<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>

An economizer
123 is placed at the bottom exit of the rear passage
37, not only in the front section 38 thereof, but also in the rear section 39. Tubes of the economizer extend vertically to help support the convection heater 71 located in the. rear section 39 of the rear passage. It should be noted that the ash screens 32 and 33 are disposed respectively across the upper ends of the radiant heater elements 67 and the radiant overheater elements 57, to help support them and to prevent their displacement. lateral. In addition, a single tube 123 is bent so as to move away from the rear wall 16 of the fireplace.
This tube 123 is disposed along the edge of the radiant superheater elements 57, to protect them. Likewise, a tube 124 protects the outer edge of each of the radiant heater elements 67.
The operation of the steam generator according to the invention, described below, will be better understood in the light of the above description.
The fuel is brought to the burners through the tubes 75 and 81 and it is projected into the bustion chamber 18, in general direction of the slag basin 19.
The lines of action of the fuel streams meet at an imaginary point, in the central part of the high temperature cell 50, a short distance above the basin 19. The air is introduced into the tank.

generator by means of the blowing fan 45. After having been reheated in the heater 44, it passes * in the duct 40, then cuts the connections 47 and 48 which lead: respectively to the burners 22 and 24. The air then enters the boots burner 74, and enters the firebox via the pivoting butterflies * 76, 78, 82 and 84.
Some of the air, regulated by the lower throttles 76 and 82, mixes with the fuel from the burner tubes to form a mass of turbulent air and compound in the high temperature cell 50, au- below the shoulders * 21 and 23.
The ignition is maintained by a suitable device of conventional type. The air which passes through the upper butterflies * 78 and 84 also joins the turbulent mass of air and fuel in the cell 50 and participates in the combustion process. Due to the particular design of the hearth, combustion takes place almost completely below the horizontal line defined by the projections. extremities of the shoulders 21 and 23. The gas passes from the high temperature cell 50 into the chamber 18 and leaves the latter through the first passage 114, the second passage 115 and the third passage 116. As a result, the gases pass through. pour radiant superheater elements 57 and radiant heater elements 67.
At the same time, the gaxes pass through the superheater elements 62 and the reheater elements 72. the gases pass upwards into the upper passage 119, then laterally through the discharge opening 118 to arrive in the passage. rear 37. Depending on the position of registers 42 and 43, the gases descend by the seotion

