TROTTINETTE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

SCOOTER.
The invention relates to a scooter. All known rocker scooters and scooters have the disadvantage of being able to be propelled by continuous inaction with a single leg. However, sports toys for children should as far as possible bring about a uniform and bilateral action of the extremities only means to prevent the child from giving in to a tendency to unilateral action (left-handed), without having to be subjected to '' special monitoring
The scooter according to the invention conforms to this principle and radically eliminates the drawbacks of all known scooter constructions, by forcing the child to move both legs.
This is achieved by the fact that the scooter is provided with control means known in bicycles (cranks, chains and sprockets, the usual pedals of the bicycle being however replaced by two steps which keep their horizontal position even during movement! ) by the fact that they are attached to two cranks arranged 1-'one behind the other .. When the steps are long enough!) the machine can be used to transport two or more people and then forms a " tandem scooter ". In this case it is not a question of passive transport!) But all the "passengers" can participate in the propulsion and must at least follow the movements of the running boards.
To stay on the machine, each "passenger" simply holds their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them.
Driving while standing on mobile steps has the advantage that the user's body works in a uniform way!) Since the weight must be transferred regularly and alternately from one leg to another.
1, the machine can also be used by beginners who have never used an ordinary scooter before. To this end, it suffices for the device to be fitted with a freewheel mechanism and for the two
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
heads, when they are at the same level, can be prevented from moving by a fixed and common footrest board.!) which covers them.
Thus, one can first learn to ride a simple scooter, in the usual way and without foreign aid. When the child has acquired the necessary confidence while riding with the footrest board, it is sufficient to remove it. The child will now get used quickly and always without foreign help, to easily operate the steps in a stable positiono As after this exercise, riding with a saddle does not present any difficulty, the scooter can then be fitted with a saddle, \! thus gradually leading the child towards the use of a bicy- elettea The new scooter therefore makes it possible, by gradually accentuating the exercises to learn to ride a bicycle, without foreign aid, while radically eliminating all the inconveniences, harmful to health,
specific to all known scooter systems.
The use of the pedals, while being conceivable., Requires, especially in the absence of a saddle which relieves the legs of the weight of the body, a particular skill, in order to avoid a fall by slipping of the pedals while rolling standing upright on pedals is moreover tiring, since the legs must always be kept in contact with the pedals at the cost of a convulsive effort, while the leg resting on a step, especially in the presence of a locking mechanism. freewheel, can easily change position from time to time and rest.
To constantly ensure a uniform horizontal position of the running boards, which is the condition for regular rotation, it is possible to provide forced guidance of the two cranks.
This forced guidance can be provided just as in tandem bicycles by chain wheels mounted on the respective axles of the two cranks and over which an endless chain passes. It is also possible to give these axes the form of crankshafts and to join together by a connecting rod the elbows, provided with bearings of these crankshafts., Just as it is possible to ensure the forced guidance using two pinions carried respectively by the cranks and an intermediate pinion provided between the two first
The drawings show some exemplary embodiments of the invention.

Figure 2 shows the same scooters but with immobilized steps.

Figure 5 is a side view of a forced guide system by endless chain.
Figure 6 is a plan of a crankshaft forced guidance system.
Figure 7 is a side view of a forced guide system with gear transmission.
The scooter comprises a steering wheel 1 mounted in the known manner in a fork 2 rotatably supported in the tube 3. The tube 4, bent in an appropriate manner, is rigidly fixed to the tube 3 and has at its outer end a fork 5 intended to receive the rear wheel 6 carrying a chain wheel 7., optionally provided with a freewheel hub.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The tube 4 carries two bearings 8,8 ′ intended respectively for the cranks 9,9 ′ arranged one behind the other in the manner of a tang and connected on each side by a step 10,10 ′. The rear crank 9 is provided in the manner known per se with a chain wheel 11, which drives the rear wheel 6 via the chain 12.
When the scooter is called upon to be used by beginners who have never ridden on an ordinary scooter, it suffices to bring the detx steps to the same level and to immobilize them by a common footrest board 13 which them. covers both (see Figures 2 and 3). This allows you to learn how to use a regular scooter first and in the usual way.
The scooter can however also be fitted with a saddle.
For this purpose, a mandrel 14 can be provided on the tube 4, on which a tube 15 carrying the saddle can be driven in and resting in the known manner on 1-laye of the rear wheel by means of a rear fork. - re 16.
To ensure the forced guidance of the two cranks, each of the axes of the cranks 9,9 ', FIG. 6, is provided with a chain wheel, 17, 18, these wheels being connected by an endless chain 19. The axes of the cranks velles 9 and 9 'can also be transformed into crankshafts by the provision of elbows 20, 21 and be joined by a connecting rod 22, figure 6. Figure 7 shows another variant, where each of the axes of the cranks 9 and 9 'carry a pinion 23, 24; these pinions meshing with an intermediate pinion 5.
