EMI1.1
EMI1.3
(-So(GH2) oGOoNHoGHoNHoGO.(GH) .s-) @

PROCESS FOR POLYCONDENSATION OF ALCOHYLEN-, ALCOYLIDEN-, AND
EMI1.1
ARALCOYHDENES-BIS-HALOGEN OF CARBONIC ACID. (Inventors: E. Heisenberg, J. Kleine and R. Lotz).
The invention according to the main patent relates to a process for the preparation of polycondensates starting from bis-halogen amides of carbonic acid.
By conversion of the amides methylene-, alkylidene-, or aralkyli-
EMI1.2
dene bis halogen of carbonic acid of the following structure: Ealo (GH) oG00NEoCHo NHoGOo (GH2) noHal
R (R = H, or alkylene or aryl group, n = an integer, Hal c halogen) by means of a sulphide or polysulphide soluble in water or sodium hyposulphite in a sulphide soluble in water in phase aqueous, we arrive at the polycondensation products of the following structure:
EMI1.3
(-So (GH2) oGOoNHoGHoNHoGO. (GH) .s-) @
R (R = H, or an alkylene or aryl group).
It has now been found that the reaction can also take place favorably by removing water, for example in anhydrous alcohols, thereby obtaining quite uniform products with a high degree of polymerization.

The procedure is such that a methylene-, alkylidene-, or
EMI2.1
aralkylidene-bis-halogen carbonic acid, alone or mixed with xylylene dichloride either dissolved in an anhydrous alcohol, and adding anhydrous sodium hyposulphite. After thorough and prolonged mixing at moderate temperatures, sodium sulphide, also anhydrous in alcoholic solution, is added. By concentration of the mixture or by precipitation with acetone, the reaction product is separated in a pure form.
Example 1
11.4 gr. methylene-bis-chloropropionic acid amide
EMI2.2
(G? H12N2. 2.Gl2.) And 8.7 gr. of xylylene bichloride (G sHsG 12.) are dissolved in 500 gr. of anhydrous cresol and then 31.6 gr. anhydrous sodium hyposulphite. After stirring for 2 hours at 80 ° C., a solution of 15.6 g is added to the reaction mixture with turbination. of sodium sulfide in 60 cm3 of anhydrous methanol. By concentration of the solution, a syrupy filamentous mass of the following constitution is obtained:
EMI2.3
(-S.CI2. CH2.C0 QIH.CH.Ni oCa oCH oGHa S. CA2.C6H4.CH¯) Example 2
The procedure is according to Example 1; however, the solution is not concentrated but the polycondensate is precipitated with acetone. This separates out as a colorless mass (having a melting point of 230 C).
By washing with a bisulfite solution, the product is obtained in a particularly pure and clear form.
Example 3
EMI2.4
Li, 4 gr, of methylene-bis-chloropropionic acid amide and 8.7 gr. of xylylene bichloride are dissolved in absolute ethanol, then 31.6 g are added with stirring. of solid anhydrous sodium hyposulfite to solution and the reaction mixture is heated for 20 hours with constant stirring at reflux. After cooling, the polycondensate is precipitated with a well-filtered solution of 25.6 g. of sodium sulfide in 60 gr. of absolute methanol. Aspirated for 3 hours, washed thoroughly with hot water and 10% sodium bisulfite solution and dried in vacuo.
Melting point 210 C.
