<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Avantageusement,
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ARRANGEMENT ON A MACHINE TO ASSEMBLE- OBJECTS, -IN PARTICULAR FOR ASSEMBLY AT THE END OF THIN OBJECTS IN THE FORM OF PLATES.
The present invention relates to machines for assembling objects, for example, by gluing or welding, in particular for end-joining thin plate-shaped objects, for example plywood, and in particular. to a machine of this type in which there is mutual pressure of the objects to be assembled.
Such a machine is provided with a fixed lower press member and a movable upper press member as well as an advancement part which is in front of this arrangement, by which the objects are first moved. forward in different planes but in such positions with respect to each other that their edges or joining surfaces facing each other lie substantially in the same vertical plane, after which the objects are brought little by little and without lateral displacement, in a continuous advancing movement, in a common plane, in which the edges or mating surfaces are brought into contact with each other, and in this position they are then introduced between the press bodies, where the adhesive drying takes place, respectively the welding,
the upper press member being arranged to rest with all of its weight or substantially all of its weight on the lower press member so that by the action of the upper press member occurs the relative pressure of the objects.
The essential feature of an arrangement according to the invention consists mainly in that the advancement part comprises a particular part which serves on the one hand as a guide body, for the objects to be assembled advanced in various planes by the part of advancement, and on the other hand as fixing a device opposing the lateral movement of the upper press member and advantageously also controlling its application pressure against the fixed lower press member.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This feature and other features of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, in which reference is made to the figures of the accompanying drawings, which schematically show an example of how an arrangement according to the invention can be made. executed.
- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a machine arranged according to the invention, which is intended for assembly by the edges of plywood sheets and for their gluing; - Figures 2, 3 and 4-are sections of the machine along lines A-A, B-B, CC respectively of Figure 1.
2 denotes a fixed lower press member, on which a movable upper press member 3 is arranged so as to rest freely or substantially freely with all of its weight. The press member 3 is provided in known manner -d'a number of rollers 4 whose: axes 5 (Figure 4) advantageously form an angle both with each other and with the direction of advance 'ment of the objects to be joined, so that the glue coated plywood sheets are pressed laterally against each other under the action of the pressure of the press member 3, while they are advanced between the press members, for example by means of advancement devices on the lower press member.
The aforementioned advancement members may consist of endless advancement bands or the like 6. In order to dry and harden the glue in the adhesive joint, the press members are provided with heating bodies 7, 8 of known type.
In front of the press bodies 2, 3 there is a part which comprises devices for moving the plywood plates to be assembled to the press bodies and between them. In addition, devices are provided for guiding the plates during said advancement in a desired manner, defined in the introduction, and for providing them with glue on the edges or on the faces along which the assembly is to take place. These devices will be described in more detail below.
The advancement table 9 has at its inlet end of the plates, two tables 10, 11 placed at different heights which move in the direction of the press members 2, 3 so that the planes come to be at same height to said press organ.
Thus, for example, the plane 10 always develops horizontally, while the plane 11, seen sideways, is lowered in the direction of the press members so as to form a wedge towards the table 9 and the conveyor belts. 6 of the lower press member 2, which advantageously lowers as a direct result of the table 9. 12 designates a body arranged in a fixed or removable manner between the table surfaces 10, 11, for example in the form of a a part extended in length in the form of a load-bearing member - hereinafter referred to briefly as a load-bearing member, the longitudinal direction of which coincides in principle with the direction of advance of the plywood plates through the ma - chine, and whose core 13 advantageously forms an angle in principle right with the base.
The carrier 12 is provided with guides in which the facing edges of the plywood plates must be guided during the advancement towards the press members. Said guides consist, in the embodiment shown, of two grooves 14, 15. These grooves, which are advantageously provided directly in the carrier proper, each extend on the respective side of the carrier over the entire length or over a part of the wearer's length.
As can be seen from Figure 2, said grooves are offset in different horizontal planes but are placed with their vertical bottoms in a common vertical plane, so that the edges of guide plates in the grooves meet are in the same vertical plane (on the section of figure 2 along the same vertical line): The grooves 14, 15 each connect to the plane of the table on the corresponding side, so that the groove 14 extends horizontally and parallel to the horizontally extending table part 10 and the groove 15 extends - seen in the direction of advance of the plates - obliquely downward parallel to the table part 11.
