~ 98327 respiratory irritant, causing persons in the vicinity of such spraying to cough and/or sneeze uncontrollably.
It is desirable for the composition to aid in cleaning and protecting the carpet, rug or upholstery from insect invasion, fungi attack, mould formation, moisture, odoring, severe oil 5 stain, food and drink stains and other surface deposits.
Summaly of the Invention To achieve the foregoing and other advantages, the present invention, briefly described, provides an organic based composition for topical application to carpet, rug or other upholsteries so as to 10 serve as a cleaner, degreaser, disinfectant, deodorant, and protective finish. The composition comprises mineral oil dispersed in mixture of dipentene (also known as D'limonene), terpene alcohols and terpineol (also known as pine oil) and the extender, preferably, isopropallol and relatively small amounts of additives including blend mixture of surfactants and so on. The said organic composition is topically applied to carpet, rug or other upholstery articles by means of a 5 fine wiping cloth. Once applied, the composition imparts a non-greasy, fresh, clean and brightness to the surface of the carpet, rug or upholstery.
The above brief description sets forth rather broadly the more important features of the present invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contributions to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
In this respect, before explaining the pler~lled embodiments of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of the construction and to the arrange,llel-ts of the components set forth in the following description. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is 5 to be understood, that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for de~igning other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the 10 claims be regarded as in~hl-ling such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Further, the purpose of the foregoing Abstract is to enable the Can~ n Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the public generally, and especially the scientists, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms of phraseology, to deterrnine quickly from a 5 cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.
Accoldh~gly, the Abstract is neither int~nded to define the invention or the application, which only is measured by the claims, nor is it intended to be limiting as to the scope of the invention in any way.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition for 20 protecting, dishlre~i~ing, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles and which has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles which may be e~ciently m~mlf~ctllred and marketed.
An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved composition for 5 protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles which is susceptible of a low cost of m~mlf~ctl1re with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the con~llming public, thereby making such composition available to the buying public.
Still yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved composition for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles and which is adapted to be topically applied to such articles in a ~l~,sparen~ liquid, easily sprayable form.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition that may be topically applied to various articles to add a non-greasy, fresh, clean and brightness to same.
These together with still other objects of the invention, along with the various features of novelty which char~cteri7e the invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims forming a part of this disclosure. For a better underst~n(ling of the invention, its operating advantages and the specific objects att~ined by its uses, reference should be made to the following detailed description 20 ofthe prt;relled embodiments ofthe invention.
Der~ ,lion of the preferred Embodiment The new and improved composition of the present invention comprises a mineral oil dispersed in D'limonene and pine oil to produce a transparent oily liquid, easily applied and spreadable phase.
The component comprises mineral oil dispersed in the mixture of D'limonene and pine oil with mineral oil being present in the said mixture in an amount by weight up to about 5%, with about 4% being mostly prerelled. The D'limonene present in the said mixture in an amount by weight up to about 60%, with about 45% being mostly pr~relled. The pine oil present in the said mixture in an amount by weight up to about 20%, with about 10% being mostly plerelled. The component also comprises mixture of surface active agents in an amount by weight up to 40%. A
0 mostly pLt;rt;lled composition comprises a mixture of 4% mineral oil, 45% D'limonene, 10% pine oil, 40% surface active agents and 10% co-solvent by weight.
The foregoing liquid phase composition is easily be stored in PVC bottle or can and simply may be diluted with water and applied to the surface of an article being treated by spraying and then spreading with a lint-free soft absorbent cloth, dry clean napkin, dry sponge or the like. The composition may also be applied by wiping or brushing with a wet cloth or sponge. The pl~relled method of application is by aerosol spray. The general practice for applying this diluted composition is to hold the container in an upright position, and then spraying the composition onto the surface from a distance of approxilllately 16 centimeters (about 6.5 inches). The surface is wiped with a clean soft absorbent cloth after 20 seconds. The surface may be rubbed to achieve the desired cle~nlin~ss. Alternately, the spray may be directed to a soft absorbent cloth and the thus treated cloth wiped onto the surface to be cleaned. When so applied, the liquid composition functions as a cleaner, disinfectant, deodorant, germicide, fungicide and degreaser. Hence, the 2 1 983~7 composition of the invention is ideally suited to be applied to carpets, rugs, upholsteries, callJil~e~s, kitchen ventilators, l~min~ted table tops, ceramic tiles and so on. The composition of the invention removes dust, stains, adhesive glue, grime and crayon m~rking and leaves a non-greasy, fresh, clean and bri~htness to the surface. The composition may also be applied to 5 metallic articles as a cleaner.
In addition to those already described above, additional ingredients optionally may be added to the composition of the invention. For example, if a particular cleaning power for cleaning the dry wall without demolishing the paint is desired, water may be added in an amount up to 50% by weight.
10 The following Examples further illustrate the prerelled embodiments of the invention, but are not to be construed as limiting Example 1 The following ingredients were mixed together to form an example of the composition of the invention (all quantities are stated as weight percent):

Example 2 5 The following ingredients were mixed together to form an example of the composition of the invention (all quantities are stated as weight percent):
Mineral Oil 1%
D'Limonene 20%
Pine Oil 5%

