Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A recording and/or reproducing apparatus includes a first interlocking means for preventing the depressing of a record push button and the change-over into the recording mode from the reproducing mode; and a second interlocking means for putting the first interlocking means into its inactive state with the change-over into the recording mode, the second interlocking means being put into its inactive state only with the change-over into the stop mode. Once the apparatus is changed over into the recording mode, the recording push-button can be freely operated in any mode, unless the apparatus is again changed over into the stop mode.

)89~;3 BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention:
This invention relates to a recording and/or reproducing apparatus, and more particularly to a recording and/or reproducing apparatus which has a high operability, for example, for dictation and learning.
Description of the Prior Art:
Recently, students uses tape recorders for their learnings or language lesson. In the learnings, teachings of a teacher or lecturer are recorded on the magnetic tape in the tape recorder, the recorded teachings are reproduced from the magnetic tape in order that the student writes the teachings onto a note book or review the teachings.
In the recording operation, there are such cases that the magnetic tape is fast rewound or transported backwardly by a predetermined length, and -~

1~)t3~3'~3 fast forward push-button to put the tape recorder into the reproducing (forward) mode. And then, the tape recorder is put into the stop mode with the depressing of a stop push-button. The reproducing push-button is restored to its original position. Newly, both the recording push-button and the reproducing push-button are depressed to put the tape recorder into the record-ing mode.
When the magnetic tape has fast backwardly been transported in excess of the predetermined length, the signals recorded on the magnetic tape are monitored in the reproducing mode of the tape recorder, and the predetermined position of the magnetic tape is found out. And in order to record new information on the magnetic tape from the predetermined position thereof, it is required that the stop push-button is depressed to put the tape recorder into the stop mode and to restore the reproducing push-button to its original position, and that newly both the record push-button and, the reproducing push-button are depressed to put the tape recorder into the recording mode.
As above described, when the magnetic tape is fast backwardly or forwardly transported by the predetermined length, and the tape recorder is again put into the reproducing mode, it is required to frequently depress the push buttons. That is troublesome, ~ -particularly when a rapid operation is necessitated, for example, in the dictating operation.
A tape recorder has been proposed in which the above described operation is electrically effected 1~)89~ 3 under the use of plungers, relays and so on. However, such a tape recorder is expensive and so is not popular.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, it is one object of this invention is to provide a recording and/or reproducing apparatus which overcomes the above disadvantages of the conventional tape recorder, and superior in operability.
Another object of this invention is to provide a recording and/or reproducing apparatus which can be rapidly and simply changed over into the cue mode or review mode from the recording mode and again into the recording mode from the cue mode or the review mode. ;
A further object of this invention is to provide a recording and/or reproducing apparatus in which a -~
record push-button can be freely operated in any mode unless a stop push-button is depressed, once the apparatus is put into the recording mode.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a recording and/or reproducing apparatus in which expensive relays and plungers are not used, and ;~
which is inexpensive and suitable for a dictating operation.
In accordance with an aspect of this invention, a recording and/or reproducing apparatus includes a first interlocking means for preventing the depressing of a record push-button and the change-over into the . .. , - .

More particularly, there is provided:
A recording and/or reproducing apparatus compris-ing a push-button assembly including a forward push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for estab-lishing a reproducing mode of operation of the apparatus, a record push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for establishing a recording mode of operation of the apparatus upon disposition of said forward push-button in said active position of the latter, and a stop push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for restoring the apparatus to a stop mode; first interlocking means operative to prevent actuation of said record~Fush-button to-its active position after said forward push-button has been actuated to said active position of the ~atter and thereby normally inhibiting change-over of the apparatus directly from its reproducing mode of operation to its recording mode of OpBra~ion; second interlocking means operative in response to establishing of said recording mode of operation to disable said first interlocking means and thereafter permit actuation of said record push-button to its active position with said forward push-button already in said active position of the latter, and means responsive to the restoration of the apparatus to said stop model thereof for disabling said second interlocking means, The above and other objects, features and advantages of this invention will become apparent from -the following detailed description of illustrative embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Fig. 1 shows push-button assembly 1 of a tape recorder according to one embodiment of this invention. The assembly 1 has a rewind push-button 2, . .

