Abstract
This invention is designed for those who own small-to medium sized pets and who live in a house, apartment, or cottage with a standard sliding glass patio door to the outside. This Dog-Gone Door will allow pets to come and go as they please.
The Dog-Gone Door is easily installed without the use of tools into the existing track and door jamb of either a left or right hand standard sliding glass patio door. The patio door is then slid tightly against the Dog-Gone Door. Thus, the installation is complete.
This Dog-Gone Door is a vast improvement over existing pet doors which require a hole to be cut through the solid door of the house, and once this is done, it cannot be undone. The existing pet doors can alter their shape due to weather changes; shrinkage and expansion can occur thus causing frequent repairs. Also, should the owners go on vacation, their house is no longer secure as it was before this cut-through pet door was installed.
On the other hand, the Dog-Gone Door needs no tools or renovations to install, and it can be removed at will and taken with the owners should they decide to move to a new home.
The Dog-Gone Door allows the owners easy exit/entry access and permits an unrestricted view of their pets in the backyard, even during the severest weather as the door uses two Double Plexi-Glass Windows. The Upper Plexi-Glass Window sits inside its own track above a Framed Screen. The Lower Plexi-Glass Window sits inside the other half of this track and can be raised in warm weather, in order 2.
to supply fresh air to the house.
Below this Screen, the Dog-Gone Door has two Rubber-TypeMats with a dead air space between them. The top of those two Mats hang down freely toward the bottom of the door enabling the animal to come and go as it pleases.
On trial tests of the Dog-Gone Door, my dog quickly learned to go through his new doorway with ease, and when the door was removed, he appeared to be disappointed because he could no longer come and go as he pleased, but had to wait for the owners to let him out.
If the weather becomes too severe, (We have had the Dog-Gone Door installed when the temperature was -25C degrees, with no loss of heat or feelings of discomfort.) the Dog-Gone Door can be removed, stored, or taken with the owners to a new home leaving the house in its originally secure state.

SPECIFICATION
This invention relates to an easily installed pet door that fits securely into the upper and lower tracks of a standard glass sliding patio door.
Pet doors now in existence require a hole to be cut through the door of the house. This entails many tools, much labour, and usually, a skilled carpenter. The door of the house is now perman-ently altered, disfigured, and not as secure as it was originally.
The occupants could now have a problem selling their house if they decided to move. Also, away from the house for any length of time, the occupants might have cause to worry about a possible break-in.
My pet door invention does not have any of the above disad-vantages. The door is complete and is installed in seconds without the use of tools, renovations, or skilled help. It can be removed in seconds, stored, or taken to a new house that has a standard glass sliding patio door. Away from home, the occupants have no fear of a break-in because they can remove the pet door and store it in a clo-set or under the bed. If they decide to move, they can take the door along, leaving the house in its initial secure state.

