<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Method and device for operating a heater for wind or other gaseous fluids,
The present invention relates to a method and a device for operating a wind heater or any other gaseous fluid heater. It relates more particularly to a method for improving the efficiency of a blast furnace heater. (cowper) as well as a device for implementing this method.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Blast furnace wind heaters can be divided into two broad categories: devices with combustion wells, separate or incorporated, and devices without wells. The cowpers according to the invention relate to this second category, in which the combustion chamber is provided under the dome,
Methods of driving cowpers without wells have long been known, consisting in introducing the heating gas and the combustion air at the top of the cup or laterally below it. Experience has shown, however, that these arrangements do not allow complete combustion of the gases under the dome, and that this combustion continues in the upper part of the stacks.
This constitutes a serious drawback with regard to the life of the refractories for the ruchage.
To remedy these drawbacks, it has been proposed to place the burners in a circular flue situated between the beehive and the dome, the burners being horizontal and tangent on the outside to the beehive. This arrangement has been considered to lengthen the path of the hot gases and thus allow complete combustion. In this case, the strength of the stacks is improved, but that of the refractories of the dome is greatly reduced. In addition, this arrangement requires a dome of large diameter, easy to perform.
The object of the present invention is a method making it possible to remedy these drawbacks and to ensure complete combustion of the gases, while improving the resistance of the refractories, both in the stacks and in the dome.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The method, object of the invention, is essentially characterized in that one brings separately, through at least one pipe, on the one hand a gaseous fuel in at least one flue, on the other hand air. or combustion oxygen in at least one flue, said flues being located at the lower part of the dome. Through orifices drilled in the walls of the flues towards the interior of the chamber and preferably distributed uniformly over the length of the flues, the combustible gases and the combustion gases are introduced under the dome and brought into contact. intimate, so as to allow rapid and complete combustion of the gas in the immediate vicinity of these orifices.
A subject of the present invention is also a device for implementing this method. This device consists essentially of a cowper device fitted, at a certain height above the beehive, with at least two flues placed close to one another and following, at least in part, the contour. of the outer shell of the dome. Each of these flues is pierced, towards the interior of the combustion chamber, with a series of orifices distributed preferably uniformly over the length of the flues and intended to introduce either the fuel or the oxidizer into the combustion chamber.
These orifices are advantageously arranged in such a way that, with each orifice delivering fuel, there is a corresponding orifice delivering oxidant, each pair of orifices constituting a burner.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
@
The flues are advantageously made of bricks or of ceramic materials capable of withstanding high temperatures, of the order of 1300 ° C. or more, so as to minimize their thermal degradation.
A preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention consists in placing two flues one above the other, along two horizontal planes. In this case, the outlets of the upper flue can be horizontal, and those of the lower flue oriented from bottom to top and towards the interior of the combustion chamber, so as to have neighboring outlets which constitute the burner. . The axes of the ducts constituting a burner are advantageously located in the same vertical plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the cowper, so as to form a radial flame.
The characteristics of this series of burners, that is to say their number, their passage section, their shape
L and their orientation, as well as the pressure of the combustible and oxidizing gaseous fluids, are determined so as to obtain complete combustion before the fumes enter the beehive.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly and will be better understood, with reference to the drawings, in which: FIG. 1 represents a diametrical vertical section of a cowper according to the invention, and .. the figure 2 shows a horizontal section of the same cowper, at the level of the upper flue.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In these figures, 1 denotes the beehive of the cowper, above which are installed the gas flue 2 and the air flue 3. These flues open into the combustion chamber 4 through a double series of orifices. They are supplied with combustible and oxidizing gas, respectively through pipes 6 and 7. During the "gas' period, the burners operate and distribute the heat of combustion uniformly in the beehive 1. During the" windward "period, the burners burners are stopped and the hot wind is discharged through line 5,
This description makes it possible to realize the simplicity of construction of the cowper according to the invention.
The installation does not require any particular arrangement as for the placement of mechanical burners, the adjustment of which can always be delicate. In addition, it will be noted that the installation of the flues for gaseous fluids is carried out optimally. In fact, they are located outside the zones of mechanical stress, created by: 1) the expansion of the beehive and the mantle upwards; 2) the weight of the refractory lining the dome.
In this way, the flues are practically free from any mechanical stress and have a very long service life.
The arrangement of the ceramic burners according to the invention provides yet other advantages as regards the resistance of the refractories. In fact, the orifices are situated at a certain height above the beehive and the burners are distributed. uniformly on the periphery of the flanges; therefore, the heat of combustion is distributed
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
uniformly over the entire surface of the beehive, which ensures better heat transmission. In addition, the distance existing between the ceramic burners and the dome, is such that the refractories thereof are not subjected to the direct action of the flames; their lifespan is thus extended.
Finally, ceramic burners are indifferent to the heating caused by radiation from the cup.
