CONVOYEUR A RACLETTES.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
A (fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Lorsque le bac supérieur m d'un élément du convoyeur a été re- tiré, (comme expliqué précédemment en référence aux fige 1, 2 et 3) et, avec ce bac supérieur m, également la cornière u portant la butée supérieure t2, rien ne s' oppose plus à l'enlèvement du bac inférieur de l'élément consi- déré;

SQUEEGEE CONVEYOR.
The present invention relates to improvements to the squeegee conveyor according to the main patent, consisting of several identical elements, each formed by two side flanges interconnected in their middle part so as to define two compartments, one upper, in the middle. which is carried out by the transport of the material by the scrapers and their drive chains, and the other, lower, in which the return of the scrapers and their drive chains takes place, - these elements - elements being interconnected with a certain freedom so that they can form between them a certain angle in the vertical plane (for example of 15) and a certain angle in the horizontal plane (for example of 5 to 7) .
The object of the improvements which are the subject of the present invention is to: (1) allow the removal of the upper tray of each element so as to give access to the return run of the scraper chains; - (2) to make the lower tray of each element removable while allowing the articulation of the elements between them in the two planes; (3) ensure the lateral guidance of the squeegee drive chains.

and
Fig. 11 is a more or less schematic view, in side elevation, of several adjacent elements, showing the removal of the lower pan from the middle element.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each element of the conveyor is formed by two side flanges a, consisting of box beams, interconnected at distance to distance in their middle part by horizontal spacers n; crossbars a2, fixed in the vicinity of the longitudinal ends of the elements, ensure the transverse reinforcement of the elements of the conveyor and allow their sliding.
On these spacers n rests a tray m, consisting of a sheet folded in the shape of a U in cross section (fig. 1), so as to delimit the upper compartment of the conveyor, in which the material is transported by means of squeegees e, driven at their ends by roller chains.!, in the direction of arrow x (fig. 2) The lower compartment, in which the squeegee chains return, is delimited by the lower tray , consisting of the side flanges a, interconnected by the cross members a2. The side flanges a can have any shape; however, it is preferable that they have vertical interior faces, to allow proper fitting of the upper tray m.
At 1-the upstream end of each element of the conveyor, the median horizontal part or web of the U of the upper tray m carries the flap b1, which engages under a tapered part b2, attached to the core of the upper tray. laughter m at the downstream end of adjacent isolation (as described in the 1st improvement patent), so as to ensure continuity between two adjacent elements and to prevent their dislocation during relative angular movements. The upper tray m is made integral with the lower tray by a locking device preventing it from rising; for this purpose, this upper tray m carries, on its lower face, at one end, a bracket ml pierced with a hole, in which the end of a screw m2 integral with the lower tray is housed.
An opening m3 made in the flange a provides access to this screw whose collar m4 limits unscrewing.
On the inner face of each side wing of the upper tray is welded a horizontal flat iron k, serving to guide the corresponding roller chain; to ensure a smooth passage of the rollers f of the chains through the plane of separation between adjacent elements of the conveyor, this flat bar k is folded, at each of its ends}, in k1, over a length equal to the pitch of the chain (that is to say at the distance from axis to axis of the rollers), at an angle / 2, if ballast is the maximum angle that can be made between them, in the vertical direction, the adjacent elements of the conveyor; this arrangement is described in detail in the 1st patent for improvement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The guiding of the return run (not tensioned) of the roller chains in the lower tray of the conveyor elements, is ensured by horizontal flat bars 1. welded to the underside of the side flange in a box; part 11 of these flat bars 1; 1 which is close to the plane of separation of two adjacent elements of the conveyor, is also inclined at an angle [alpha] / 2 towards this plane, over a distance corresponding to the distance d 'axis in axis of the chain rollers, as also described in detail in the 1st improvement patent.
To remove the upper bin m from a conveyor element, it suffices (as shown in fig. 3), after having removed a sufficient length of chain and released the locking system, to lift one end of the bin (to right in fig. 3) and pull it downstream (to the right on pin 3); this operation is possible thanks to a clearance of 2 mm between the trays m of two adjacent elements of the conveyor.