"L", you will find three blocks. These blocks are all constructed in the same manner(see fig. 6) and are designed to snap into the top and bottom, or either side of the main I-Beam construction frame.(fig.4"S'~
By enabling "B" to snap into place on either side of the main door, the Dog-Gone Door can be inserted into any standard sliding door track and jamb, regardless of the way the existing sliding door trav-els.
On the four corners of the main door there are corner blocks "C" (fig. 5). The purpose of these corner blocks is to ensure that the main body of the door is held together by inserting the blocks "C"
into the I-Beams "sn.
Drawing "~' is the location of the Dog-~one Door's Double Plexi-Glass Windows. The top and bottom windows are assembled by a plastic frame with a dead air space between the panes(fig. 4,"I").
The plexi-glass windows sit inside and travel inside the vertical frame separators. (fig. 4,"D") These same frame separators(fig. 4,"D~) are then snapped into place inside the main door's I-Beams. (fig. 4, "S") The intent of this plan is to have the upper plexi-glass win-dow sit stationary over a screen (fig. 2 "X") inside the outermost vertical frame separators "D", and this will allow the lower plexi-glass window to be raised to an open position by travelling the full height of the innermost track of the vertical frame separator. (fig 2 and 4 "Dn) Fig. I shows "R". This is the location of the entrance and exit of the Double-Sided-Industrial Rubber Door. This door has a dead air space in the middle, using either wood or plastic blocks and swings 216938~
freely and easily in both directions. ~ See fig. 3 for exploded break down) The Rubber Matting (fig. 3, "R") is attached by screws to a block "B" which is snapped into an I-Beam "S" and which is part of the main door. The doorcan now swing freely as it is only fixed to its overhead block "B".
Next, in fig. 3, the hanging block "Q", is secured by screws to the bottom of the Rubber Matting. This design allows the Matting to hang v~rtically leaving a dead air space between the opposing Rub-ber Mats.
The hanging block "Q" has two magnets fixed on to it so that the Rubber Mats will not move out of its vertical position due to high winds.
The block below the Rubber Door Assembly(fig. 3,nK") has two metal strike plates that the magnets on the upper block "Q" engages when the door hangs down in its normal closed position. This block with the metal strike plates snaps into the lower I-Beam (fig. 3, "S") and is joined to the two lower corner blocks (fig. 3, "C") and is also connected to the two vertical I-Beams. (fig. 3, ~S") Fig. 4, "S" shows a view of the I-Beam. Four pieces of I-Beam can be cut to any desired length and then held together as a frame by use of the corner block. (fig. 5, "C") Fig. 4, "D" is a view of the Window Frame Separator. When the I-Beam frame of the door is constructed, these separators can be snapped into place on the inside perimeter of the door, thus allowing one track to house one fixed set of Double Plexi-Glass Windows that will sit above a fixed-screen insert. Fig. 4, n I" shows the final window frame. This frame can be cut to any length and will be used to secure two Plexi-Glass Win-dow Pan~s~ After the Plexi-Glass has been cut to size and installed into these frames, the frames can then be set into the window frame separators "D".
In short, the Plexi-Glass is secured into the slots of "I", then UI" is set into the tracks of "D", and "D" is then snapped into the channel in "S".
Fig. 6, "B" shows the Beam. This Beam snaps into the re-maining outer channels of the Dog-Gone Door. Before the Dog-Gone Door can be set into the owner's existing track and jamb, the Beam can be placed in either the right or left hand side of the door. By doing so, the side of the door insert that has the Beam installed can fit into the existing sliding patio door jamb. This leaves the other side of the door insert with an open channel in which the sliding patio door can now be moved over to, and into, the insert frame.
Fig. 6, "B" is also snapped into place on the top and bottom sections of the door insert. (fig. I, "T" and "L") This Beam has a "V" Groove cut down one end so that it can sit and rest on the exist-ing sliding patio door track.

In short, the Plexi-Glass is secured into the slots of "I", then UI" is set into the tracks of "D", and "D" is then snapped into the channel in "S".
Fig. 6, "B" shows the Beam. This Beam snaps into the re-maining outer channels of the Dog-Gone Door. Before the Dog-Gone Door can be set into the owner's existing track and jamb, the Beam can be placed in either the right or left hand side of the door. By doing so, the side of the door insert that has the Beam installed can fit into the existing sliding patio door jamb. This leaves the other side of the door insert with an open channel in which the sliding patio door can now be moved over to, and into, the insert frame.
Fig. 6, "B" is also snapped into place on the top and bottom sections of the door insert. (fig. I, "T" and "L") This Beam has a "V" Groove cut down one end so that it can sit and rest on the exist-ing sliding patio door track.
Claims (4)
- 7.
The embodiment of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
I. An easily installed and removable pet door that fits, tongue and groove--in seconds, into a standard sliding-glass patio door without the use of tools or changes to the existing standard sliding glass patio door. - 2. The pet door, as defined in claim I uses double transparent plexi-glass sheets which allow excellent visibility and insulation properties, particularly in frigid weather.
- 3. The pet door, as defined in claim I or claim 2 is easily transportable and can be removed, stored, or taken with the owner to a new home leaving the original home fully secured.
- 4. The pet door, as defined in claim I, claim 2, and claim 3 -- while installed, can be secured in place against the standard sliding glass patio door which can be locked, or left unlocked, permitting the owner easy exit or entrance by sliding the existing standard sliding-glass patio door to the side.
