Fig. 1 est la vue en élévation latérale d'ure machine perfec- tionnée ;
Fig.2 en est une vue de face;
Fig. 3 en est une vue en plan;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Further training in bottle polishing machines or the like"
The present invention relates to bottle polishing machines or the like, and more specifically to those which are designed for the purpose of polishing a fringe of bottles or like objects at the same time as the polishes. bottles etc. are moved back and forth across the periphery either of a polishing wheel or grinding wheel or of a drum. to polish.
In its broadest sense, this invention consists of a bottle polishing machine etc. comprising, '
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a frame mounted in front of a polishing drum and arranged to receive these 'bottles etc. that it is a question of peeling by animating them with a back and forth tangential to the said polishing drum, by pressing them against its surface, as well as means for ensuring the rotation of the frame and means to load bottles etc.
to be polished, in series which are made to move away from this frame in order to evacuate each of the series of bottles from this frame while it performs its movement, back and forth.
In order to make the description of the object of this invention clearer, we will give an exemplary embodiment thereof with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is the side elevational view of an improved machine;
Fig.2 is a front view;
Fig. 3 is a plan view;
? ig. 4 shows a section taken along a plane drawn by line 4-4 in FIG. 2
Fig. 5 shows a detail, in section taken along 5-5 of Figure 1
Now it can be seen, in the embodiment of the invention shown here, that the device is mounted on a frame where the spars are similar, in that, on each side, there is a lower spar 10 and a upper spar 11 held above the previous one by uprights 12 added to a shoring piece 13 directed diagonally.
At the rear end of the lower side members there are bearings 14 used as supports for a shaft 15 on which is wedged a drive pulley 16 receiving the driving force by a belt 17 which is itself actuated by improte. what appropriate mechanism, scit an engine, either a countershaft or any other system of this gene. Other bearings 16 which are mounted on the side member

upper 11, serve as supports for the shaft 19 of a polishing drum 20 which is constituted by risks of a fibrous material, such as felt, cloth,
etc. ' The shaft 15 is equipped at each of its ends, an SI pulley, connected by a roie belt 22, with a similar pulley 23 cla.vetée on the shaft 19; the drum receives, under these conditions, a rotary movement attacking it by its two ends.
At the top of the main part of the frame, there is the reservoir or tub 24 in which the bottom of the drum plunges; it is this tub which contains the polishing product, which will preferably be a mixture of a suitable abrasive very finely subdivided, with water in the desired proportion to give it the adequate consistency. Over the bucket we put a soft top or box cover 25, the front part being equipped with a wide apron 26.
Des.paliers 27 await in front of the front upright 12 and / the front of these.paliers pivot the lower ends of swinging brackets 28 each. carries a pair of bearings 29 constituting guides for the play of a bar 30 animated by a back-and-forth movement. A shaft 32 @ is mounted in bearings, against the front of the machine; at each end of this shaft is fixed a disc 33 to which is fixed a crank button 34 connected by a small articulated arm 35 with a clamp 36 fixed in an adjustable manner to the bar 30 which relates to it. shaft 32 is also wedged a belt pulley 37 connected '! by a belt 38, with a pulley 39 fixed on the shaft 15.
It follows that the actuation of the shaft 15 causes the edges 30 to take a back-and-forth movement. On each of these bars is adjustably mounted a support bearing 40 and these steps are provided with aligned supports 41 adjacent to the bars '30 as well as other aligned supports 42' at the front ends of these bearings.
It is in these supports that the shafts 43 have their trunks; each of them carries a frame 44-shaped in '* the transverse parts of the' frame affecting the shape of an angle iron, as indicated at 45, with stop and retaining pins 46 between which one can put bottles B in po-

sition. One of these frames is attached to the outer face 2. 'a pair of gears 47 while the other is attached to the inner faces of a pair of gears 48 which mesh with the toothed wheels 47;
under these conditions, one of the frames can tilt into the space surrounded by the other, so that, by modifying the position of the gears 47 and 46 by the operation of a lever such as 49, one makes play these frames between their horizontal and vertical positions.
They have also received proportions such that the movement of each of them to make it take the horizontal position makes arrive the 'bottles (or other objects to be treated) which door in operative contact with the grinding wheel or with the polishing drum. . the lying 47 'go up from the diagonal pieces
15 at the rear of the machine, and bearings 48 'are provided at the upper ends of the oscillation guide bars 28.
Ions 49 'pass through uprights 47' and through bearings 48 ', their front ends being threaded, so that the handwheels 50 can be screwed onto these bolts 49' in order to compress the springs 51 between the .
the so-called flywheels and the bearings 48 ', which has the effect of adjusting the guide bars 28 relative to the polishing drum 20, so that the battles (or similar objects) apply strongly to the periphery of this drum. In order to prevent the pressure from becoming exaggerated each of the guide bars 28 is equipped with a limiting screw 52 which presses against a front post 12, which has the effect of limiting the rearward deviation of each of the upper ends of said bars 28.
When the machine is to be operated, one of the boards 24 being first tilted, the upright position, or the load of cans (or other objects) of course, while the machine is running and the drum 20 rotates. Then, acting on the lever 49, the loaded frame is tilted into the position in which these bottles (or the like) are pressed against the grinding wheel or against the drum 20.
This is what makes the other char-

hers in the polishing position; therefore, it is alternatively the one and the other frame which work; 'of course, the crank plates 53 in-tournatt make up and down the 1 frame which supports the bottles etc during polishing and thanks to at this movement the entire surface thereof, pressed against the drum, benefited from a suitable polishing.
Under these conditions, the present system achieves a both efficient and simple arrangement which fully meets the above-mentioned purpose.