Water 57%
Total 100%
The resulting composition had a milky emulsion consistency. It was readily applied to the surface 5 of carpets, rugs, upholsteries, dry walls or leathers by a cloth hllpal~ g a fresh, clean and bri~htn~ss to the carpets, rugs, upholsteries, dry walls or leathers and leaving a protective film.
While the present invention has been fully described above with particularity and detail in connection with what is presently deemed to be the most practical and pl~relled example(s) of the invention, it will be appal~n~ to those of ordinary skill in the art that many modifications thereof 20 may be made without departing from the principles and concepts set forth herein. Hence, the proper scope ofthe present invention should be determined only by the broadest intel~ a~ion of the appended claims so as to encompass all such modifiGations.
Background of the Invention 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates generally to compositions for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning various articles such as carpet, rug and upholstety.
s 2. Description of the Prior Art Carpet, rug and upholstery cleaners' compositions are well known. Such compositions comprise sodium, potassium or lithium salts of alkylbenzene sulfonates and alkyl-(polyoxyethylene)-slllf~tes, triethanolamine, sulfates of higher fatty alcohols, sodium metasilicate, o sodium tripolyphosphate, petfumes and water. Although these compositions are e~llelllely effective and quite economical, they have serious failing. Some dele- ~enls, e.g. sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate and sodium alkyl-(polyoxyethylene)-sulfate, would leave a tacky residue behind. Accordingly, one could not walk on the carpet or tug, or not sit on an upholstered chair until this residue had completely dried so that the time necessary for the entire cleaning operation became impractically long.
When other detergents, e.g. sulfates of the higher fatty alcohols, are sprayed, either from a mechanical spraying device or from an aerosol mixture, an intolerable situation is produced, especially in confined unventilated ateas. The higher fatty alcohol detergent appalenlly acts as a 2 ~ 98327 respiratory irritant, causing persons in the vicinity of such spraying to cough and/or sneeze uncontrollably.
It is desirable for the composition to aid in cleaning and protecting the carpet, rug or upholstery from insect invasion, fungi attack, mould formation, moisture, odoring, severe oil 5 stain, food and drink stains and other surface deposits.
Summaly of the Invention To achieve the foregoing and other advantages, the present invention, briefly described, provides an organic based composition for topical application to carpet, rug or other upholsteries so as to 10 serve as a cleaner, degreaser, disinfectant, deodorant, and protective finish. The composition comprises mineral oil dispersed in mixture of dipentene (also known as D'limonene), terpene alcohols and terpineol (also known as pine oil) and the extender, preferably, isopropallol and relatively small amounts of additives including blend mixture of surfactants and so on. The said organic composition is topically applied to carpet, rug or other upholstery articles by means of a 5 fine wiping cloth. Once applied, the composition imparts a non-greasy, fresh, clean and brightness to the surface of the carpet, rug or upholstery.
The above brief description sets forth rather broadly the more important features of the present invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contributions to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
In this respect, before explaining the pler~lled embodiments of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of the construction and to the arrange,llel-ts of the components set forth in the following description. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is 5 to be understood, that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for de~igning other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the 10 claims be regarded as in~hl-ling such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Further, the purpose of the foregoing Abstract is to enable the Can~ n Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the public generally, and especially the scientists, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms of phraseology, to deterrnine quickly from a 5 cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.
Accoldh~gly, the Abstract is neither int~nded to define the invention or the application, which only is measured by the claims, nor is it intended to be limiting as to the scope of the invention in any way.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition for 20 protecting, dishlre~i~ing, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles and which has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles which may be e~ciently m~mlf~ctllred and marketed.
An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved composition for 5 protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles which is susceptible of a low cost of m~mlf~ctl1re with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the con~llming public, thereby making such composition available to the buying public.
Still yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved composition for protecting, disinfecting, degreasing, deodorizing and cleaning the surface of various articles and which is adapted to be topically applied to such articles in a ~l~,sparen~ liquid, easily sprayable form.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved composition that may be topically applied to various articles to add a non-greasy, fresh, clean and brightness to same.
These together with still other objects of the invention, along with the various features of novelty which char~cteri7e the invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims forming a part of this disclosure. For a better underst~n(ling of the invention, its operating advantages and the specific objects att~ined by its uses, reference should be made to the following detailed description 20 ofthe prt;relled embodiments ofthe invention.

Claims (17)
1. An organic composition useful as disinfectant, germicide, fungicide, insecticide, deodorant, degreaser and cleaner for carpet, rug, upholstery, kitchen's ventilation hood, ceramic tile, metal surface and dry wall.
2. The new and improved composition of claim 1 comprising, by weight of the total composition of:
a) 10 to 80% of blend of oils selected from the class consisting of mineral oil and other essential oils, b) 1 to 10% of co-solvent, and c) 10 to 40% of surfactants.

3. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, D'limonene in an amount up to 60% by weight of said composition.
4. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, D'limonene in an amount up to 50% by weight of said composition.
5. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, pine oil in an amount up to 20% by weight of said composition.
6. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, pine oil in an amount up to 15% by weight of said composition.
7. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, mineral oil in an amount up to 5% by weight of said composition.
8. The composition of claim 2 containing in addition to said oil, mineral oil in an amount up to 3% by weight of said composition.
9. The composition of claim 2 containing surfactants in an amount less than 40% by weight of said composition.
10. The composition of claim 2 containing co-solvent in an amount less than 10% by weight of said composition.
11. The composition of claim 9 containing wherein said surfactants comprises 10-15% of alkylphenoxypoly(oxyethylene)ethanols by weight of said composition.
12. The composition of claim 9 containing wherein said surfactants comprises 10-15% of Neodol Ethoxylates by weight of said composition.
13. The composition of claim 9 containing wherein said surfactants comprises 10-15% of Cocoamide DEA by weight of said composition.
14. The composition of claim 9 containing wherein said surfactants comprises 0.5-1% of Disodium Hexadecyldiphenyloxide Disulfonate by weight of said composition.
15. The composition of claim 9 containing wherein said surfactants comprises less than 0.5%
of Disodium Hexadecyldiphenyloxide Disulfonate by weight of said composition.

16. The composition of claim 10 containing wherein said co-solvent comprises 0.5-10% of isopropanol by weight of said composition.
