Description

REVERSIBLE-CLUTCH MORTICE LOCK
Field of the invention The present disclosure relates to a reversible-clutch mortice lock, which allows the operation of the lock to be changed quickly and simply, such that the handle on the outer side behaves like the one on the inner side and vice versa. The lock of the disclosure is applicable in the locksmithing industry, specifically in locks for security areas or doors with access control.
Background Currently, mortice locks, of the type used to allow only authorised persons to pass, have a clutch mechanism, such that in a disengaged position the handle of the lock moves without actuating the latch (and therefore unable to open the door); meanwhile when it is in an engaged position (because the code, key or other system has been introduced actuating the clutch), the handle is able to be rotated, moving the latch and therefore opening the door. Furthermore, it must be taken into account that the operation of the handle depends on the position thereof with respect to the inside of the room. O In other words, the handle on the outer side of the door (meaning the one that would be out in the hallway or street) operates such that said handle is always disengaged (therefore it does not actuate the latch when rotated) and only when the correct key (code, card, etc.) is introduced will it be engaged and when the handle is rotated, the latch will be actuated. Meanwhile, if the handle is on the inner side of the room, the operation thereof is such that when it is rotated it always actuates the latch, in order to enable the exit from the room without having to introduce any keys (for example in hotels). Depending on whether the door opens to the right or to the left, the operation of the handles is inverted. Therefore, in order to install a series of locks in a building, or it is necessary to have two types of locks (some which open to the right and others which open to the left, fulfilling both of the operational natures described in the two previous paragraphs) which generates supply errors and an increase in costs (due to having to provide a certain number of both locks for the building wherein they will be installed) or to have a system which enables the internal operation of the lock to be altered. Several documents are known which disclose locks similar to the lock of the invention. Among the known documents, it is worth mentioning document US2010/0263418A1 which discloses a mortice lock with a reversible clutch comprising a part which enables a quick and simple manner of making the outer handle behave as an inner handle and vice versa, simply by installing said concentric-shaped part in the parts on the inside of the lock or on the outside, which are in turn joined to the shafts of the handles, respectively. Document US2003/0127864A1 is also known which relates to a mortice lock which can be locked or unlocked thanks to an internal clutch-locking mechanism. The locking mechanism includes a housing, a latch which extends from the housing and it has an extended position and a retracted position. The lock further includes a pushing element for pushing the latch towards the extended position. The locking mechanism includes means for transferring the movement from the latch to the retracted position. The applicant also knows document ES2350218A1, which discloses a clutch device in electric mortice locks with a panic function, meaning one which can always be opened from the inner side, and from the outer side it requires some type of clutch which enables it to be opened. In this document, the clutch device does not offer the possibility of the lock being reversible, which differentiates said lock from the lock of the invention. Document ES2326482T3 is also known which discloses a lock with ?5 controllable handle actuation. The lock of this document tries to provide a solution which offers a wide range of possibilities for installing and using the door lock such that the lock can always be used from one side of the door and the use from the other side is selectively controlled. In this document, the casing of the lock, when installed in the door, should be convertible such that it can be used in the door regardless of the direction in which the door is to be rotated. Additionally, in this lock the changes made in the casing can, by means of the installation arrangement, be performed as simply and easily as possible without opening the lock casing.
Finally, the applicant also knows document ES2498892B2 which discloses a tilt clutch lock having a spring with elastic accumulation which enables the change to be made so that the outer handle behaves like the inner handle and vice versa. None of the documents known to the applicant offers security guarantees against unwanted manipulation of the lock such as those offered by the lock disclosed in this document.
