Abstract
Description
Jewelery box
The present invention relates to a jewelry box.
More specifically, the invention is intended for storing jewelry and stylishly presenting this jewelry when opening the jewelry box.
Jewelery boxes are already known which consist of a box half which is connected to a lid by means of a hinge.
It is an object of the invention to provide a jewelry box that allows presenting a piece of jewelry in a particularly original manner.
To this end the invention relates to a jewelery box for storing a piece of jewelry made up of two box halves which are arranged against each other with their open sides and which are connected to each other by means of a hinge at one of their connecting edges, wherein in the space of the box a presentation plate is provided on which the jewelry can be arranged at the top, and which is designed such that the jewelry on the presentation plate, during opening of the jewelry box around the aforesaid hinge, automatically moves out to present the jewelry.
Due to the fact that the jewelry moves out automatically, this gives a surprising effect for the user.
Another advantage is that the jewelry box can be presented in different open positions, whereby the jewelery can be presented on the presentation plate in different ways, for example with the jewelry box half or fully open.
Another advantage is that the jewelry box according to the present invention is very simple in construction and very easy to use.
With the insight to better demonstrate the characteristics of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a jewelery box according to the invention is described below as an example without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 schematically and in perspective represents a jewelry box according to the invention in the closed state; figure 2 represents a section according to line II-II in figure 1; figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 represent a cross-section like that of figure 2, but during the successive steps of opening to the fully opened position of figure 6; Figure 7 shows an analogous section to that of Figure 6, but for another embodiment of the jewelry box according to the invention; figure 8 represents a view according to the arrow F8 in figure 7.
1 and 2, the jewelry box 1 is shown schematically in the closed state. The jewelry box 1 is made up of two box halves 2 of a sturdy material enclosing a space 3 in which the jewelry 4 is stored and in which the open sides 5 of the two box halves 2 are arranged against each other. At one of their connecting edges 6, the box halves 2 are connected to each other by means of a hinge connection 7.
The hinge connection 7 connecting the two box halves 2 to each other is, for example, made of a foil material such as cardboard, leather, plastic or the like and in this case is formed by the outer covering 8 of the jewelry box 1.
Provided in the space 3 is a presentation plate 9 on which the piece of jewelry 4 to be presented can be arranged and which is pivotally arranged on the jewelry box 1 and which rotates, around a geometric axis that runs parallel to the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1.
The presentation plate 9 has an upper side 10 which is provided with means 11 for holding the piece of jewelry 4 in a desired position and a lower side 12 which is directed towards the walls 13 of the box halves 2 which are connected by means of the hinge 7.
The presentation plate 9 is pivotally connected at its lower side 12 to each of the pivotally connected walls 13 of both box halves 2.
These hinges 14 are at the same distance from the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1 and are made of a pliable material.
In the example shown, they consist of a foldable strip 15, for example of cardboard, plastic foil, or the like, with two parallel fold lines 16 along which the strip can be folded in three parts (17,18,19) and runs parallel in one direction on the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1. This strip 15 is connected with a free edge 19 to one of the aforementioned box halves 2 and to the other free edge 17 to the underside 12 of the presentation plate 9.
The top 10 and the bottom 12 of the presentation plate 9 have a rectangular shape. This rectangular shape is characterized by a length and a width, wherein the length is measured in the direction of the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1 and the width is measured in a direction perpendicular to the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1.
The width of the bottom side 12 of the presentation surface 9 is in this case larger than the width of the top side 10.
This shape can be realized by beveling the presentation plate 9 conically along both side edges 20 which run parallel to the direction of the hinge 7.
The underside 12 of the presentation plate 9 is further optionally connected on both sides of the hinge to the box halves 2 by means of a slack connection 21 which is for instance formed by a ribbon 22 or by a rope or by a length of fabric extending in the longitudinal direction .
The walls 23 of each box half 2 contain magnets 24, more particularly at the location of the edges 25 which come together when the jewelry box 1 is closed and magnets 26 which are located in the hingedly connected walls 13.
Furthermore, magnets 27 can also be provided in the presentation plate 9.
The operation of the jewelry box 1 is very simple and as follows and is illustrated with reference to Figures 3 to 6.
In the closed position, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the jewelry box 1 is kept closed by the interaction between the magnets 24 in the edges 25 of the jewelry box 1.
To open the jewelry box 1 from this closed position, it is sufficient to break the magnetic attraction and rotate the two box halves 2 along the hinge 7 relative to each other.
