<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

METAL WINDOW CHASSIS.
The present invention relates to a metal window frame, the opening of which can, on the one hand, pivot outwards around its upper part to occupy a ventilation position offering practically no danger of the ingress of rain, and on the other hand, tilting about a median horizontal axis to allow the outer face of the glazing to be turned inwards in order to facilitate cleaning.
To this end, according to the invention, the opening of the window frame comprises a pivoting frame and a tilting frame, one of the two of which is articulated to the frame and carries the other, in which the glazing is placed.
In one embodiment of the invention, the pivoting frame is articulated at its upper part to the frame and the tilting frame, which contains the glazing, is journalled in the pivoting frame about its median horizontal axis.
As a variant, the pivoting frame is articulated at its upper part to the tilting frame and contains the glazing, while the tilting frame is journaled in the frame of the frame.
The articulation at the top of the pivoting frame can, in either case, be hinged or sliding.
In order for the invention to be fully understood, two embodiments will be described below, by way of example, shown in the appended drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a window frame according to the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in vertical section, of a window frame according to the second embodiment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a variant of the second embodiment.
In fig. 1, the pivoting frame 1 of the sash is suspended in the frame 2 of the window frame by hinges 3 allowing it to be opened outwards to a limited extent by the links 4 guided in the guides 5 of the frame . The tilting frame 6 of the opening, in which the glazing 7 is placed, pivots in the pivoting frame 1 on pivots u materializing its median horizontal axis.
For the purposes of illustration, fig. 1 shows the two frames 1 and 6 in scissors. It is clear that, in the ventilation position occupied by the pivoting frame 1 in this figure, the rocking frame 6 is not tilted but is in the plane of the pivoting frame 1 to which it is fixed by an appropriate latch. Likewise, when the frame 6 is tilted to clean the glazing, the pivoting frame will be in the plane of the frame 2.
In fig. 2, the tilting frame 16 is journaled at 18 in the frame 12 and the pivoting frame 11, which contains the glazing not shown, is hinged at its upper part to the tilting frame 16 to open outwards. This hinge is of the sliding type comprising on the frame 11 two pivots 19 engaged in slides 20 of the frame 16, and two articulated guide rods 14 connecting the frame 11 to the frame 16 so as to push the frame 11 outward when it descends in swiveling behind the scenes 20.
It goes without saying that the frame 11 could be suspended on hinges in the frame 16 like the frame 1 in the frame 2 of FIG. 1 and that, conversely, the frame 1 of FIG. 1 could be hinged to the frame.
In fig. 3, which shows a variant of the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the tilting frame 26 extends only over the upper part of the window, while the lower complementary part 36 is fixed and integral with the frame 22. The tilting frame 26 is fixed to the dor - by pins 28 and can be rotated by 180 The frame 21 which contains the glazing is articulated to the tilting frame 26 either by the hinges 53, or in the manner shown in FIG. 2 by means of slides and links. The movement of the tilting frame 26 drives that of the frame 21.
They are made solid by means of a suitable latch.
The glazing of the opening can be simple or thermo-insulating.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the forms and details of execution described and shown by way of example, and it would not go beyond its scope to make modifications thereto.