in the frame 7 in the outward direction or to inactive position. Further, the push-buttons 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 define lock projections 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a and 6a respectively at the tops of the push buttons. The lock projections 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a and 6a have the same size and the same shape each other.
Faced to these lock projections 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a and 6a, is arranged a lock plate 9. And this lock plate 9 is ~otatably supported by the frame 7 and urged by a coil spring 8a and a torsion spring 8b in the clock-wise direction or in the direction shown by the arrow A in Fig. 1. This lock plate 9 defines detents 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. These detents 10, 12, 13, and 14 are designed to be engageable with the lock portions 2a, 4a, 5a and 6a respectively to lock the push-buttons 2, 4, 5 and 6 at the active pos~tions. Fiy. 1 shows the lock plate 9 opened so that the details of the push-button assembly 1 can be easily understood, but in fact the lock plate 9 is closed by the urging force of the spring 8a.
On end of the torsion spring 8b is engaged with a pin mounted at the side edge of the lock plate 9, and the other end of the torsion spring 8b contacts with the top of the record push-button 6 as shown in Fig. 2.
Therefore, when the record push-button 6 is pushed, the torsion spring 8b urges the lock plate 9 through the pin in the direction shown by the arrow`A. And when this torsion spring 8b does not function, the lock plate 9 can be maintained in semi-lock condition, because the urging force of the coil spring 8a is relatively small.

5~3 Among the detents 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, the detent 11 corresponding with the lock projection 3a is the highest, and this detent 11 can not lock the lock projection 3a with the predetermined depressing of the stop push-button 3. The detent 12 corresponding with the lock projection 4a is lower than the detent 11 but is higher than the other detents 10, 13 and 14.
The detents 10 and 13 corresponding respectively with the lock projections 2a and 5a are lower than the detents 11 and 12, but are higher than the detents 14. The detent 14 corresponding with the lock projection 6a is the lowest. Accordingly, the stop push-button 3 can release the lock of the lock projections 2a, 4a, 5a and 6a which are respectively engaged with the detents 10, ~ -12, 13 and 14. Further, the rewind push-button 2 or the .
fast forward push-button 5 can release the lock of the lock projection 6a engaged with the detent 14, but can -not release the lock of the lock projection 4a engaged with the detent 12, in the recording mode.
Next, the change-over mechanism of this tape recorder relating to the push-buttons 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be described with reference to ~ig. 3. A recording slide 15 is slidably supported, and one end of this slide 15 is faced to the top of the record push-button 6, whereby the slide 15 is moved when the push button 6 is pushed. The other end of the slide 15 is connected with a lever 16. This lever 16 is supported rotatably by a pin 17 and urged by a torsion spring 18 in the counter-clockwise direction in Fig. 3. One end of a rod 19 is connected with this lever 16, and the other end of this .:

The projection of the slide 20 defines a cut-out portion 21 which can receive the other end of this rod 19. The detecting slide 20 is slidably supported, and urged in the upward direction shown by the arrow in Fig. 3 by a spring 23.
Further,this slide 20 defines a detecting member 22 which detects the flangeble tab in the aperture of the rear wall of the tape cassette. When the detecting member 22 detects the flangeble tab of the tape cassette, the detecting member 22 contacts with this tab to prevent the slide 20 from sliding. Then, since the cut-out portion 21 faces to the other end of the rod 19, the record push-button 6 related with the slide 15, the lever 16 and the rod 19 can be pushed and this tape recorder is changed over into the recording move.
On the contrary, when the flangeble tab of the cassette is taken away from the aperture, and the aperture is unobstructed in the rear wall of the cassette housing, the detecting member 22 enters into this aperture, and the slide 20 is moved upward by the urging force -of the spring 23. Then, the other end of the rod 19 does not face to the cut-out portion 21 of the detecting slide 20, and the movement of the rod 19 in the left-ward direction is prevented by the projection of the slide 20. Thereby, the pushing operation of the recording button 6 is prevented through the rod 19, the lever 16 and the slide 15 to prevent the inadvertent erasure of the previously recorded information of the tape contained within the tape cassette.

