The object of the present patent is an improvement in wood screws making it possible to avoid prior drilling before screwing the screw, to center and fix the screw in the wood before screwing looperation, finally to facilitate the introduction of the screw in particular in hardwoods
To this end, the object of the invention is characterized in that the lower end of the wood screw is conditioned to act as a bit to be drilled, and for this purpose is in an appearance form comprising at the at least two converging edges of opposite and cutting edges, each of which is common to two adjacent triangular faces, the base sides of which are of unequal length.
According to the invention, the conical shape of the lower end of the core of the wood screw will advantageously take the form of a pyramid with flat faces, the base of which is a quadrilateral, without excluding a pyramid shape comprising edges. converging lines separating hollow triangular faces.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended schematic drawings represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, embodiments of the object of the invention.
To this end, Figo 1 shows a wood screw produced in accordance with the present patent.
Fig. 2 represents the plan view of the extremity which is presented in an aspecticonic form in this case a pyramid whose base is a quadrilateral.
Fig. 3 shows a plan view similar to that of Fig. 2 whose base is also a quadrilateral in another embodiment.
Fig. 4 shows yet another plan view of the lower end of a conical-shaped wood screw whose faces forming the straight edges are no longer planar but hollow.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, 1 represents the wood screw, 2 the core of the screw, 3 of which represents the conical end. In the example, this end 3 is formed by a pyramid whose base is a quadrilateral formed by the sides 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, and the conical shape by the plane triangular faces 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, with vertex common at 9, and base sides of unequal lengths, that is to say 4a and 4c greater than 4b and 4do We will thus obtain four edges 5, 6, 7, 8, straight and converging at the vertex 9 and two opposing edges such as 5 and 7 will be cutting, and each common to triangular faces of unequal base side length.
In Fig. 3, the base quadrilateral of the end of the screw hole 2 is represented by the four sides 4a ', 4b', 4c ', 4d', and the plane facestriangulars ending at the top 9 by 3a ', 3b ', 3c'3d', forming as above, the straight cutting and opposite edges 5 and 70
Finally in Fig 4, the base quadrilateral of the end of the core 2 of the screw is represented by the curvilinear sides 4a ", 4b", 4c ", 4d", constituting the bases of the triangular faces 3a ", 3b ", 3c", 3d ", hollow always forming the edges 5, 6, 7, 8, of which 5 and 7 are straight and cutting with adjacent hollow faces and base sides such as 4" or 4c "different from 4b" and 4d " .
It is also possible to envisage, as cala is conceived by the above description, other embodiments of the object of the invention.
The application of the invention to wood screws has been designated and this general term should be understood as wood screws made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as, for example, copper and zinc, and in all dimensions and modes of 'execution. The lag bolts used in the construction of timber frames and ceu @ for fixing the rails, to sleepers
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of railways, are, of course, included in the general designation wood screw.
The operation that is to say the application is understood as follows.
With the screw in place on the piece of wood at the desired location, a light hammer blow on the head of screw 1 allows end 3 to be driven into the wood and screw 1 remains firmly fixed there. To then penetrate the screw 1, it suffices to screw it in the usual way and it is inserted into the wood, without requiring any preliminary drilling, the cutting edges 5 and 7 removing as the descent. Sorting light shavings, acting as a drill bit, the small chips formed evacuating and lodging in the hollow of the helical thread of screw 1.
It should be noted that as with any ordinary screw, the wood screw according to the present patent can always be unscrewed and then reused later.
In summary, it should be considered as coming within the scope of the present patent, an improvement in wood screws, characterized by the following.
CLAIMS.