Summary An aspect of the disclosure is a reversible-clutch mortice lock comprising a O central follower responsible for actuating a latch, the central follower comprising a central hole and two lateral housings, a first lateral follower, comprising a peripheral opening, a central quadrangular hole, two through holes and at least one first cylindrical projection around the central quadrangular hole, wherein the first cylindrical projection of the first lateral follower is introduced into the central hole of the central follower, a second lateral follower, comprising a peripheral opening, central quadrangular hole, two through holes and at least one first cylindrical projection around the central quadrangular hole, wherein the first cylindrical projection of the second lateral follower is inserted into the central hole of the central follower on a side opposite the first lateral follower, wherein it additionally comprises: a platen located in the central hole of the central follower between the two lateral followers, such that the platen divides the central hole of the central follower into two halves separated by the platen, and such that the platen limits the central hole to two curved holes, a pin comprising a web and two flanges located in the lateral housings of the central follower, two points inserted into springs, the points being fastened at ?5 the ends of the flanges of the pin, and located in the lateral housings of the central follower, and a cam comprising a shaft, a protrusion, a hook-shaped end configured to be attached to the web of the pin and another articulated end, the cam being able to rotate around the articulated end; wherein, by rotating the cam around the articulated end, the end of the cam attached to the web of the pin is configured to push said pin towards the inside of the central follower, such that the flanges of the pin are configured to push the points.
The disclosure described discloses a reversible-clutch mortice lock comprising a central follower, a first lateral follower introduced into the central follower on one side of the central follower and a second lateral follower introduced into the central follower on a side opposite the first lateral follower. The central follower is configured to operate a latch of the lock of the disclosure and comprises a central hole and two lateral housings. The first lateral follower comprises a peripheral opening, a central quadrangular hole, two through holes and at least one first cylindrical projection around the central quadrangular hole, such that the first lateral follower is introduced by means of the first cylindrical projection into the central hole of the central follower. The second lateral follower comprises a peripheral opening, a central quadrangular hole, two through holes and at least one first cylindrical projection around the central quadrangular hole, such that the second lateral follower is inserted by means of the first cylindrical projection into the central hole of the central follower on a side opposite the first lateral follower. Additionally, the reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure comprises a platen located in the central hole of the central follower between the two lateral followers such that the platen limits the central hole of the central follower to two curved holes centred in the central hole of the central follower and, likewise, it divides the central hole into two halves separated by the platen and prevents the shafts of the handles from actuating on the side opposite the one wherein they are installed. The lock of the disclosure also comprises a pin which in turn comprises a web and two flanges located in the lateral housings of the central follower. Two points inserted into springs are located in the lateral housings of the ?5 central follower, the points being fastened to the ends of the flanges of the pin. The reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure also comprises a cam which in turn comprises a shaft, a protrusion, a hook-shaped end joined to the web of the pin and another articulated end, the cam being able to rotate around the articulated end. The reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure comprises a handling selector piece configured to choose the side on which the lock can be opened without needing the actuation of the other components thereof. The handling-selector piece comprises two appendages which are inserted into the through holes of one of the lateral followers and into the curved holes formed by the platen introduced into the central hole of the central follower. The lock of the disclosure has the ability to be able to change the handling direction without needing any tools and simply by inserting the handling-selector piece into one of the lateral followers. Furthermore, the components of the lock configure a parallel double-clutch system which is selectively actuated according to the chosen handling direction, or in both, if the handling-selector is not installed, by controlling the access in both directions, and it has a security system against attacks and external manipulations. The lateral followers additionally comprise second cylindrical projections opposite the first cylindrical projections configured to allow the guiding and rotation of the lateral followers with respect to an outer casing. The reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure additionally comprises: - a lever which in turn comprises a toothed end, a protuberance and another articulated end, the lever being able to rotate around the articulated end, - a torsion spring inserted into the shaft of the cam, with one end configured to rest on the protrusion of the cam and another end configured to rest on the protuberance of the lever. O In the reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure, the first lateral follower and the second lateral follower comprise a peripheral projection, such that the peripheral projections make contact with one end of a spring guide which is resting on the opposite end on a fastened support, using compression springs to equip the lateral followers with the recovery necessary to return them to the initial position ?5 thereof in case they rotate, this method can be performed by any system for elastic compression, traction, torsion or platen spring commonly used in locksmithing. In order to securely fasten the points to the pin and so that they cannot become disconnected, the flanges of the pin comprise recesses at the ends and the points comprise projections complementary to the recesses of the flanges of the pin. In turn, the pin is held by the web to the hook-shaped end of the cam, tensioning the entire assembly due to the effect of the torsion spring, such that the unwanted manipulation of the points in order to make the lock of the disclosure operate is extremely difficult given the immovable connection of the points, pin and cam. In the reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure, the handling-selector piece comprises a fastening stop configured to be introduced into a channel of the central quadrangular hole of one of the lateral followers which prevents the movement thereof and subsequent disconnection from the central follower, once the shafts of the handles have been fastened. This disconnection of the appendages implies a serious failure since one cannot leave the room by operating the inner handle. The platen of the lock of the disclosure comprises peripheral tabs located in two peripheral recesses of the central hole of the central follower, such that the position of the platen in the quadrangular central hole cannot be incorrect. The reversible-clutch mortice lock comprises an outer housing which offers protection to the internal components of the lock and in turn offers support points so that the articulated ends of some of the components of the lock can rest and rotate. The reversible-clutch mortice lock of the disclosure comprises a drive shaft connected at one end to a second worm drive in an output shaft of the reducer motor and comprising a first worm drive at another end, such that the first worm drive is connected to the toothed end of the lever of the lock. The connection described in the previous paragraph, wherein the drive shaft is O moved by a motor which is connected to the toothed end of the lever of the lock, makes it so said movement can be transmitted or accumulated through the torsion spring, depending on the position of the lateral followers.