~ 8 -1~89S~i3 The recording slide 15 defines a cut-out portion 24 nearly at its center, and this slide 15 is connected with a connecting lever 25. This lever is connected with an intermediate lever 26. Further, this lever 26 is connected with an intermediate arm 27. An erasing head 29 is supported by a supporting arm 30 which defines a downward projection.... An actuating lever 28, fixed -to the intermediate arm 27, contacts with the downward projection of the supporting arm 30. Accordingly, when the record push-button 6 is pushed and so the recording slide 15 moves downwards, the erasing head 29 moves to the active position through the connecting lever 25, --the intermediate lever 26, the intermediate arm 27, the actuating lever 28 and the supporting arm 30.
A fast forward slide 31 is slidably arranged, and the top of the slide 31 is opposite to the top of the fast forward push-button 5, to move this slide 31 when the fast forward push-button 5 is pushed. And the fast forward slide 31 is connected with a connecting lever 32. One end of this connecting lever 32 is connected with an idler operating slide 33. This idler operating slide 33 is related to an idler change-over mechanism. Therefore, when the fast forward push-button 5 is pushed, the slide 31 is moved to change over idlers (not shown) through the connecting lever 32 and the idler operating slide 33.
Faced to the top of the forward push-button 4, is provided a forward slide 34, to be slided when the forward push-button 4 is pushed. The forward slide 34 _ g _ .,...
' 1~1895~,3 defines a projection which engages with the upper edge of a head chassis 35. This head chassis 35 supports a recording-reproducing head 36 and a pinch roller 37.
Therefore, when the forward push-button 4 is pushed, the forward slide 34 moves downward to slide the head chassis 35 and the head 36 contacts with the magnetic tape held in the tape cassette, and the pinch roller 37 presses the magnetic tape against a capstan (not shown).
Faced to the top of the rewind push button 2, a rewind slide 38 is provided. This slide 38 defines a triangular cut-out portion 39, and this cut-out portion 39 receives a pin which is mounted at one end of an idler operating lever 40. This idler operating lever 40 is rotatably supported by a pin 41 and the other end of this lever 40 is connected to the idler operating slide 33. Accordingly, when the rewind push button 2 is pushed, the rewind slide 38 moves downward to rotate the lever 40, and the movement of this lever 40 is transmitted to the idler operating slide 33 to change over the idlers. -Further, faced to the tops of the forward push~button 4, the rewind push-button 2 and the fast forward push button 5, is arranged a brake-releasing slide 42. At the top of the slide 42, a brake lever 47 is rotatably supported. A pair of brake pads 45 and 46 are provided at both ends of this brake lever 47, and these brake pads 45 and 46 are opposite to peripheral surfaces of respective reel drive tables 43 and 44. l~9tj~3 the brake-releasing slide 42 mo~es downward and the brake pads 45 and 46 are kept away from the peripheral surfaces of the respective reel drive tables 43 and 44.
Next, interlocking arrangements of this tape recorder will be described. The first interlocking arrangement comprises the cut-out portion 24 defined on the recording slide 15, and a first interlocking slide 50 which transversely extends and is slidably ~;
supported by a pair of pins 48 fitted to the respective oblong holes 49. One end of the first interlocking slide 50 is opposite to the cut-out portion 24 of the recording slide 15.
The second interlocking arrangement comprises a cut-out portion 51 defined on the first interlocking slide 50, and a second interlocking slide 52 which extends perpendicularly to the first interlocking slide 50 and is slidably supported by a pin 54 fitted into an oblong hole 53. One end of the second interlocking slide 52 is opposite to the cut-out portion 51 of the first interlocking slide 50. Further, the second interlocking slide 52 defines a triangular projection 55. And this projection 55 has a slant 55a which contacts with one end of an interlock-releasing slide 58 transversely extending and slidably supported by a pair of pins 56 fitted into the oblong holes 57 of the slide 58. The interlock-releasing slide 58 is urged by a spring 59 in the rightward direction in Fig. 3.
A slant 6Oa of a bent actuating portion 60 of the interlock-releasing slide 58 engages with one end of a stop slide 61, the other end of which is faced to the 1089S1~3 of the stop push-button 3.
The first interlocking slide 50 is connected with the forward slide 34 through a torsion spring 62 supported by a pin 63, to move the slide 50 in the rightward direction in Fig. 3 by the pushing operation of the forward push-button 4. Further, the second inter-locking slide 52 is connected with the recording slide 15 through a torsion spring 64 supported by a pin 65, to move the slide 52 in the upward direction in Fig. 3 by the pushing operation of the record push-button 6.
Next, operations of this tape recorder constructed ~ -as described above will be described.
Before the recording operation for the dictation, the tape recorder is in the stop mode where any one of the push-button is not pushed, as shown in Fig. 3.
In this stop mode, when the forward push-button 4 is pushed, the tape recorder is changed over into the forward mode or the play back mode. And in accordance with the pushing operation of the forward push-button ; 20 4, the forward slide 34 moves downward as shown in Fig. 4, and this movement of the slide 34 is transmitted to the first interlocking slide 50 through the torsion spring 62. Therefore, the first interlocking slide 54 slides rightward in Fig. 4, and the top of the first interlocking slide 50 engages with the cut-out portion 24 of the recording slide 15. Accordingly, the recording slide 15 is locked, and the pushing operation of the record push-button 6 is prevented.
Next, the recording operation will be described. -In the stop mode, when the forward push-button 4 and the ::

