Abstract
Up Plantae: For Raising Plants Vertically - (Also known as a Moss Pole; Growing Pole)
Abstract
The 'Up Plantae' is a new and distinct design, created by a Rare Plant Collector that had been
searching for a solution to grow larger, faster, plants effectively. After frustration with the regular
means to 'Air-Layer'the plants, struggle to sufficiently sustain a moist 'Moss Pole', needing a
strong and solid support that can standalone on it's own, as well as having concerns of root rot
(from over condensation) and circling roots, the creative thinking brought the 'Up Plantae'
innovation to light.
Every plant is unique, and every person is subject to different circumstances, so the 'Up
Plantae' provides a customisable and adjustable solution to the above situations. From being
able to adjust the height and width of the growing pole to match with the stage of the plant's
growth, aswell as the choice of growing media by the user, this product aims to suit a Novice to
Advanced Plant Enthusiast.

[Design] IP Right Number: 202015202 Submitted by: Raised Vertical
Background of the Invention: The 'Up Plantae' endeavours to be the solution for consumers, such as Rare Plant Collectors, that are searching for'a standalone support system/framework that can connect and creates a sufficient aerated growing space for raising plants vertically.'
Previous to this, the only available options included the 'Standard Moss Pole', 'Plant Trainer Trellis', 'Vertical Grow Walls', and DIY Variants that utilise mesh, pvc pipe, and plastic sheeting.
Problems/ Issues Identified in prior designs:
" Standard Moss Pole: Hard to keep moist, not enough room for plant roots to grow • Plant Trainer Trellis: Only provides a support framework • Vertical Grow Walls: Often too large. Needs to be affixed to a Wall or Fence. • 'Propstick by Grow Vertical': Not compatible for connecting poles together, requires additional holes to be drilled in the pot for stability. (The 'Up Plantae' product, sets to innovate, on this existing product).
Brief Summary of the Invention: A sturdy and re-usable'Moss Pole' alternative. The 'Up Plantae' design provides invaluable aeration and the flexibility to connect, to create a sufficient growing space. Additionally, the consumer can choose to fill with a growing medium of choice, so with the additional roots able to uptake nutrients and water, it leads to faster growth and healthier plants that are raised vertically to their full potential.
Detailed Description of the Invention:
How to Assemble the Invention: Step 1. Thread the 'Plastic Chain Fixers/Reusable Zip Ties' half-way through the'Plastic Sheet with Perforations'. Step 2. Place the"Plastic Mesh' on-top of 'plastic sheet with perforations', making sure that it aligns at the tip of the pole, then use the 'plastic chain fixers/reusable zip ties'to secure it in place by threading it through, and locking it in place. Step 3. Tie the intended plant to the 'Up Plantae', making sure that any roots present are guided into the Mesh Material. Step 4. Position the 'Up Plantae' with the attached plant inside the pot. Step 5. Pack the growing medium into the pot, making sure to reach behind the 'Up Plantae' grow pole, to form a solid base. Step 6. Fill up the'Up Plantae'with the growing medium (e.g. Sphagnum Moss)
Explanation of Invention Components:
The 'Up Plantae' uses a 'Plastic Sheet with Perforations' (holes) as the backing material. It's unique purpose is to: 1. Allow aeration for plant roots 2. Form a wall that eliminates root circling by: guiding roots towards an air hole, which air-prunes the roots by drying the tip. 3. Encourage the repeated process of air pruning, that in turn develop more roots branching, and growing outward from the main stem 4. Contain the growing media, in conjunction with the'Mesh Material' and 'Plastic Chain Fixers/Reusable Zip Ties. 5. Position the 'Up Plantae' up-right, as the cone perforations, once filled around, creates a firm and solid base within the growing media in the pot. 6. Allow the'Up Plantae'to be extendable to form a larger grow pole, by aligning the holes, and securing with the'Plastic Chain Fixers/Reusable Zip Ties.'
The 'Up Plantae' uses the 'Mesh Material'. It is made of either plastic or metal, with the purpose to: 1. Contain the growing media, in conjunction with the 'Plastic Sheet with Perforations' and 'Plastic Chain Fixers/Reusable Zip Ties.
2. Act as a surface to which the plant can lean on, and a place for the roots to grow through
The 'Up Plantae' 'Plastic Chain Fixers/Zip Ties. As it is adjustable and reusable, it's main purpose it to: 1. Allow the user to connect, release, and reconnect the 'Mesh Material'to the 'Plastic Sheet with Perforations' without the need of having to replace or cut any wires or equivalent.
Claims (1)
- Editorial Note 2020102650 There is only one page of the claimUp Plantae: For Raising Plants Vertically - (Also known as a Moss Pole; Growing Pole)Claims The'Up Plantae' is an innovation on the traditionally available "Moss Pole" and an improvement on the recent DIY equivalents.Taking inspiration from the'Air-Pots - Air-Pruning Pot', and combining the idea with the'Grow Vertical - Propstick', it has led to the creation of the 'Up Plantae'.Compared to the'Standard Moss Pole', 'Plant Trainer Trellis'which provide minimal or no moisture to the Plant's Roots, and mainly act as a support framework. The'Up Plantae' allows the user to choose their preferred growing medium, and allows the plant's roots to absorb in extra nutrients and water, allowing for faster growth. With 'Vertical Grow Walls', they are often too large, and require a Wall or Fence to be installed upon. The'Up Plantae'works well as a standalone growing pole, that does not require any additional supports to stay up-right and function. This has also been noted as one of disadvantages of the 'Grow Vertical - Propstick'which may require drilling a hole into the pot, and tying it.At an exception of the 'Standard Moss Pole', which do have connectable designs, the other solutions are normally at a permanently fixed size, and are not compatible or capable of connecting or adjoining parts, to create a taller, vertical grow space, which consumers may want and need, as Plants do often outgrow their "Moss Poles".Lastly, aeration and root circling is another factor affecting plant growth. The 'Grow Vertical Propstick has a flat backing with no implements for air or solutions to prevent roots from becoming 'root bound'. The 'Up Plantae' however tackles these issues, as the cone perforations (holes), guide the plants outwards, towards the air hole, air-pruning it, to prevent root circling. The key points of the 'Up Plantae' are: - It is completely re-usable - Allows the user to choose and use a growing media of choice - Can be used as a standalone product, without the need of extra supports - Allows the user to adjust the sizing (to fit the pot or to increase the height through connecting poles together) - Benefits the plant in multiple ways: 1. Air pruning the roots to prevent root circling 2. Faster plant growth, as the roots are able to absorb in additional nutrients and waterEditorial Note 2020102650 There is only twelve pages of the drawing
