Grâce à l'invention, on rend encore stérile
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Si on

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

improvements in air filtering devices for containers containing medicaments, foods or the like. the present invention relates to air filtering devices in the form of capsules or lids, intended for use on bottles, flasks, boots or other containers containing drugs, food and other similar products.
The invention consists, generally speaking, of an air filtering device comprising a hollow main body, made internally so as to form a chamber in which a filter medium has been accommodated, - by virtue of the shape of the chamber and / or the nature of the filtering medium, the air entering or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
spell is forced to traverse - between the inlet and outlet openings of the device - a winding or tortuous path which is long in comparison to the general dimensions of the device, in order to ensure a long exposure of the air to the action filter medium.
Although the filtering agent employed may itself be of such a nature as to constitute baffles with respect to the air flow, it is in most cases preferable to construct the aforesaid chamber so that air is positively forced to pass through a defined path for most of its passage through the device.
The nature and arrangement of the filter medium inside the filter are chosen so that the upper part of the mass of filter material remains relatively free of moisture, this having a tendency to accumulate at the bottom of the filter. the filter chamber. 2 Therefore, the air passing through the capsule will not have to overcome the resistance of a highly moisture-laden filter material, so that the passage of the air does not meet with substantial resistance, although tortuous, and the air pressure inside the bottle, flaoon, etc., is substantially the same as that of the ambient atmosphere.
The invention is of special utility with containers for holding liquids prepared for injections. Air filtering capsules according to the present invention, suitable for use on vaccine, serum and hypodermic injection bottles, allow air to freely enter the interior of the bottles and exit in the same way, by passing through the filtering means with which they are provided, and thus making it possible to fill a bottle with a non-sterile, thermostable liquid, to cap the bottle, and then to proceed with sterilization; you can also cap a bottle, sterilize it and then fill it with a sterile liquid.
Thanks to the invention, it is still sterile
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the outer surface of a hollow needle passing through the capsule, as a result of friction during the piercing, and thanks to the bactericide contained in the pierced part of the capsule. The invention also makes it possible to easily remove the sterile contents, the filling and extraction operations being carried out, if necessary, under the most unfavorable conditions, without risk of contamination of the liquid. In the / case of filtering devices for vaccine bottles and the like, the filling and extraction operations are carried out by means of a filter system or syringe terminating in a hypodermic needle which pierces the walls or upper diaphragms and lower that can be punctured.

Fig. 12 is a plan of a capsule-shaped filter with the cover removed.
Fig. 15 is a vertical section of the filter capsule, as used on a canister.
In the vaccine bottle filter shown in Figs. 1 to 3, 1 is a molded rubber body which is provided with a flexible part 2 extending downwardly and which surrounds the bottle neck 3; the body 1 is formed, inside, with a central circular chamber 4, from which extend, in opposite directions, two curved conduits 5 and 6, arranged symmetrically; the openings between said chamber! and conduits 5 and 6 are diametrically opposed. A filter pad 7 fits snugly inside the chamber 4, and extends into the openings of the ducts 5, 6. At the far end of the duct 5 is disposed a conical spout 8, which rises from the bottom. 9 of the body 1 and provides a means of communication with the interior of the bottle.
In the ceiling 10 of the body 1, immediately above the spout 8, is sealed a closing plug 11 which, due to the elasticity of the material of which the ceiling 10 is made, can be lowered, if necessary, at will, so as to stop the passage of air through the spout 8. In the ceiling 10, an air inlet hole 12 has also been made, located above the far end of the duct. 6, so that the air entering the bottle must necessarily pass through said duct 6, pass through the filter pad 7 in the chamber 4, go along the duct 5 and descend through the beo & The ducts 5, 6 act as moisture drains.
The bottom 9 and the cap 10 of the capsule constitute, in fact, perforable diaphragms, through which a hypodermic needle can be made to penetrate in order to fill a capped bottle, or to extract the contents thereof. A series of concentric rows