1~895~i3 record push-button 6 are simultaneously pushed, or when the record push-button 4 is pushed and then the forward push-button 6 is pushed, the tape recorder is changed over into the recording mode as shown in Flg. S.
According to the pushing operation of the record push-button 6, the recording slide 15 moves downward in Fig. 5. This movement of the recording slide 15 is transmitted to the second interlocking slide 52 to slide this second interlocking slide 52 upwards in Fig. 5 through the torsion spring 64. Further, according to the pushing operation of the forward push button 4, the forward slide 34 moves downward in Fig. 5, and the first interlocking slide 50 moves rightward through the torsion spring 62. By the above described movements of the second interlocking slide 52 and the first interlocking slide 50, the cut-out portion Sl of the first interlocking slide 50 receives the top of the second interlocking slide 52. Therefore, is prevented the engagement of the cut-out portion 24 of the recording slide 15 with the top of the first interlocking slide 50. Accordingly, the recording slide is not locked, and the pushing operation of the record push-button 6 is permitted unless the record push-button 6 is locked in the push-button assembly. When the lock of the record push-button 6 is released, the tape recorder is changed over into the forward mode from the recording mode.
Next, the re-recording operation of this recorder by rewinding the tape will be described.

' 9S~;3 push-button 6 locked by the detent 14 which is lower than the detent lO corresponding to the rewind push button 2 is released by the slight rotation of the lock plate 9 in accordance with the pushing operation of the rewind push-button 2 as shown in Fig. 6. But the forward push button 4 is not released, because the detent 12 which locks the forward push-button 4 is higher than the detent lO. Further, the urging force of the torsion spring 8b against the lock plate 9 is released in accordance with the releasing of the lock of the record push-button 6. Then, the loc~ plate 9 is urged only by the coil spring 8a. The urging force of the coil spring 8a is balanced with the frictional force between the lock projection 4a of the forward push button 4 and the detent 12. Accordingly, the lock plate 9 is kept in half way, (semi-locking condition), and does not ~otate perfectly in the direction shown by the arrow A in Fig. 1. Therefore, the forward push-button 4 corresponding to the higher detent 12 is locked, but -the rewind push-button 2 corresponding to the lower detent lO is not locked. And the tape recorder is changed over into the review mode.
In the review mode, the tape in the tape cassette is rewinded, and the cue signal is monitored by the recording-reproducing head 36. When the starting position, whereon the re-recording starts, is detected by the cue signal, the finger is kept away from the rewind push-button 2. Then, the rewind push-button 2 is released and restored ~-to its inactive position, because the rewind push-button 2 is not locked by the lock plate 9. And the tape ~ -10~9~;3 recorder is changed over into the forward mode or the play back mode. In this forward mode, the top of the second interlocking slide 52 is received in the cut-out portion 51 of the first interlocking slide 50, and so the first interlocking arrangement does not function to lock the recording slide 50. That is, the top of the first interlocking slide 50 can not be received by the cut-out portion 24 of the recording slide 15, and the recording slide 15 is not locked. Accordingly, when the record push-button 6 is pushed in this forward mode, the tape recorder is directly changed over into the recording mode. And in accordance with the pushing operation of the record push-button 6, the torsion spring 8b urges the lock plate 9 in the direction shown by the arrow A in Fig. 1, therefore the record push-button 6 is locked by the lock plate 9 as shown in Fig. 2.
In the conventional tape recorder, the recording mode can not be achieved directly from the forward mode by the pushing operation of the record push-button -6. But in this tape recorder, as described above, the recording mode can be achieved directly from the ; forward mode by the pushing operation of the record push button 6, while the second interlocking arrangement is in active state. Therefore, this tape recorder is very convenient specially for the dictation.
In this recording mode, when the stop push-button 3 is pushed, the lock plate 9 rotates against the urging force of the coil spring 8a and the torsion spring 8b, and the locks of the forward push-button 4 , ~ . . .

