I
Figure 9 is a front perspective view of the assembled swing lid cupboard and cupboard door mounted waste bin of the invention Figure 10 is a rear perspective view of the assembly of Figure 9.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown in Figures 1 and 2 a swing lid-type rubbish bin removably mounted upon, (referring to Figures 3 and 4) a cupboard-mountable and bin attachment and detachment supporting plate 11 is adapted to be fixed to the rear surface of a hinged door (not shown) and this plate and the bin 10 detachably placed upon it is movable with that is to say moves in and out with the door of a bathroom cupboard, cabinet, vanity unit or the like.
The bin 10 is designed to be fitted with a hinged swing lid 12 (refer to Figures 8 and 9) which swings up and open when a bathroom cabinet door is swung open and then swings down and closed when the docr is swung closed.
The mechanism by which this up and down swinging 20 movement of the lid in synchronization with in and out movements of the door is accomplished is an operating arrangement of a lid-actuating cord 13 (shown in Figures 9 and 10) having its upper end attached to the back edge of the lid and its lower end 13a secured within a hinged cord-clamping oyster-shell like bracket 14 fixed by screws passed through screw-mounting holes 15 and 16 in a hollow base portion 14c to a side wall of the cupboard at a level adjacent the bottom of the bin 10. Referring again to the clamping of the cord in the bracket 14, this bracket is formed of plastic and has a flap portion 14a attached by an integral plastic hinge 14b to a base fixture block portion 14c; halves of a cord-receiving slot 17 are formed in both portions and the cord is laid within the base slot portion and clamped within the folded over bracket portions by means of a threaded bolt passed through the hole 18 in the flap portion the bolt having a hexa head captive within correspondingly-shaped recess 19. The lid-actuating cord 13 has its upper end 13b clamped to the lid by a screw 20 within a clamping bracket 21 formed on the rear or inner edge 12a of the lid 12 after passing the cord around a cord guide channel 22 on the bin attachment plate 11. There are side entry bottom slots 22a, and 22b and a top entry slot 22c in the plate 11 for the cord 13. It will be noted that there are two possible alternative cord guide paths within the guide channel formed on the plate which has a downwardly and outwardly curved portion and a straight vertical central portion this is to enable .I 20 left-hand or right-hand door swing operation. This plate 11 has integrally-formed thereon a pair of lidmounting hinge brackets 23, 24 which are curved out of the plane of the plate and project upwardly from the top edge and the lid 12 is pivotally connected to these brackets by plastic pins 25, 26 passed through sleeves 27, 28 moulded into the top portion of the plate brackets 23, 24 and through lid brackets 23a and 24a..
This plate 11 is also provided with two pairs of moulded -in fixing slots extending therethrough and which I--rI -7comprise two vertical slots 29, 30 moulded into its upper region and two horizontal slots 31, 32 moulded into its lower region for adjustably fixing the plate 11 to the rear of a door to which the plate 11 is fixed.
The cord 13 is secured by a screw 33 to the lid 12 between a pair of plates 34, 35 which are integrally formed on the rear edge of the lid 12.
The rear face of the bin 10 is provided with moulded-in hooks 36, 37 for hanging it on or removing it from the plate 11 (and thus on the cabinet door) by means of the pair of holes 38, 39 formed in the upper region of the plate 11. It will be noted that in this arrangement the bin is detachable separately from the lid which stays on the mounting plate. The flat rear surface portions 40, 41 of the plate 11 is preferably provided with pads of double-sided adhesive for fixture of the plate to the rear surface of a cupboard or o o cabiner door instead of or in addition to screws.
Before installation in a cupboard or cabinet 20 unit the lid is first mounted on the plate 11 as a unit and the top outer end of the cord is secured to the clamping means on the back edge of the lid of the lid.
The plate is screwed to the rear surface of the door of the cabinet or cupboard after placing it on the door and stencilling the position of the screw holes for power screwing in self tapping screws or the like and the cord is placed within the guide channel of the plate and the free end extended back within the cupboard or cabinet and alongside the surface of one side wall and for a I I distance suitable for clamping within the oyster shell bracket when it is installed on the wall. A suitaole position for this bracket is found and it is installed by power screwing in screws through the bracket boles ii the base plate portion of the bracket while the flap is opened out. After this the head end of a bolt is placed within the recess, the cord is placed within the groove and the flap closed on the cord and a nut tightened on the bolt in stages while the cord slides in and out during opening and closing the door and adjusting the effective length of the cord by sliding it to •and fro within the bracket until the lid opens and closes adequately to enable the bin to be taken out and then replaced upon the plate. The cord or cable is round monofilament suitable grade of synthetic polymeric material of circular cross-section and of sufficient thickness and rigidity to be able to slide to and fro within the guide slot to move the lid up and down but is sufficiently flexible to curve in an arcuate path 20 between the door-mounting plate and the wall-mounting bracket.
