Afdekmiddel.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
is.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Covering agent.
This invention relates to a cover means.
In the first place, the invention contemplates a covering means which is optimally suitable for covering surfaces or objects as protection when carrying out painting work or the like, whereby this covering means is suitable for use by professionals and do-it-yourselfers alike. This includes not only painting in or on buildings, but also other painting, such as spraying vehicles.
Secondly, the object of the invention is to provide a covering means which can also be used for other purposes, as will be further apparent from the description.
For this purpose the invention relates to a covering means, characterized in that it consists of a foil which is provided on at least one side with an adhesive of so-called repositionable or non-permanent glue. It is clear that this is a film that qualifies as a covering means, in other words not small leaves of a few cm by a few cm, but a film of reasonable dimensions in length and / or width.
It is clear that such a covering means has the advantages that it can be easily applied, and that if it is found to be badly positioned, it can be easily and quickly detached and repositioned. The use of the above-mentioned adhesive also offers the advantage that, on the one hand, good adhesion can be realized and, on the other hand, this
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
adhesion can be broken without leaving traces.
According to the most preferred embodiment, the film is provided with a continuous strip of the above-mentioned adhesive along at least one edge, immediately adjacent to this edge. With this edge, the foil can then easily be positioned along an edge to be taped. Due to the fact that the adhesive extends to the edge of the foil, the foil cannot curl at this edge. Because the adhesive continuously extends along the edge, it is impossible for paint or other products to penetrate behind the foil via this edge.
According to a special embodiment, the foil has at least along the edge which is opposite to the above-mentioned edge which is provided with adhesive a border which is free of adhesive. More particularly, it is preferred that the foil is provided with adhesive, which may or may not be applied continuously, which is applied exclusively, on the one hand, over a limited width near a longitudinal edge, and immediately next to this edge, and on the other, over a limited width along the opposite edge, but at a distance from it.
As a result, the foil can be positioned at both the top and bottom, but several of these foil parts can also be overlapped, whereby it is possible to apply the part to be overlapped after the overlapping part has already been placed.
With an understanding of better demonstrating the features of the invention, some preferred embodiments are described below, as examples without any limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
figure 1 shows a covering means according to the invention; figure 2 represents a part of the cover means of figure 1 on a strongly enlarging scale; figure 3 schematically represents an application of the cover means of figure 1; figure 4 represents a variant of the invention; figure 5 schematically represents how the covering means of figure 4 can be used; figures 6 to 10 represent five variants of the invention.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the covering means 1 according to the invention mainly consists of a foil 2, more particularly of reasonable dimensions, which is provided on at least one side 3, in the example shown the rear side, with an adhesive 4 of so-called repositionable or non-permanent glue.
As shown, the foil 2 can be in the form of a preferably rectangular blade.
In this as well as in the embodiments described below, the foil 2 preferably consists of paper. In certain applications it is desirable for the foil 2 to be liquid-resistant, in other words not to let any liquid through or very difficult to let liquid through, for instance in order to prevent paint from getting through the foil during painting work. In the case of paper, it is therefore preferable that, as shown in figure 2, it is provided on at least one side, but preferably on both sides, respectively 3 and 5, with a liquid-resistant coating 6, such as for example silicone is applied on the outside, or with which the film is soaked
EMI3.1
is.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
According to the invention, the foil 2 can also consist of other materials, such as for instance plastic.
However, paper, which may or may not be silicone-coated, has the advantage that it is easier to tear to size than plastic.
The aforementioned adhesive 4 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive, of the type or of the same type as the adhesive used for the adhesive note papers produced by the
EMI4.1
American company "3M" can be commercialized under the brand name. This glue is applied to the foil "Post-it". It has the property that it sticks to the foil 2, even after the covering agent 1 has been loosened from a surface.
The glue can consist of a water-based cold glue.
The adhesive 4 is preferably applied locally, in other words it only covers a part of the foil 2. This prevents excessive adhesion and the covering means 1 becoming difficult to handle.
Adhesive 4 is preferably provided along the edge 7 of at least one longitudinal side, immediately next to this edge 7. The adhesive 4 applied along this edge 7 is preferably applied continuously along it, for example in the form of a strip 8.
The adhesive 4 applied along the above-mentioned edge 7 preferably extends only over a small width B1 which is less than 1/10 of the total width B2 of the film 2.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It is noted that foil 2 in the embodiment of figure 1, with the exception of the amount of adhesive 4 which is in the vicinity of the edge 7, i.e. the strip 8, is free of adhesive.
Figure 3 schematically shows an application of the covering means 1 of Figure 1. Here, the covering means 1 covers a part of a wall 9 or the like to be painted.
Because the adhesive 4 is applied immediately next to the edge 7, the curling of the foil 2 on this edge 7 is excluded. Moreover, because the adhesive 4 is in the form of a continuous strip 8, it is excluded that paint 10 can penetrate between the wall 9 and the foil 2. Due to the fact that the foil 2 does not contain any adhesive outside the strip 8, it remains easy to handle.
The latter does not exclude, however, that the film 2 can be provided with locally applied adhesive 4 instead of only next to the edge 7, also over the further surface, whether or not completely spread over this surface.
For example, figure 4 shows an embodiment with a strip of adhesive 8 as mentioned above and furthermore a second strip of adhesive 11 which is applied over a limited width B3 along the second longitudinal edge, more particularly the edge 12, but at a distance D from it. The border 13, at the width of the distance D, is free of adhesive.
The fact that adhesive is also present near the edge 12 has the advantage that the foil 2 cannot blow up after application as shown in figure 5. The free edge 13 allows an overlap, whereby the edge 13 of an already attached foil part as shown in figure 5 can be bent upwards and a second foil part
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
can be partially attached under the first, without having to loosen the adhesive joints of the first.
According to the embodiment of figure 6, the foil 2 is formed in the form of a rolled strip, parts of the desired length of which can be torn or cut off. In case the adhesive 4 is applied in the form of strips, for example 8 and 11, these strips will extend in the longitudinal direction of the foil 2.
Figure 7 shows a variant in which tear lines 14 are arranged in the foil 2, for example in the form of perforations. The foil can be wound on a handy roll holder 15.
The foil 2 can optionally be provided over the almost complete surface of a side with adhesive 4 in the form of a pattern, whether or not combined with strips 8 and / or 11 and / or with a free border 13.
Examples are shown in Figures 8 to 10.
The covering means 1 preferably has one or the combination of two or more of the following four dimension boundaries: a minimum length L of 50 cm, in order to arrive at a practically favorable length; a maximum length of 10 meters, this in the case of a rolled-up film 2, so that the roll would remain manageable; a minimum width B2 of 10 cm, in order to achieve a width that is favorable in practice; and a maximum width B2 of 60 cm, to maintain a product that is easy to handle. However, other dimensions are not excluded.
The foil 2 of the covering means 1 can be designed as a publicity carrier, with at least one side as
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
advertising side functions, and where the adhesive is applied to the back thereof. For example, in the embodiment of figure 2, the side 5 can be printed with publicity 16.
According to a variant, the adhesive can be applied on the advertising side. This makes the covering means particularly suitable for masking display windows while renewing a display window. After all, the publicity of the foil glued to the inside becomes legible on the street side.
The covering means 1 can only be used as a publicity carrier and does not necessarily have to fulfill a screening function.
Other applications are also possible. For example, the covering agent can also be used as self-adhesive packaging foil.
The present invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiments described in the figures, but such cover means can be realized in various shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