- -l'Ol~9Sti3 and the record push-button 6 are released, and this tape recorder is changed over into the stop mode.
Further, by the forward movement of the stop slide 61, the top of the stop slide 61 pushes the slant 60a of the interlock-releasing slide 58 to move this releasing slide 58 in the leftward direction in Fig. 6 against the urging force of the spring 59. Then, the top of the interlock-releasing slide 58 is kept away from the projection of the second interlocking slide 52. Accordingly, the second interlocking slide 52 moves downwards in Fig. 6 by the torsion spring 64, and the top of the second interlocking slide 52 and the cut-out portion 51 of the first interlocking slide is disengaged from each other.
Whereby, the second interlocking arrangement is changed over into the inactive state.
Still more, this tape recorder can also be used in the normal operation, when this tape recorder is used except for detection.
While there have been described preferred embodiments of the invention, obviously modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teachings. ~ ~

of the appended claims, the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.

Claims (16)

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY
OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus compris-ing a push-button assembly including a forward push-button actu-able from a rest position to an active position for establish-ing a reproducing mode of operation of the apparatus, a record push-button actuable from a rest position to an active posi-tion for establishing a recording mode of operation of the apparatus upon disposition of said forward push-button in said active position of the latter, and a stop push-button actuable from a rest positon to an active position for restor-ing the apparatus to a stop mode; first interlocking means operative to prevent actuation of said record push-button to its active position after said forward push-button has been actuated to said active position of the latter and thereby normally inhibiting change-over of the apparatus directly from its reproducing mode of operation to its recording mode of operation; second interlocking means operative in response to establishing of said recording mode of operation to disable said first interlocking means and thereafter permit actuation of said record push-button to its active position with said forward push-button already in said active position of the latter; and means responsive to the restoration of the appara-tus to said stop model thereof for disabling said second inter-locking means.
2. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 1; further comprising a record actuating slide movable from an inoperative position to an operative position with the actuation of said record push-button from said rest position to said active position of the latter; and in which said first interlocking means includes a first interlocking slide urged to locking and releasing positions thereof in response to the disposition of said forward push-button in said active and rest positions, respectively, of the latter, and engaging means on said record actuating slide engageable by said first interlocking slide when the latter is displaced to said locking position thereof with said record actuating slide in said inoperative position of the latter so as to prevent actuation of said record push-button to its active position.
3. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 2; in which said engaging means on the record actuating slide defines a keeper recess opening laterally in respect to the direction of movement of said record actuating slide between said inoperative and operative positions of the latter, said first interlocking slide is movable between said locking and releasing positions thereof in a direction sub-stantially at right angles to said direction of movement of said record actuating slide, and an end of said first inter-locking slide is received in said keeper recess when said first interlocking slide is displaced to said locking position with said record actuating slide in said inoperative position.
4. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus according to claim 2; in which said second interlocking means includes a second interlocking slide urged to locking and releasing posi-tions thereof in response to the disposition of said record actuating slide in said operative and inoperative positions, respectively, of the latter, engaging means on said first inter-locking slide engageable by said second interlocking slide when the latter is displaced to said locking position thereof with said first interlocking slide in said releasing position of the latter for holding said first interlocking slide in said releasing position thereof against the urging of said first interlocking slide to said locking position thereof in response to a subsequent actuation of said forward push-button to its active position, and holding means engageable with said second interlocking slide in said locking position of the latter for thereafter holding said second interlocking slide in said locking position thereof irrespective of the position of said record actuating slide; and in which said means for disabling said second interlocking means includes a stop actuating slide operative to release said holding means from said second interlocking slide in response to actuation of said stop push-button to said active position of the latter.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus according to claim 4; in which said engaging means on said first inter-locking slide defines a keeper recess opening laterally in respect to the direction of movement of said first interlocking slide between said locking and releasing positions, said second interlocking slide is movable between said locking and releas-ing positions thereof in a direction substantially at right angles to said direction of movement of said first interlock-ing slide, and an end of said second interlocking slide is received in said keeper recess of said second interlocking slide when the latter is displaced to said locking position thereof with said first interlocking slide in said releasing position of the latter.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 5; in which said holding means includes a nose extending laterally from said second interlocking slide in respect to the direction of movement of the latter between its locking and releasing positions, and a holding slide movable in a direction substantially at right angles to said direction of movement of the second interlocking slide and being spring urged toward the latter for engaging said nose in said locking position of said second interlocking slide, said holding slide having a surface thereon extending obliquely in respect to said direction of movement of the holding slide and being en-gageable by said stop actuating slide for movement of said holding slide away from said second interlocking slide in re-sponse to said actuation of the stop push-button to said ac-tive position thereof.