having 38 by crossing imparted from the skimmer 123, or by the. rear section 39 passing through the heater
71.
When the gases' rise in the combustion chamber
18, the radiant superheater elements * 57 and the elements. Radiant heaters 67 receive heat by radiation, as well as by convection. The gases, after leaving the rear passage 37, pass through the air heater 42 and are exhausted through the chimney 45.
The feed water arrives to the boiler through the economizer 123 and enters the lower part * of the water and steam tank 25. The water then descends through the tubes 26 to the collectors 27 and 29. him. it rises from the collector 29 through the tubes of the side dorons 28, and from the collectors 27, through the tubes of the notches. front and rear 31. In these screen tubes the water is vaporized, and the vapor produced arrives in the flask 25 where it is purified.
The purified steam leaves the flask 25 through the tubes 49 and arrives at the manifold 51. It descends along the walls of the rear passage, terminates at the lower manifold 52 and thence through the steam piping 54. to manifold 55 of the radiant heater elements 57. Steam passes from these elements into manifold 56 and thence, through steam piping 58, into manifold 61 of superheater elements 62. From there , the steam passes through the superheated steam manifold 63, or its temperature is measured by the device 103, then goes to the turbine.
On its return from the high pressure body of the turbine, the steam enters the boiler
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
by steam piping 64 connected to manifold 5 at the base of radiant heater elements 67. From there steam passes through this elements into manifold 66 connected by piping 68 to manifold 69. From this the steam passes through the heater 71 and thence into the heater elements 72 at the top of the fireplace.
The steam goes from these elements * to the heated steam manifold 70, where its temperature * is measured by the device 105, then to the low pressure stage of the turbine via a pipe 73.
According to US Patent No. 2,947,289 of April 11, 1958, it is known that it * and possible by the operation of the butterfly. 76 and 84 of * burner *, and registers 94 and 98 of pipes 47 and 48 supplying air to the burners to position the flame (that is to say the line of greatest gas flow) in the hearth for that it is either near the front wall 15, or near the rear wall 16, or in any intermediate position in the combustion chamber 18. FIGS.
2 and 3 show respectively the forward position of the flame 11, and its rearward position. They allow to understand the way in which this displacement of the flame can draw used to maintain the reheating and the superheating at values. predetermined constants, despite variations in the load of the steam generator * For example, at high load, horn indicated in fig. 2, it is necessary to maintain the heat transmission to the heated steam. at a high value, while the heat transfer to the superheated steam. can be reduced.
For this
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
j? aiaonr the flame 11 is directed towards the front wall 15, by means of the main control 91 actuating, through the various circuits, the hydraulic servo-motors so as to adjust the butterflies 94 and 98, or the butterflies 76 and 84 of the burner * For example, butterflies 84 can be raised and butterflies 78 lowered to cause the flame to move towards the front wall 15.
At this time, most of the combustion products pass over the radiant heater elements 67, transmitting heat to them both by radiation and by making * A predominant quantity of the gases then passes through the first passage before 114, s 'elevates through a substantial portion of the heater elements 72 before reaching the overpass 119. From there the gases flow under the roof 36 of the generator and then back through the exhaust opening. 118 and ended ** feels in the rear passage.
At high load, registers 42 and 43 are arranged so that a large part of the downward flow passes into the rear section 39 of the rear passage. The heater 71 then receives a considerable amount of heat. Since the gases are strongly cooled by the heater 71, it is not necessary to have a large part of the area of the economizer 123 in the rear section 39. Of course, some of the combustion products rise in. the rear zone of the fireplace, but the tendency remains an increase in the transmission of heat to the different parts of the heater, and a decrease in the heat transmitted to the different parts of the superheater.
In this way,
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
the temperatures remain constant despite variations in gas flow due to changes in speed.
Fig 3 represents the situation at low load * Heating can be neglected, but it in.% On the other hand necessary and 'increase the heat transmission t the' Steam * = heated to maintain it at a predetermined temperature * the control main 91 operates the butterflies 78 and 84 or registers 94 and 98 so as to move the flame 11 towards the back wall 16. This can be achieved, for example, by tilting the butterflies 78 upwards and directing the butterflies 84 down.
A predominant amount of gas therefore rises along the back wall 16 of the fireplace, and breaks over the radiant superheater elements 57, the gases then pass through the second passage 115 adjacent to the back wall 16, and pass over the superheater elements 62. that are there. Then the gases pass through the discharge opening They and arrive in the rear passage * the registers 42 and 43 are arranged so that a large part of the downward flow passes in the front section 38 of the rear passage, since the heat transmission to the heater must be reduced.
The gases therefore descend through the front section 38 and a considerable part of the surface of the economizer 123 must be there to cool the gases and maintain the efficiency of the generator.
Of course, at intermediate loads the flame can rise to the center of the hearth and in this case a large part of the flow passes through the third central passage 116. The transmission of heat by convection is
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
then substantially the same for the superheater elements 62 and the heater elements TJ2 * Likewise, the radiant heat transmission is substantially equal for the superheater elements 57 and the heater elements 67.
Additionally, registers 42 and 43 are. arranged so that the heat transfer by convection to the heater 71 has the appropriate value *
During these operations, the water tubes 123 along the edges of the radiant superheater elements 57, and the water tubes 124 along the edges of the radiant reheater elements 67, protect the outer steam tubes from heat. these elements from deterioration due to too high a metal temperature.
The screens 32 and 33 serve not only to support and prevent rocking of the superheaters and radiant heaters, but also to prevent the passage of slag in the upper passages of the boiler.
The tubes in the baffles 34 and 35 are not tangent and there is therefore some transfer of gas from one passage to another in this zone, but they nevertheless allow the gas flow to be substantially distributed between the first passage 114 , the second passage 115 and the third passage 116. Due to the junction of the small tubes into large tubes 122, by the forks 121, the longitudinal circulation of the gases in the upper passage 119 is not impeded. Indeed, the space between the large tubes 122 is large and does not hinder the gas flow. the upper edge of the baffle 41 of the rear passage: is significantly higher than the upper edge of the refractory baffle 117 at the top of the rear wall 16 of the hearth.
Of
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
This way, when the registers 42 and 43 occupy their open position, the gas flow is divided approximately equally between the front section 38 and the rear concept 39 of the rear passage. The main control 91 also acts, via line 60, to regulate the desuperheating which takes place in the desuperheater 59. The main control 91 also acts to regulate the position of the registers 42 and 43 at the bottom. rear passage 37.
It is understood that changes in detail can be made in the form and construction of the device according to the invention, without departing from the scope of the present invention, which is not limited to the particular embodiment shown and described. upper.