Detailed Description As indicated previously, and as seen in the figures, an aspect of the disclosure is a reversible-clutch mortice lock, which offers security features focused on ?5 preventing unauthorised manipulation of the lock such that it can prevent the elements making it up from being engaged, for example by applying a vibration to the lock. Furthermore, the lock of the disclosure allows the operation of the lock to be changed quickly and easily, such that the operation of the handle on the inner side and the outer side can be exchanged and the same lock can be used for doors which open towards one side (right) and doors which open towards the opposite side (left). The lock of the disclosure comprises a plurality of components that will be described below separately, also showing how they interact with one another for the correct operation of the lock. Furthermore, the lock of the disclosure comprises an outer casing (1) which houses the components of the lock and offers a surface to which some components of the lock are at least partially fastened. The lock of the disclosure comprises a central follower (2) which is responsible for actuating the latch (3) of the lock; the central follower (2) is symmetrical with respect to a plane passing through the centre thereof, and comprises a central hole (4) parallel to the plane of symmetry, and two lateral housings (5) on the sides of the plane of symmetry. In the central hole (4) of the central follower (2), the lock of the disclosure has a platen (7) that configures two curved holes (8) inside the central hole (4) and also divides the central hole into two halves on the sides of the platen (7) itself. Furthermore, the lock of the disclosure comprises a first lateral follower (9) and a second lateral follower (10) placed in the central hole (4) of the central follower (2) on the sides of the platen (7). Each lateral follower (9, 10) comprises: - a peripheral opening (11), - a peripheral projection (12), - a central quadrangular hole (13) in which are introduced the shafts of the handles (19) for the door in which the lock is placed, - two through holes (14), - first cylindrical projections (6) around the central quadrangular hole (13) in the contact face with the platen (7), which facilitate the positioning and rotation of the central follower (2) on the lateral followers (9, 10), and - second cylindrical projections (15) opposite the first cylindrical projections (6), which make the guiding and rotation of the lateral followers (9, 10) possible with respect to the outer casing (1) existing on both sides. The platen (7) has a thickness less than the thickness of the central hole (4) of the central follower (2), for which reason it creates spaces on both sides of said platen (7), such that, as explained previously, in those spaces the first cylindrical projections (6) of the lateral followers (9, 10) are introduced which ensures the rotation of the lateral followers (9, 10) on the central follower (2).