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus according to claim 4; further comprising a forward actuating slide mov-able from an inoperative position to an operative position with the actuation of said forward push-button from said rest position to said active position of the latter, and first and second spring means respectively connecting said forward actuating slide with said first interlocking slide and said record actuating slide with said second interlocking slide.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus according to claim 1; in which said push-button assembly further in-cludes at least one additional push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for establishing another respective mode of operation of the apparatus, a latching plate having detents respectively corresponding to said record, forward and other push-buttons, keepers on said record, forward and additional push-buttons and each being engageable by the respective detent on said latching plate when the respective push-button is actuated to its active position for retaining said respective push-button in said active position thereof, and means yieldably urging said latching plate in one direction for effecting the engagement of said detents with the respec-tive keepers, said latching plate being movable in the oppo-site direction for releasing said detents from the respective keepers, said detents and the respective keepers being shaped to effect respective displacements of said latching plate in said opposite direction in the course of the movement of the respective push-button to said active position thereof, said displacements of the latching plate in response to movement of said forward and additional push-buttons, respectively, to their respective active positions being greater than said displacement of the latching plate in response to movement of said record push-button to its active position so that said detent corresponding to said record push-button is released from the respective keeper upon actuation of any one of said forward and additional push-buttons to its active position.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 8; in which said latching plate and said stop push-button have engageable means thereon effecting a dis-placement of said latching plate in said opposite direction in response to actuation of said stop push-button to its active position which is greater than any of said displacements of the latching plate effected by said detents and respective keepers so that each of said detents corresponding to said forward, record and additional push-buttons is released from the respec-tive keeper upon actuation of said stop push-button to its active position.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 9; in which each of said keepers is constituted by a projection extending substantially normal to the direction of movement of the respective push-button between its rest and active positions, and each of said detents includes a ramp surface having at least a portion thereof inclined relative to said latching plate and terminating in a shoulder so that each said projections rides along said ramp surface of the respec-tive detent for effecting the respective displacement of said latching plate and then engages the respective shoulder upon actuation of the respective push-button to its active position.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 10; in which said engageable means for effecting said displacement of the latching plate in response to actua-tion of the stop push-button includes a projection extending substantially normal to the direction of movement of said stop push-button, and a ramp surface having at least a portion inclined relative to said latching plate and being still engaged by said projection associated with the stop push-button in said active position of the latter.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 10; in which said displacement of the latching plate in said opposite direction in response to movement of said forward push-button to said active position of the latter is greater than said displacements of the latching plate in response to movement of said record and additional push-buttons to their respective active positions so that said detent cor-responding to said forward push-button is releasable from the respective keeper only in response to actuation of said stop push-button to its active position.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 10; in which said means yieldably urging said latching plate in said one direction includes first spring means continuously acting on said latching plate and applying a relatively weak force to the latter in said one direction which is insufficient to overcome the frictional resistance to move-ment of the latching plate in said one direction resulting from the engagement of said shoulder of one of said detents with the respective projection, and second spring means selectively acting on said latching plate for applying a re-latively strong force to the latter in said one direction.
14. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 13; further comprising means for causing said second spring means to apply said relatively strong force to said latching plate only in response to actuation of said record push-button to said active position of the latter.

A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 9; in which said at least one additional push-button includes a rewind push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for establishing a rewind mode of operation of the apparatus, and a fast-forward push-button actuable from a rest position to an active position for establishing a fast-forward mode of operation of the apparatus.
16. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus accord-ing to claim 1; in which said push-button assembly further includes rewind and fast-forward push-buttons selectively actuable from a rest position to an active position for es-tablishing rewind and fast-forward modes of operation, respec-tively, of the apparatus; and latching means for selectively retaining each of said record, forward, rewind and fast-forward push-buttons in the respective active position, said latching means being released as to all of said record, for-ward, rewind and fast-forward push-buttons in response to actuation of said stop push-button, said latching means being released as to said record push-button upon actuation of a selected one of said rewind and fast-forward push-buttons, and said latching means being made inoperative to retain said rewind and fast-forward push-buttons in their respective active positions when said forward push-button is in said active po-sition of the latter.
