6 u BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an attachment and a method of securing an attachment. The invention also relates to a coiled cable arrangement and a method of mounting an attachment on a coiled cable. The invention is particularly, although not exclusively applicable to attachments for coiled telephone cables. ;~
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to one aspect of the present invention an attachment includes a flexible generally planar attachment region having an opening generally spaced from the sides of the attachment, the attachment including a break leading from the opening to the side.
The break may comprise a slit and the slit may be formed by making a cut.
Each side of the break in the generally planar attachment region may be arranged to touch.
The planar region may be arranged to be flexed to open the break during engagement or disengagement of the attachment. The resilience of the flexible member may be arranged to urge the parts of the planar region back to tend to close the break upon opening thereof.

According to another aspect of the present invention a method of mounting an attachment on an article in which the attachment includes a flexible generally r -6 ~ ~
planar attachment region having an opening generally spaced from the sides of the attachment with the attachment further including a break leading from the opening to the side comprises opening the break and locating the attachment on the article with a part of the article extending through the opening.
The present invention also includes a method of mounting an attachment on an article in which the attachment is as herein referred to~
According to another aspect of the present invention a coiled cable arrangement includes an attachment mounted on a cable, the cable exerting a force on the attachment between coiled sections of the cable.
The attachment may include a generally planar region and the coiled sections may be arranged to exert a force on the sides or, alternatively, the front and back of the attachment.
The coiled sections of the cable that exert a force on the attachment may be adjacent.
The present invention also includes a coiled cable arrangement including an attachment as herein referred to mounted on a cable.
According to another aspect of the present invention a method of mounting an attachment on a coiled cable comprises arranging for the coils in the cable to exert a force on an attachment between coiled sections.
The attachment may comprise a tag.
The present invention includes any combination of the herein referred to features or limitations A ~ ~' , BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will now be described, by way of example and with reference to the accompanying ~
drawings in which: -Figure 1 is a front view of a tag 10, and Figure 2 is a front view of a telephone cable 11.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF
PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION
The tab 10 is a laminate of plastics which is ~:
able to retain its own shape and yet which is flexible.
That tab is approximately 1 mm thick and in the region of 10 X 30 mm in plan. The tab includes a cut-out portion or opening 12 in the region of 5 mm in diameter and a cut 13 leading from one side 14 of the tag to the opening 12.
Either the front face 15 or the back face 16 have useful information displayed thereon such as, without limitation, telephone numbers, addresses, or names of companies.
In use the tag lO is attached to the coiled cable 11 of a telephone by opening the coils of the cable slightly, flexing the plastics tag 10 so as to open up the -part of the plastics on ~either side of the cut 13, threading the cable through that opened gap until the opening 12 surrounds the cable and then releasing the coil :~ :
~ ` ` ` ` ` `
and tag such that the plastics resumes its generally planer shape. The side walls of the tag that define the opening 12 then prevent detachment of the tag from the cable.
The tag may also be held in place relative to the cable, or be assisted in being held on the cable by the coils of the cable ll exerting a force on the side 14 and the opposed side 17, if the plane of the tag is generally in the same extent as the longitudinal axis of the coils 11. Alternatively, if the plane of the tag is offset from the longitudinal extent of the coils, the coils may bear against the front and rear faces 15 and 16 to tend to exert a slight twisting force on the tag. That twisting force is resisted by the cable bearing against the sides of the tag that define the opening 12 to hold the tag firmly in place.
Although the cable that is shown in Figure 2 has a generally rectangular cross-section, it will be appreciated that the tag could equally well be affixed to a cable having ~ circular or any other cross-section.