A device is provided for the lateral guiding of the drive chains of the scraper, in the vicinity of the ends of the elements, because it is in these places that the chains rub the most on the side walls of the conveyor when the elements of that -Here make between them a ce ::; ... tain angle in the horizontal direction. This lateral guide device for the chains is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, but in more detail in FIGS. 4 and 50
This guide device consists of flat bars 2 fixed to the inner face of each of the wings of the upper tray m, and by flat bars p1, fixed to the inner face of each side flange a, delimiting the lower tray.
These flat bars are bent, along a radius equal to the minimum radius of curvature R of the chain, over a length, determined as a function of the maximum angle / 9 that two adjacent elements of the conveyor can make between them in the horizontal plane in such a way that, in this position (fig. 5), the guide follows exactly the profile of the chain. These flat bars and p1 are chamfered, in p2, at their end remote from the plane of separation o-o1 of adjacent elements of the conveyor, to prevent any catching of the chain.
These flat irons prevent rapid localized wear of the inner walls of the bin m and the side flanges a of the conveyor, and they can be easily replaced.
It is useful to be able to remove a conveyor element at any point in an installation without having to move adjacent elements. The removal of a conveyor element, under such conditions, is subject to the shape of the connecting pieces between adjacent elements of the conveyor. These connecting pieces must, while allowing the articulation of the elements in the two horizontal and vertical planes, prevent any offset of the ends of the elements in the vertical direction.
As shown in figures 6 to 10, a hook s is welded or riveted to the upstream end of the lower tray of each element, inside the box beam a constituting each of the side flanges of the element; two stops t1 and t2 are fixed, one above the other the first, t1, on the lower tray the second t2, on the upper tray m; for this purpose, the upper part of the lower tray is removed over a certain length at the downstream end (carrying the stops) and is replaced by an angle u, fixed on the upper tray m and on which the upper stop t2 is fixed.
The hook s of an element is guided between the stops, t1 and t2 of the adjacent element. These stops t1 t2 prevent the adjacent elements from moving away from each other, in the horizontal plane, by a (- distance greater than. A (fig. 9) which corresponds to an angle. ; 9 (fig. 10) To prevent the shifting of the conveyor elements during this movement, the hook s has on its underside, beyond the plane of separation o-o1 between the conveyor elements, a right part s1 with a length A- - so that this hook remains constantly pressed on the lower stop tl.
The hook s also has, at its upper part, an ar-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
round s2, with center o1 and radius r, which allows the hook to remain in contact with the upper stop t2 when adjacent elements of the conveyor make an angle [alpha] between them, opening upwards, in the plane vertical (fig. 7). When adjacent elements of the conveyor make an angle between them [alpha]. opening downwards, in the vertical plane (fig. 8), the straight part s1 of the lower face of the hook s comes into contact with the inclined upper face of the lower stop t1, then slides on it.
The upper edges of the conveyor elements diverge slightly from each other. In this movement, the cover pieces b1 and b 2 have slipped relative to each other while remaining constantly in contact,
When the upper tray m of an element of the conveyor has been removed, (as explained previously with reference to figs 1, 2 and 3) and, with this upper tray m, also the angle u carrying the upper stop t2, nothing no longer opposes the removal of the lower tray of the element in question;
it suffices to lift the upstream end of this lower tray which carries the hook s, as shown in FIG. 11,
As emerges from the above description, the removable upper tray m allows easy access to the return end of the scraper chains and to dismantle it, if necessary, over a certain length, at any point of the l 'installation.
The removable lower tray allows, when the squeegee chains are disassembled to a sufficient length, to remove the tray and replace it without touching neighboring parts.
These two disassemblies are simple and reduce the downtime of the conveyor to a strict minimum, which is of great importance for a conveyor device whose operation must be as smooth as possible. The space required for these dismantling operations is relatively small, which is also to be considered for the use of the conveyor in the mines.
In addition, the lateral guidance of the scraper chains (fig. 4 and 5) makes it possible to reduce friction wear and limit it to easily replaceable parts.