The platen (7) comprises peripheral tabs (46) located in two peripheral recesses (47) of the central hole (4) of the central follower (2), ensuring, by means of this configuration, the position thereof inside the central hole (4) of the central follower (2). The lock of the disclosure can incorporate a handling-selector piece (16), depending on whether it is inserted into a lateral follower (9) or into another lateral follower (10), causes the side of the lock wherein said handling-selector piece (16) is introduced to be the side of the lock of the disclosure that will operate as a handle which always activates the latch (3) of the lock, without having to introduce a code, key, etc. which activates a motor (38) engaging the system, for example in order to leave a hotel room. In order to fasten the handling-selector piece (16) into one of the lateral followers (9, 10), the handling-selector piece (16) comprises two appendages (17) which are inserted into the through holes (14) of one of the lateral followers (9, 10) and which are also introduced into the curved holes (8) formed by the platen (7) in the central hole (4) of the central follower (2), thus the rotation of a handle shaft (19) moves the central follower (2) thanks to the pushing of the appendages (17) on the central follower (2) and with it the latch (3) of the lock of the disclosure. Furthermore, the handling-selector piece (16) comprises a fastening stop (18) located in a channel (20) of the central quadrangular hole (13) of one of the lateral followers (9, 10). The functional nature of the fastening stop (18) is to ensure that the appendages (17) stay inserted inside the curved holes (8). Such that when the shaft of the handle (19) is rotated, the central follower (2) is rotated by means of the pulling force of the appendages (17). This functional nature is achieved because the shaft of the handle (19) secures said fastening stop (18), thus guaranteeing the position of the appendages (17). Thus, depending on where the handling-selector piece (16) is installed, the operation of the lock will be on one side (right) or on the other (left). In the lock of the disclosure it is also possible to do without said handling selector piece (16), such that neither of the two sides of the lock is able to move the latch (3) of the lock without first activating the motor (38) and, in this manner, the two sides of the lock provide a restricted opening of the lock. The lock of the disclosure also comprises a pin (21) which is guided in the central follower (2) by means of two flanges (22) of the pin (21) introduced into the lateral housings (5) of the central follower (2). Apart from the two flanges (22), the pin (21) comprises a web (23) which joins the flanges (22). The lock of the disclosure comprises two points (24), one point (24) inside of each lateral housing (5) of the central follower (2), which are located next to the flanges (22) of the pin (21). The points (24) are introduced into springs (25), which are located inside of each lateral housing (5) resting on an edge (48) of said lateral housings (5), such that the springs (25) abut with said edges (48) of the housings (5). The ends of the flanges (22) of the pin (21) have recesses (45) complementary to protrusions (26) of the ends of the points (24) such that the points (24) stay fastened to the flanges (22) of the pin (21). The lock of the disclosure also comprises a cam (27) with an articulated end (28) and the other end is hook-shaped (29), such that the hook-shaped end (29) is joined to the pin (21), specifically to the web (23) of the pin (21). With this configuration, the cam (27) can rotate around the articulated end (28) and move the pin (21) with the rotation movement thereof. The cam (27) comprises a shaft (30) and a protrusion (31), such that a torsion spring (32) is inserted into the shaft (30), the spring having two ends, one end being configured to make contact with the protrusion (31) of the cam (27) and another end configured to make contact with a protuberance (33) of a lever (34) which is described below. The fastening of the points (24) to the pin (21), with the recesses (45) of the ?5 flanges (22) of the pin (21) in the projections (26) of the points (24), together with the fastening of the hook-shaped end (29) of the cam (27) to the web (23) of the pin (21), it causes the whole assembly to be tensioned due to the effect of the torsion spring (32), such that the unwanted manipulation of the points (24) in order to make the lock of the disclosure operate is extremely difficult given the immovable connection of the points (24), pin (21) and cam (27). The lever (34) of the lock of the disclosure comprises a toothed end (35) and another articulated end (36), such that the lever (34) has the ability to rotate around the articulated end (36). The toothed end (35) of the lever (34) interlocks with a first worm drive (37) which in turn is connected to a motor (38), such that the motor (38) is activated depending on an electronic device which handles the access permissions of the lock of the disclosure. The lock of the disclosure, as mentioned, enables choosing the side of the lock which acts as a handle which always opens the lock and the side of the door which requires permission in order to actuate the components which enable the door to be opened. The operation of the lock of the disclosure, on the side requiring permission in order to actuate the components which allow the door to be opened is as follows: - Once the key, code, etc. is introduced, the motor (38) is activated - the motor (38), by means of the first worm drive (37), acts on the toothed