La fig. 3 est une vue détaillée en coupa, dessinée à une @ agrandie, la coupe étant faite suivant la ligne III-III de la fig. 2;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improvement in cutting machines, controlled by motor year".
The present invention relates to cutting machines controlled by a motor, of the type in which the substance to be cut is moved in front of a rotary knife, towards which the substance can be fed either automatically while the machine is running or by hand.
When removing certain substances, it is desirable to be able to decrease or increase the speed of cutting (ie the speed of movement of the substance relative to the knife).
In motor-driven machines in use today, the decrease or increase in the cutting speed may be disadvantageously accompanied by a decrease or increase in the speed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of rotation of the knife} although we have already proposed aes cutting machines in which n sliding coupling has been incorporated in the mechanism of. crankshaft and connecting rod.
, for the control of the ordinary support back and forth for the substance to be cut, so that the said support slows down automatically, when the cutting knife encounters hard parts or of the substance.
The present invention comprises a cutting machine of the type mentioned, in which the knife is rotated by an electric motor or the like, while the holder for the substance to be cut is also operated by the motor, but through the medium. of the slip coupling; devices being provided by means of which the agent can increase or decrease the speed of the. support and as a consequence, the speed of cutting, depending on the substance to be cut, the speed of the knife remaining uniform.
The components can be arranged so that by pushing or pulling on a hand component on the support, during the reciprocating movement controlled by the motor, the driving force transmitted by the sliding coupling hundred is thick. be increased or decreased to vary the speed of the support, so that the agent can vary the speed of the cutting at will, this being especially useful for the cutting of Substances containing layers of soft fat, because the latter does not should not be cut as fast, as eg. compact flesh.
A constipating cutting machine unc embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which-.

taken at right angles to each other.
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view, drawn at an enlarged view, the section being taken along the line III-III of FIG. 2;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2, of a modification.
The cutting machine shown comprises a foot 1 on which a sliding support 2 is mounted as usual, for a handle 3 and a clamping device 4 for holding the substance to be cut S on a plate. advancement 5, mounted on the support 2 and being able to slide transversely to the latter as usual.
An advancing mechanism (not shown) constructed as would be provided, for advancing the plate 5 with the substance S towards a rotary knife 6 brought by a bracket 7, which rises from the. foot 1. The console 7 supports an electric motor 8, the shaft of which carries a hedgehog 9 connected by a chain to a hedgehog 10 out of the knife, the chain $ as indicated by the dotted line 11. The support 2 is coupled to a crankshaft 13 by a connecting rod 14 :, the crankshaft 13 being fixed to the upper part of a vertical shaft 15, supported in and passing through the foot 1.
On the lower end the crankshaft 15 carries a bevel wheel 16 which meshes with a bevel gear 17, on a horizontal shaft 18, also brought into the foot 1 and extended to the outside thereof.
The crankshaft 15, at a point essentially in the middle of the length, carries a horizontal flywheel 19 (indicated in dotted lines in fig. 1), and it is connected to the knife shaft 20 by the control, by members 18, 26 and 27, the link essentially comprising a sliding coupling 21, 22.
Part 21 of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the slip coupling is formed on or. attached to the horizontal shaft 18, while the other part 22 is freely mounted on the shaft 18 and pushed by a spring 23 (fig. 3) to floatly engage with the other part -Si. The outer end of shaft 18 is supported in a ring 24 which forms the stopper for spring 23.
The ring 24 is threaded into a boss 25 forming part of the foot 1 and by adjusting the bagne the spring pressure and consequently the friction inconsistency of the reacting faces of the parts 21, 22 can be adjusted. The part 22 is fixed on the hedgehog 26 controlled by the chain 27 from the hedgehog 28 on the shaft 20 of the knife, the latter being controlled by the chain gear 10, 11, 9 by the motor 8.
The parts 21, 22 or part thereof may be coated in a known manner with a friction material.
In the operation of the machine, when cutting a piece of substance of variable nature, the coti- teau keeps its speed of rotation uniform, while them 'by means of the sliding coupling, the speed of the support 2 can be varied by the agent, depending on the nature of the. substance to be cut, the agent holding, in this bat, handle 3 in his hand.
If desired, the ring 24 can be removed enough to render the slip coupling ineffective. The support can then be moved back and forth by hand, while the knife can be commanded by the motzar or remain stationary, the latter arrangement being preferable when cutting cheese. In addition, to sharpen the knife in the known manner, the holder could remain stationary and the knife could be rotated by the motor.
The cutting machine shown in FIG. 4 is of the type in which a tree to see, indicated by 30,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is supported in the foot of the machine, and carries at its outer end a fly 31 with a lever 32, while at its. inner end it carries a bevel gear 33 meshing with the angle wheel 16 on the crankshaft 15, the crankshaft being omitted from FIG. 4 for simplicity. Another difference with the construction shown on f.igs. 1 to 3, is that the construction shown in FIG. 4 does not have a flywheel on the crankshaft 15, and no handle on the support 2.
In the other details the two constructions resemble each other Affecting the operation of the machine shown in fig. 4, the knife would maintain a uniform desolation speed, but by means of the sliding coupling, the agent could increase or decrease the speed of the support, depending on the nature of the substance by means of the handwheel F.
It is understood that the slide coupling shown has been chosen only as an example and that its construction can be modified if desired.