Advantageously,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
both before and after the grooves of the carrier 12, there are further provided members which are arranged to guide the edges of the plates correspondingly, such as the grooves 14, 15. After the grooves of the carrier 12 such a member guide, in the exemplary embodiment shown, consists of a strip 16 connecting to the grooves of the wearer (said strip is shown in section in FIG. 3), which may coincide over all or part of its length with the carrier . The corresponding table top can also be formed per se as a guide for the plates mating to the corresponding groove of the carrier.
To the carrier 12 can be furthermore provided members to keep pressed against the corresponding table part 10, 11 the plates being in the advance. These members can comprise an arm 17 which can be tilted in the vertical plane, which is pressed against the plates by its weight and / or by the action of another force, for example the elastic force of a spring, advantageously of a coil spring 18. In addition to the carrier 12 there are fasteners 19 for the engagement rollers 20 which, in cooperation with the engagement rollers 21 provided in the table, press the plates forward and to engage between the press bodies 2, 3, where they continue to be guided by the conveyor belts 6.
Finally, the carrier 12 constitutes a fixing part of a device opposing the lateral movement of the movable upper press member 3, which thus serves as a guide device for said press member 3. The corresponding guide device comprises a body 22 extended in length, advantageously in the form of a rail, of a carrier, of an articulated or similar part, one end of which is permanently fixed to the carrier 12, embedded for example in a clamp 23 or the like, but always in such a way that it can be easily separated from the carrier 12.
The other end of the body 22, which body extends most advantageously over all or over the major part of the length of the upper press member 3, is, at 24, fixed in a movable manner, advantageously in articulation. or vertically tiltable at the end furthest from the press member 3, and exerts by its weight on said end, a force directed downwards. At the engagement end of the press member 3, the body 22 runs through a guide formed by two vertical flanges 26 projecting from the outer casing 25 of the press member.
In said guidance, the body can optionally be moved somewhat up and down, but not sideways, so that the body 22, in cooperation with the carrier 12, victoriously opposes any lateral movement of the liner. 'press member 3. Advantageously, the body 22 is resiliently fixed per se to the carrier 12 so that the body, apart from the action of its weight, also applies by its own elastic force the upper press member 3 against the lower press member 2.
At the body 22 is provided, at the engagement end of the press member 3, a device by which is obtained, on the one hand, an adjustment of the pressure of the upper press member on the pressure member. lower press and on the other hand a pressure on the lower press member 2 and its conveyor belt 6.
Said device comprises, in the embodiment shown, an advantageously elastic member adapted between the body 22 and a part 27 extending from the outer casing 25 of the press member 3, said member being for example a spring. coil 29 operable by means of a handwheel device 28. By changing the adjustment of the handwheel 28 actuating the spring 29, it is possible to obtain a control of the pressure of the upper press member 3 on the control member. lower press 2, such that the pressure on different parts of the press member can be made more or less strong as desired, mainly by looking in the longitudinal direction of the member, for example at the anterior part and at the rear of the press organ at the same time.
Several pressure control devices can also be provided at suitable points along the press member. The glue-spreading device, which is known per se, comprising a vertical glue-taking roller 31 immersed in a glue reservoir 30 and a glue-applying roller 32 placed obliquely and resting against it, .is suitable next to the engagement rollers 20,21. It is thus obtained that the edge of plywood to be covered with glue is maintained in a position suitable for the application of the glue.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Although the invention has been described in the foregoing in connection with assembly by gluing, it can, as already indicated, also be employed in assembly by welding. The operation would be clear without more in both cases, so a more detailed account will not be necessary.
It has been found that by an arrangement according to the invention very good results are obtained, in particular in the assembly of plywood sheets by gluing, since the plates do not need to be broken laterally. when spreading the glue - at the same time that a device is obtained which properly guides the plates during the passage through the drying zone, and which keeps them pressed together. In addition, it is achieved that the upper movable press member can be kept in plane on the fixed lower press member, without having to bring from the frame of the machine an arm or a stirrup narrowing the working field. . Further, the press members can be easily and quickly disassembled for cleaning and the like.