end (35) of the lever (34), such that the lever (34) rotates around the articulated end (36) thereof, - the rotation movement of the lever (34) causes the protuberance (33) of the lever (34) to make contact with the torsion spring (32) at one end, - the torsion spring (32) rotates on the shaft (30) until the end of the torsion spring (32), opposite the one in contact with the protuberance (33) of the lever (34), comes into contact with the protrusion (31) of the cam (27) and pulls said cam (27), by means of the protrusion (31) thereof, and forces it to rotate around the articulated end (28) of the cam (27), - in the rotation of the cam (27), the end (29) of the cam (27) joined to the pin (21) pushes said pin (21) towards the inside of the central follower (2), such that the flanges (22) of the pin (21) push the points (24) coming out of the inside of the springs (25) until each point (24) is introduced into the peripheral opening (11) of the lateral followers (9, 10). With the components of the lock in the position described above (engaged position), the rotation of the shaft of the handle (19) moves the lateral follower (9) by pulling the central follower (2) thanks to the push from the point (24) and moves the latch (3) of the lock. In order for the lateral followers (9, 10) to return to the initial position thereof, the lock of the disclosure comprises a spring guide (39) which rests on lateral springs (40) which in turn rest on a support piece (41) fastened to the outer casing (1) of the lock, such that the spring guide (39) moves pushed by the peripheral projections (12) of the lateral followers (9, 10) (these rotate when the shaft of the handle (19) rotates which activates them), and the lateral springs (40) return the spring guide (39) and the mentioned lateral followers (9, 10) to the initial position, when force ceases to be exerted on the lateral followers (9, 10) as the shaft of the handle (19) is released. Furthermore, with the lock of the disclosure, if there has been no movement of the points (24) (because access was not allowed) and the points (24) remain outside the peripheral openings (11) of the lateral followers (9, 10), the shaft of the outer handle (19) can cause one of the lateral followers (9, 10) to rotate but said lateral follower (9, 10) does not cause the central follower (2) to rotate, therefore the movement of the latch (3) of the lock is not produced. Likewise, the lock of the disclosure has a configuration which enables it to continue operating correctly in abnormal operating situations, for example when the handle is rotated before the motor (38) actuates and moves the rest of the components of the lock. In that position, the peripheral opening (11) of the lateral follower (9, 10) is misaligned with the points (24) and therefore the points (24) cannot access the peripheral opening (11) and allow the rotation of the central follower (2) and consequently the movement of the latch (3). What happens in this situation is that the motor (38) acts on the lever (34), the lever (34) acts on the torsion spring (32) which rotates on itself and when it comes into contact with the protrusion (31) of the cam (27), the spring (32) cannot move the cam (27) since it is locked, given that the points (24) abut against the periphery of the ?5 lateral followers (9, 10) and the pin cannot move. In this situation, the torsion spring is pulled given that one end thereof is locked by the protrusion (31) of the cam (27) and the other end is pushed by the protuberance (33) of the lever (34) accumulating the energy from the motor (38). When the lateral followers (9, 10) align the peripheral openings (11) with the lateral housings (5), the cam (27) is unlocked, since the stop preventing the movement of the points (24) and of the pin (21) is no longer there, and the spring (32) is released from the load to which it was subjected, moving the cam (27) which in turn moves the pin (21) which moves the points (24). The same process occurs in the opposite direction when the closing is produced and the points are retained by the peripheral openings (11) of the lateral followers (9) or (10). The motor (38) is connected by means of an output shaft (42) with a second worm drive (44) to a drive shaft (43), such that the drive shaft (43) comprising the first worm drive (37) at the other end thereof is connected to the toothed end (35) of the lever (34) of the lock by means of said first worm drive (37). The lock of the disclosure offers security features against attempted external manipulations which are provided by the configuration of the components of the very lock and how they are connected to each other. For example, the connection between the points (24) and the flanges (22) of the pin (21) by means of the recesses (45) of the flanges (22) complementary to the projections (26) of the ends of the points (24) prevents the connection between the points (24) and the pin (21) from being lost. It also provides security in the connection between the cam (27) and the pin (21), the hook-shaped end (29) of the cam (27) being what hooks the web (23) of the pin (21), thus preventing the movement of the pin (21) if the cam (27) is not activated. The disclosure should not be limited by the embodiments described herein. A person skilled in the art can develop other embodiments in light of the description made herein. Accordingly, the scope of the disclosure is defined by the following claims. It is to be understood that, if any prior art publication is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the publication forms a part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
