To prepare this composition, components A and B which form the base are melted and mixed and component C is dissolved with stirring in the melt to ensure homogeneity. :
The melt is then molded into suppositories, cooled and hardened.
The compositions according to the invention comprising chloromethyl-5-nitro-2-furyl ketone and presented, for example, in the form of suppositories as described above by way of illustration for combating vulvovaginitis advantageously contain a small amount of an acid such as hydrochloric acid to obtain a slightly acidic medium. It is generally believed that vaginal infections are due, in part, to displacement; from the normal pH of the vagina to the alkaline side, and that this change in pH complicates these infections. Maintaining an acidic pH is therefore advantageous for the treatment of vaginal infections in order to establish, as far as possible, a local physiological pH making it possible to combat undesirable and infectious agents present as quickly as possible.
The amount of hydrochloric acid considered advantageous in the antimycotic compositions according to the invention is very low.
In the above example, the addition of 0.028 part by weight only of concentrated hydrochloric acid is sufficient to achieve the desired goal. This addition is advantageously carried out in @ the composition as described by way of example but in @ @

acid in the melt before pouring it into the suppository mold.
It has also been found that the addition of small amounts of such acid, besides providing an acidic vaginal suppository which is considered desirable for the treatment of vaginitis for the reasons stated above, also has a favorable effect on the appearance and shelf life of the suppositories according to the invention.