When the jewelry box 1 is systematically further opened, according to the successive positions of Figures 3 to 6, the presentation plate 9 will pivot on both hinges 14 of a pliable material, whereby the symmetrical configuration of the whole makes the presentation plate 9 as it were moves pivotally relative to a geometric axis that runs parallel to the hinge of the jewelry box 1 and which thereby maintains a position extending in a plane perpendicular to the plane of symmetry of the jewelry box 1.
In this way, during the opening of the jewelry box 1, the presentation plate 9 will automatically move outwards into a position where the presentation plate 9 rests on the edges 28 of the jewelry box 1 connected to the hinge and, as such, the jewelry 4 on the presentation plate 9. has been brought out.
Upon opening, the ribbons 22 are tensioned on the underside 12 of the presentation plate 9, which promotes the stability of the presentation plate 9.
When the jewelry box 1 is almost fully opened, the magnetic attraction between the magnets 26 in the hingedly connected walls 13 of the box halves 2 will ensure that these two walls 13 are pulled towards each other and that the jewelry box 1 is opened as far as possible and in this position is held by the magnets 26.
In this fully opened state, the presentation plate 9 covers the open side 5 of the two box halves 2 at least partially.
It is clear that in order to present the jewelry 4, the jewelry box 1 does not have to be fully opened as far as the position of Fig. 6, but that it is not excluded to present the jewelry 4 in a partially opened position of the jewelry box 1, for example in the intermediate position as shown in figure 4, wherein also in this case the piece of jewelry 4 is presented in a stylish way.
If desired, the opening angle A over which the jewelry box 1 is opened can be limited, for example by making the slack connections 21 shorter than in the example shown, wherein if the maximum opening would correspond, for example, to the situation of Fig. 3, it will be ensured that the slack connections 21 are tensioned in this situation.
It is clear that other elements, such as locks or the like, can be used instead of the magnets (24, 26) to hold the jewelry box 1 in the fully closed or fully open position, respectively.
Preferably, leather is used for the outer covering 8 and the inside 29 of the jewelry box 1 and the presentation plate 9 are covered with velvet or another suitable material.
Although in the figures the hinge 7 of the two box halves 2 is formed by the outer covering 8, it is not excluded that other types of hinges are used.
In another embodiment of this jewelry box 1, the foldable strip 15 connecting the underside 12 of the presentation plate 9 to each box half 2 can be provided with only one fold line 16.
In an alternative embodiment of this jewelry box 1, the crease line (s) 16 in the foldable strip 15 can be replaced by crease line (s) or perforation line (s).
Figures 7 and 8 show an alternative embodiment of a jewelry box 1 in the fully opened state.
In this embodiment, the presentation plate 9 is provided on its underside 12 with a central groove 30 which runs the entire length of the underside 12.
This groove 30 can have upright walls 31 or have a conical shape, the width of the groove 30 becoming smaller as a function of the depth. The width of the base 32 of this groove 30 is such that in the fully opened condition the presentation plate 9 with its groove 30 grips over the hinged edges 28 of the box halves 2, as shown in Figure 7.
In this way it is also achieved that the presentation plate 9 in the open condition of the jewelry box 1 falls slightly deeper than the non-hinged edges 25 of the box halves 2.
In this embodiment, no connection is provided between the presentation plate 9 and the connecting walls 13 of the box halves.
Further, in this embodiment, the non-hinged edges of each box half 2 are provided with an inwardly facing collar 33 extending against or substantially against the edges 20 of the presentation plate 9, such that the opening 5 between the walls 23 of the jewelry box 1 and the presentation plate 9 is completely covered when the jewelry box 1 is fully opened.
The distance between the two opposite collars 33, which are parallel to the hinge 7, is smaller than the width of the underside 12 of the p-resolution plate 9.
The length of the underside 12 of the presentation plate 9, measured according to the direction of the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1, is equal to or smaller than the distance between the opposite collars 33 which are perpendicular to the direction of the hinge 7 of the jewelry box 1.
The presentation plate 9 remains stable in this position because the presentation plate 9 is clamped at its conical edges 20 under the collars 33 along the non-hinged edges 25 and on top of the hingedly connected edges 28.
In this embodiment the means 11 for holding the piece of jewelry 4 in the desired position are formed by a clip under which the piece of jewelry 4 is clamped.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the figures, but a jewelry box according to the invention can be realized in all shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
