Improvements in or relating to door hinges "
The present invention relates to doors and the manner in which the hinge attachment is formed by elements integral with or attached to one end of the door and rotatingly engaging with elements attached to the adjacent door jamb. .
The known device described above has certain drawbacks, in particular in the case of iron doors which must be fitted between door jambs which may be of wood, concrete or bricks with non-standard spacing and which often offer difficulties when it is necessary to fit doors of standardized dimensions between them.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction or arrangement designed so as to avoid the difficulties mentioned in the preceding paragraph and to allow adjustment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the fixings by hinges so as to adapt to the variations of spacing between the door risers,
According to the invention, a door device comprises hinge elements for a door pillar characterized in that the hinge elements are mounted on the door so that they can be adjusted independently in the vertical direction and in the horizontal direction with respect to the end of the door, so that a door can be fitted between the door jambs regardless of the spacing of these jambs.
The appended drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
In these drawings
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing part of the door and its hinge fixing,
Figure 2 is an elevational view, on a larger scale, showing one of the hinge elements, and
Figure 3 is a plan view taken along the line A-B of Figure 2.
In the embodiment shown, an iron door 1 comprises an end part 2 directed at right angles to the main part of the door and provided with a slot 3 extending substantially over its entire height. The end piece 2 can be integral with the whole of the door or it can be welded to it or fixed in another way.
The door constituted as described above is mounted so as to pivot about hinge pins 4 carried by hinges or supports 5 fixed to a door jamb 6. The sleeves, rings or hinge rings 7 are carried by the ends of two bolts 8 which pass through the slot 3 of the end piece 2 of the door and each bolt carries a U-shaped clamp 9 (see figure 3), the two clamps facing each other and being conformed. and sized to engage on

edged them outside of the split end piece 2 of the door.
The bolts 8 also each carry a nut 10 bearing against a washer 11 which itself bears against the outer faces of the U-shaped clamps 9.
In order to be able to adapt a door of standardized size, constructed and equipped as described above, between two door jambs, the nuts 10 are unscrewed so that each bolt 8 can be moved horizontally in the slot 3 until reaching a position in which its sleeve or eye 7 can be engaged on the corresponding hinge pin @ 4 while ensuring that the tenon or equivalent fastening device is at the opposite end of the door can functionally engage in the additional device of the adjacent door pillar.
When this is achieved, the wrenches 10 are tightened so as to lock the U-shaped clamps 9 in position on the door end piece 2. The arrangement is such that each pair of clamps 9 in the form of a U can also go up and down along the slotted end piece 2 of the door in order to make the sleeves or eyes 7 occupy the correct vertical positions allowing them to engage on the hinge pins 4 whose vertical spacing may vary depending on the different shapes of door jambs.
The width of the slot 3 of the door end piece 2 is slightly larger than the diameter of each bolt so that one bolt can be slightly offset sideways from the other bolt, in case the pins hinge are not strictly aligned in the vertical direction.
Although the invention has been described more especially in the case where the hinge pins are mounted on a door jamb, it can also be applied in the case where the ends of the bolts 8 are provided with pins directed downwards and desti - killed to penetrate and to pivot in sleeves integral with the @ @@@ both door 6.
