Improvements to wire drawing machines
The present invention relates to wire drawing machines and, more particularly, those with several wire drawing hostages. It is desirable to be able to adjust the. speed of rotation of the various drums and the present invention has noted for its object to provide an improved device for effecting this adjustment. The invention also aims to provide a device for applying a predetermined counter-tension when it is desires * embodying the present invention, in a wire drawing machine with several wire drawing stages,
an adjustment device is provided comprising an arm supporting an adjustment pulley around
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
from which the wire passes between an adjacent drum and a following pulley leading the wire into the next die, the adjusting pulley being moved to take up slack and, if necessary, to tension the wire by means of a fluid cylinder , and the movement of the adjusting pulley being coupled to a regulator for adjusting the speed of the motor which drives the drum.
Embodiments of the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which! Fig. 1 is a plan view of a drawing machine according to the invention; Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively side and end elevational views of the machine shown in FIG. FIG. 4 is a diagram of a control system for a wire drawing machine according to the invention; and Fig. 5 is a diagram of an alternative control system.
In figs. 1, 2 and 3 the wire drawing machine has three drums in line 1 - of which only two are shown * Dies 2 associated with each drum form an angle with the line of the drums and include pulleys 3 placed near their inlets to introduce the wire 4 in the dies * The wire, between a block 2 and the following return pulley 3, passes around an adjustment pulley 5 maintained on an arm o fixed to a shaft 7 which carries a second arm 8 articulated to the piston d '' a pneumatic cylinder 9.
Pressurized air is introduced into the cylinder so that the adjusting pulley moves to tension the wire. If the drum spins too quickly, the resulting excess wire allows the adjustment pulley 5 to move back and, therefore, to adjust a read motor governor which is coupled by a belt 11 to a pulley 12 on the shaft 7. The regulator 10 is mounted so as to slow down the drive motor of a drum (not shown) in order to obtain
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a balance with the drum rotating at the correct speed.
Voltage. applied to the wire can be set over a * wide range by adjusting the force exerted by the pneumatic cylinder,
EMI3.1
This means that by choosing the section of the cylinder and adjusting the air pressure, in a counter-tension drawing, the force is relatively high and it is desirable that the tension be constant to all positions of the adjustment pulley.
The pulley 5 moves along an arc 13, the extreme rear position of which is shown at 5 'and the path of the wire at 4', It can be seen that

the angle subtended by the wire in position 4 'is inside that of position 4 and, consequently, to obtain the same.

'* - 1 "*' # * <*, making the # SéplaCiiuient of the * -feras which carries the adjustment pulley, the pressure ae f3 $ lde ', in the cylinder normally changes as a result of a variation of the feather caused by a displacement of the piston.
The pressure of the fluid is prevented from varying by means of a suitable control device incorporated in the pressure regulating valve 15 which maintains a predetermined pressure, indicated on a pressure gauge 22, against a pressure in the valve. - rin which goes up or down * Un thus obtains a constant force exerted by the fluid cylinder and thus a constant tension in the wire.
Fig. 5 represents an embodiment in which the damping is obtained by means of a restrictor 23 which controls the flow of air supplying the jack 9 and leaving the latter.
The selector valve 16 makes it possible to bypass the regulator 15 and the choke by means of a pipe 24 when a rapid movement of the arm is necessary.
One can of course use hydraulic cylinders instead of pneumatic cylinders by incorporating the usual modifications such as a return line for hydraulic fluid, as shown in dotted lines at 25.
