<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"ELECTROMECHANICAL TRANSFORMER OF VIBRATORY ENERGY WITH RADIATION RESISTANCE AND CONTAINING MECHANICAL AMPLIFICATION OF MOVEMENT"
The present invention relates to an electromechanical vibratory energy transformer endowed with radiation resistance and comprising a mechanical amplification of movement.
The aforesaid electromechanical transformer comprises: a device allowing the transformation of electrical energy into mechanical energy, consisting of an electromagnet polarized by any of the known methods. This electromagnet is provided with a winding at the ends of which are imposed periodic electromotive forces, or electrical impulses of any kind that one wishes to transform.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This transformation is effected by modifications of the permanent attraction which is exerted on a ferromagnetic part separated from the electromagnet by an air gap of variable thickness, and integral with an elastic system, constituted by a rigid lever intimately connected to a wire or to two wires stretched over a massive frame. The elasticity of the system is entirely due to the torsional elasticity of the mono or bifare suspension,
The end of said lever is joined to a farm body and ae magnifications such that it has a significant resistance to acoustic radiation. It may be, for example, a light, undeformable and rigid plate, the rigidity of which is obtained, for example, by judicious ribbing.
The elastic system comprising the mo @@ or bifilar suspension, the lever, the ferromagnetic part, the rigid plate, then owes all its elasticity to the single or bifilar suspension alone, and has only one degree of freedom, and consequently, a single clean period.
The part of the device endowed with radiation resistance can be produced in the form of an embedded membrane consisting, for example, of a light fabric stretched over a rigid, undeformable frame. Said membrane can be made rigid at its center by a reinforcement and have only a deformable annular part. The elasticity of the system is then due, partly to the mono or bifilar suspension, partly to the elasticity of the membrane. The system has two degrees of freedom, and therefore two proper periods. the mechanical damping of the device can be achieved by means of a damper consisting of a cylindrical container closed by a thin wall integral with a rigid disc pierced with holes of small diameter.
The aforesaid disc is inside the container which is filled with a viscous liquid.
The thin wall is fixed at any point of the lever and participates as well as the disc in all the movements of the latter.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The container proper is either connected to a fixed point or endowed with a certain inertia, so that there are relative movements of the disc with respect to the walls of the container. The friction of the viscous liquid on the disc creates a damping which is a function of the amplitudes of movement. The damping can be assayed, either by modifying the dimensions or the inertia of the receptacle, or by moving the damper on the lever so as to bring it more or less to the movement belly.
The damping of the membrane can be obtained by placing in front of it a rigid wall which does not touch it at any point, but which is only separated from it by a very small distance.
This wall is pierced with small diameter holes. Finally, to give the vibrations a preferred direction of propagation, the device can be fitted with a conical or parabolic shaped reflector.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic view in a plane perpendicular to the plane of vibration of the electromechanical transformation and motion amplification system using the torsional elasticity of a single-wire suspension. 1 is a rigid and undeformable lever, 2 is a coil placed on the ferromagnetic circuit 3 of the electromagnet, 4 is a ferromagnetic part integral with the lever 1, 5 is a fixed support comprising two uprights 6 and 7 in which it is possible tighten the wire 8 more or less, in the middle part of the wire 8 the lever 1 is fixed so that if the lever is moved from its equilibrium position the torsional elasticity put into play in the wire 8 tends to make him take it back.
Fig. 2 represents in a plane parallel to the plane of the vibrations the device of FIG. 1. In this figure, for clarity of the drawing, the post 6 of the support 5 has not been shown. As in FIG. 1, the numbers 1, 2,3, 4,8 represent
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
respectively the rigid lever, the winding placed on the ferromagnetic circuit, the ferromagnetic circuit, the ferromagnetic part integral with the lever and the single-wire suspension.
Fig. 3 schematically represents in the plane perpendicular to the plane of vibration the principle of the electromechanical transformation and the amplification of movement, using as restoring force the elasticity of torsion of a two-wire system. Fig. 4 is a view in a plane parallel to the plane of vibration of the two-wire suspension device. In these Fig.-1 designates the rigid lever, 2 the coil placed on the magnetic circuit, 3 the ferromagnetic circuit, 4 the ferromagnetic part integral with the lever 1, 5 the fixed support, 6 and
7 the uprights on which the two-wire device designated by 9 is stretched.
Fig. 8 is an elevational view of a shock absorber shown in section, FIG. 9. The cutting plane is parallel to the vibration plane.
In these figures, there is a rigid wall 17 of revolution around the axis A A and carrying a threaded stud 18; edges of the container thus formed, is welded a very thin membrane 21 integral with a metal part formed of a threaded stud 19 and a rigid circular plate pierced with small holes. The cavity is filled with oil or some other viscous fluid.
When the rigid circular plate 20 is moved in relation to the wall 17, the frictional forces exerted by the fluid on the plate create a reinforcement.

s considerably, which means that qùelµ1,, 1ôm, + Ôunit¯¯auiieyier or to any other vibrating member of the device, the shock absorber by the threaded stud 19 and that we connect to a fixed ppint the stud 18 we will equip the so-called lever or member of additional damping. The same result will be obtained if, instead of joining the threaded stud 18 to a fixed point, the part of the shock absorber, to which it is integral, is given a certain inertia at the

means of additional weights (screwed on the nipple 18 for example),
Fig. 5 shows a complete device with radiation resistance.
In this figure, the reference numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 9 denote the same members as in FIGS. 3 and 4 above. 10 is a rigid and practically undeformable circular plate. To be made practically undeformable while retaining great lightness, this part is ribbed and constructed in such a way that its base in the case where it is the site of a specific vibration is of an ultra-acoustic period. The elasticity of this device is entirely due to the bifilar suspension. The device therefore has only one degree of freedom and consequently only one specific period. In order to reduce the resonance phenomena due to the existence of this natural period, any one of the points of the lever or of the indeformable disc can be fixed one or more dampers.
Figs. 6 and 7 represent an overall embodiment using the principles of the transformation of energy of mechanical amplification and of damping stated above and described above.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view, FIG. 7 is an elevational view; the cutting plane is parallel to the vibration plane.
In these Figs. 16, is a support foot connected to a rigid and concave part 14 by a ball joint 10; 12 is a shock absorber fixed to the lever 1. 11 is a membrane comprising an elastic annular part and a rigid central reinforcement. This membrane is embedded between the ring 22 and the circular part 15 provided with four bases for its attachment to the part 14.
One of these bases is designated by the number 5 and serves as a rigid support for the bifilar suspension 9. 13 is a rigid disc pierced with holes which plays the dual role of providing the membrane with mechanical protection and increasing its strength. amortization; finally, the concave part 14 makes it possible to impose on the radiated vibrations a direction favored by a rotation of the ball 10. In these FIGS. the reference numerals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 denote the same members as in Figs. 3 and 4.

These devices are designed to be used to transform simple or complex periodic electrical phenomena into mechanical vibration of the same form. The mechanical vibrations thus created are radiated into the surrounding environment.
In this way, speech or music can be heard in an indefinite or limited space. Conversely, the device is reversible and can serve as a microphone.