10, to indicate points which are suitable for perforation for extraction, the larger central area 13a is reserved for filling.
The bottom or diaphragm 9 is made of rubber which contains a minimum of soluble aqueous material, and which must not contain coloring matters or pigments (soluble in dilute acid or alkali in limtes between pH3 ET pH9) or groin-type accelerators and antioxidants.
The rubber should be filled with ceresin or other citrus substance having little chemical affinity. The thickness of the bottom can vary from 21/2 to 5 mm., Depending on the size of the capsule. The spout 8 and the stopper 11 can be made of ebonite, hard rubber, or metal (such as aluminum), and the remainder of the capsule, including the cap 10, is preferably made of such rubber. - nace, loaded with carbon; The thickness of the ceiling varies from 1 to 2 mm. according to tenacity.
The filter pad is preferably made of an anastomosing artificial sponous rubber, containing an appropriate bacteri-aid and fungicide (for example, coloring matter of the flavin series), and its thickness varies from 6 to 10 mm * The bactericide and fungicide / preferred consists of an aqueous solution of acriflavine (0.4 percent) The bactericide and funicide can be introduced into the filter medium by soaking it in a suitable solution, sampling and then assembling the components. of the capsule, or by preparing the bactericidal agent in tabular form, inserting a tablet into the air inlet 12, and then sterilizing the assembled bottle and capsule by means of wet steam.
The capsule cap 10 is preferably established in the shape of a trough or cup, as shown in the drawing, to hold a certain amount of antiseptic liquid (e.g. 70% alcohol) which serves as a detergent for the top surface. from the ceiling, and at the same time serves as lubricant for the hypodermic needle
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
In the modified embodiment of the vaccine bottle filter shown in Figures 4-7, the body is in the form of a flat ring 14 with a central circular opening 15 and a trough, groove or conduit 16, in the form of a ring. C, at one of the ends of which is placed the oonic nozzle 8.
At the tops of the inner and outer walls of the trough, a rebate or shoulder 17 has been provided to support a C-shaped trough cover 18 (see fig.7). This cover 18 is provided with an air inlet 12 and an opening 11 to make it possible to lower, at the desired times and according to the needs, on the spout 8, a plug 11 which is sealed in the elastic ceiling 10. The filter pad 7 fits into the central circular opening 15, and is provided with a wedge-shaped teat 19 fitting into the space corresponding to the opening of the C-shaped trough and further provided a smaller wedge-shaped tail 20, which protrudes into the interior of the trough 16,
through an opening 21 in the inner wall thereof; said tail 20 constitutes the effective part of the filter pad 7, through which the air must pass before having access to the interior of the bottle. The top 10 of the filter pad chamber is formed by a separate perforable diaphragm, while the bottom 9 is made in one piece with the sides of the cap and with part 2 which surrounds the bottle neck. The outer wall of the trough, opposite the opening 21, can be cut so that the plug 7 can be joined with the side of the capsule by vulcanization.
In the device shown in Figures 8 and 9, the filter pad 7 is provided with walls 22, formed of skins or rubber bands, which are impermeable to air, and which function in the same way as the partitions between the walls. filter pad chambers and conduits or troughs of the embodiments described above. The ceiling 10 and the bottom 9 can be made of perforable material (eg rubber) or of metal. If we
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
If desired, the walls 22 can be made of metal and be cemented to the rubber filter pad 7 or be combined with the bottom 9.
In the construction shown in the drawing, two nozzles 8, diametrically opposed, and two entries 11, diametrically opposed, are used. The path of the filter aid is indicated by arrows.
The construction of filters shown in Figure 10 is particularly suitable for use as a milk bottle cap; it consists of a body 1, which contains an S-shaped passage 23, in the center of which is a conical spout 8. Two buffers 24, of filtering material, are interposed between the spout 8 and the two diametrically opposed air inlets 12. The filter medium employed may be artificial sponge rubber, metal or glass fibers, or other similar material.
Figure 11 shows a filter incorporated in a bottle cap; a filter pad 7 of any suitable material is fitted in the cavity of the plug. At the top of the cap, an air inlet 12 has been made, and a water trap 26, containing a spout 8, is inserted into the base of the cap; a communication between the filter cavity 25 and the hatch 26 is established by the opening 27. At the upper and lower ends of the plug 7, skins impermeable to humidity and air can be placed at will. .
In Figures 12 and 13, there is shown a filter device especially suitable for metal cans and other relatively large containers; the device is in the form of a capsule and comprises a body in the form of a cup 28, with a downward threaded connection 29, intended to engage in a threaded sleeve 30, formed in the bottom of a recess 31 in the top of the boot . The body 28 is provided with a screw cap 32, the bottom of which can be flexible, so as to be able to yield and thus allow a closure cap 11, which it carries, to close the spout 8.
In the upper part of the wall of / body 28, a series of

air inlets 12. A conical spout 8, which communicates with the interior of the box through the connector 29 and through the socket 30, is disposed centrally inside the capsule, and concentrically around said spout 8. A non-perforated annular trough 33 is disposed, having notches 34, 35, made in the edges of its inner and outer walls, to allow air to pass. Inside the trough 33 is housed an annular cage 36, provided with perforated walls and containing the filtering agents 7.
The air inlets 12 are preferably located within a diametrical area perpendicular to the diametrical area in which the openings 37 are located in the outer wall of the trough 33, so as to force the air to pass along. of the outer annular space 37, formed between the wall of the capsule and the trough 33. In the same way, the openings 34 of the gauge wall are arranged at right angles to the openings 35, thus forming the air of pass through the filter medium 7, instead of simply crossing it. A sinuous or tortuous air path is thus created between the inlets 12 and the nozzle 8.
The annular space 38 in the center of the capsule and the space 37 between the capsule wall and gauge 33 constitute moisture drains. The capsule, as a whole, is made of suitable metal, while the filter media can be any of the shapes described above.
